Our performance especially in the 1st half against Redcar Town was poor and after a good early start we gifted them 3 goals and the confidence to play their football. Whilst we limited the score in the second half to 0-1 we didn’t play “our brand” of football but we did compete. After the commanding performance v Redcar Athletic it was disappointing and I think we got carried away with our win (understandable as we haven’t had that many). A derby provides a different mental challenge and we started brightly scoring in the 3rd minute but again we failed to concentrate conceding in the 4th.The rest of the half I thought we edged what was a very scrappy half. With our effort and 2 disallowed goals I thought we should have gone in ahead not 3-1 down , a poor 2nd goal to concede then the referee & assistant failing to see our keeper barged and the dropped ball put into the net. We again worked hard in the 2nd half with neither side showing much quality but competing well. When Lav received a yellow, for arguing about a penalty that he thought he should have had, and then a second yellow with only 15 left on the watch we were left with no option but to change it around a bit and with a strong attacking bench we went for it. The new shape suited us and we finally started to play some controlled football and with 3 minutes to go when a ball dropped 20yrds out to Jow his impressive bicycle kick hit the roof of the net. Winning the ball back quickly and a long ball put Chan through leaving their centre half no option but to drag him down. Matty Murray stepped up to put the free kick from 25-30 yds into the top corner with the last kick of the game. The decisions went against and we need to learn to keep our heads and do what we do best. The game also showed that we can come back from behind, we do have a determination (normally lacking) to win a game and that we really need to concentrate and not concede stupid goals

BLUES!!!!!! A CHARTER STANDARD DEVELOPMENT CLUB

2010 / 2011 The Intermediates founded when former U18 manager and BTJFC Secretary Peter Cooper and John Swanson came together to put together an adult team for the junior section. Both agreed that the Teesside league would be a good challenge and both had the same vision, to have a team where the players from the junior section could stay with the club once they had finished their junior football. The first season proved difficult on many levels; 42 players coming and going, organising a strip and pitches and most significantly the devastating death of Peter in October 2010. Ian Murray then the U18 manager joined the management team. A difficult season saw only 1 win in29 games... but the basis of a squad to go into the next season, and true to the philosophy that Peter had held, the majority had been former Junior players. 2011 / 2012 With a core of lads from the previous season and some of Ian's former U18 lads, the season looked to be full of promise, however the step up for the new lads and trying to gel the squads together saw the season start off where it finished the previous season, winless, however the results were encouraging. Once the team had it's first win under it's belt it went on an unbeaten run of 8 games. With the odd win/draw towards the end of the season...the results did not reflect the performances. The team had now started to develop a style of it's own, playing some attractive football, the highlight of the season had to be away to Northallerton Academy 2-0 down at half time, Town outplayed Northallerton to win 3-2 playing some great football, showing great character and both starting and finishing with10 former Junior players... the foundation well and truly in place. Thanks to the hard work of Ian The team got new strips through a sponsorship agreement with RA DALTON. whose support is still much appreciated. 2012 / 2013 A more settled squad started the season playing a good style of football however a string of long term injuries to key players disrupted the season. Again the squad struggled for points and goals but the last 9 games of the season saw a more settled team start to play the football it promised early on. The highlight being the 2-1 win at Lingdale the first team to defeat champions (1 of only 2 clubs to do it) The season again saw progress both on and off the pitch with the addition to the coaching staff of goalkeeping coach Peter Laverick.

The squad has 25 former junior players out of the 32 signed on continuing the philosophy that the team was set up to fulfil 2013 / 2014 We started the season at a new ground, Northfield sportsdrome and now have the support of the Whitehouse Pub who provide after match refreshments …… Massive thanks !!! Our Football continued to go from the ridiculous to the sublime, some great moves and goals but games where we fell apart in sections of the game and got punished. This will happen with a young team but in the coming season we will look for those players now in their 5th season, even though they are still young, to step up to the plate. The season started off badly with Cooky suffering a double fracture but it did save us 3 points, happily Cooky started training at the end of the season. The emphasis was again on the SQUAD with Muzz starting to work shifts a massive loss for us after his early season form but that is why we needed numbers to turn up to games and training. We did progress off the field and on but again finished bottom ( Billingham Athletic resigning). Lav as leading goal scorer led the line well and finished 2nd highest scorer in Billingham behind Ash Lavan. As a team we need to be more clinical and punish teams mistakes like they punish ours. For the first time we also produced a free match programme and developed to publishing it on-line 2014/2105

A NEW NAME…….. BILLINGHAM FC

Now going into our 5th season we welcome the 3rd group of young lads to come through from the juniors. Many have had a taste over the last couple of seasons on an ad-hoc basis and we will look to integrate them fully into the squad which I expect to be a little smaller this season but also a season wiser. We have introduced Beth Pounder to the management team in the closed season. Beth is a qualified Sports Scientist and will deal with players injuries and rehabilitation. Beth is also a former Billingham Junior Let’s see what this season brings!!!

Introduction I’m excited to be helping out Billingham FC on and off the pitch providing first aid, sports therapy and injury management advice as well as providing rehabilitation programmes for the players. Hamstring Strain Injury Management Firstly, the hamstring muscle is made up of three individual muscles, the semi-membranosus, semi-tendinosus and biceps femoris, any one of these muscles can be affected. A common mechanism of injury for hamstring strains usually Involve sprinting to which the head of the bicep femoris muscle at the lower end of the thigh is strained. There are three grades of hamstring strain based on how severe the injury is: Grade 1: Slight tear to some fibres of the muscle (Tightness in the back of the thigh but can walk normally, they will be aware of some discomfort and will be unable to run at their full speed) Grade 2: Partial tear to the hamstring muscles (The athletes walking gait will be affected, usually with a limp, pain will be present during activity and swelling will also be noticeable) Grade 3: Full rupture of the muscle or severe strain (A tear to half or all of the muscle, the athlete will need crutches, may have severe pain and swelling and weakness in the muscle. Bruising will usually appear 24 hours after the occurrence of the injury) Initial Management: For the first 24 hours the PRICE Protocol should be followed. Protection, rest, ice every hour for 10-15 minutes combined with compression and elevation, this will help reduce pain, swelling and minimise bleeding in the muscle. After the first day Ice should be applied every 2 to 3 hours for 10-15 minutes at a time. Later‌After the Initial management, stretching and strengthening rehabilitation programmes should be followed. Stretching exercises include raising the leg straight above your head and holding for 8 to 10 seconds at a time and performing this 3 times, each time the flexibility of the individual should increase and the leg will go further. Isometric contraction exercises are good for strengthening the hamstrings; this means holding a position for a short period of time, for example holding the lunge position is a perfect example of an isometric contraction to strengthen the hamstrings. Rehabilitation programmes should be made specific to each individual and should be advised by a professional. Beth Pounder (Qualified Graduate Sports Therapist) Email: bethpounder2020@hotmail.com

The juniors have started their pre season training and friendly matches in the last few weeks, it’s great to see the them working hard on their fitness and skills. The TJFA fixtures were announced at our fixtures meetings and the managers and coaches found out what divisions and what teams they will be up against this coming season. The issue of social media was raised at the meeting as the club had attended a workshop on the matter at Durham FA and we are now formatting rules to ensure that our youngsters are not left venerable to the issues that can arise on these networks. Preparations are underway for The club October FUNdraiser watch here or on the website for further details. The monthly E-newsletter is to be reintroduced and the 1st issue is now being compiled… if you’d like a copy Emailed out to you please let us know via the contact tab on the website.
