THE KINGS ARMS The Kings Arms was built in 1936 in a traditional 1930s design. It is situated in large landscaped gardens reflecting the local English countryside. The pub originally opened with the objective of providing a range of amenities for the local community including luncheons and teas together with fine ales and refreshments in pleasant comfortable surroundings. Although the pub may have seen many changes over the years we still offer the same comfort and value for money in our current food and drink offers. Our 2 meals at a set price include classics like hand battered fish and chips, rump steak and chips with all the trimmings and New York style chicken. With Sunday roasts all day every Sunday including a ‘go large’ option and midweek grill and curry nights priced to include a drink, our menu offers all your pub favourites and more. You will also find great deals on lagers, spirits and soft drinks. We offer a high standard of customer service and with 7 TV screens we are also very popular for sporting events. So, whether football, cricket or rugby is your passion, you'll find it all at The Kings Arms. We now boasts a fantastic new pizza oven, it’s now easy to grab a slice of the action whilst saving dough, perfect if you’re looking to feed a hungry group! Available to eat in or take-away, every pizza comes with its own performance, as we cook them right in front of you in our lively open kitchen. Join us for a meal at your local John Barras pub and you’ll be greeted with a warm atmosphere, friendly service and an exciting menu packed full of all your pub favourites. So next time you are in Billingham, and looking for great value food and drink every day of the week, we look forward to seeing you

Ticket are still on sale for our Autumn fund raiser, 30th October at THE SWAN ... A Music and comedy night is fast approaching so get your tickets early from the committee £8 for pie & peas, Music and comedian is an absolute bargain. All funds raised will go towards our end of season presentation day and towards the clubs development funds. Get yourself, Family, Friends and ANYONE else who likes a GREAT night. Fancy dress is optional but there will be prizes for the best overall & team costumes. The significance of the FUNdraisers to the club became apparent at a Parents meeting called by the club on Wednesday night to announce that it expressed an interest in the former campus site on Marsh House Avenue. The 30 acre site, 2 sports halls, 2 gymns and a swimming pool (we won’t be using that). If successful this will help to give the club a base and allow the further expansion of the club. It has been frustrating in the past months to turn kids away because teams are full and our inability to start extra teams because we can’t find them pitches, it’s hoped this site will allow us to take on those extra teams across all age groups. The club has started to put forward ambitious plans to the exec committee to form our business plan. However it will be costly and will require the support of all our kids families and their friends to make it possible. CLUB CASHBACK Shopping on-line? Then you can help the juniors by shopping through our cash back site. This allows you to shop on-line at you favourite stores as normal (paying the same price as normal) BUT the site then gives cash back to the juniors from their marketing budgets... It’s a win, win for you and the club.

2010 / 2011

The Intermediates founded when former U18 manager and BTJFC Secretary Peter Cooper and John Swanson came together to put together an adult team for the junior section. Both agreed that the Teesside league would be a good challenge and both had the same vision, to have a team where the players from the junior section could stay with the club once they had finished their junior football. The first season proved difficult on many levels; 42 players coming and going, organising a strip and pitches and most significantly the devastating death of Peter in October 2010. Ian Murray then the U18 manager joined the management team. A difficult season saw only 1 win in29 games... but the basis of a squad to go into the next season, and true to the philosophy that Peter had held, the majority had been former Junior players. 2011 / 2012 With a core of lads from the previous season and some of Ian's former U18 lads, the season looked to be full of promise, however the step up for the new lads and trying to gel the squads together saw the season start off where it finished the previous season, winless, however the results were encouraging. Once the team had it's first win under it's belt it went on an unbeaten run of 8 games. With the odd win/draw towards the end of the season...the results did not reflect the performances. The team had now started to develop a style of it's own, playing some attractive football, the highlight of the season had to be away to Northallerton Academy 2-0 down at half time, Town outplayed Northallerton to win 3-2 playing some great football, showing great character and both starting and finishing with 10 former Junior players... the foundation well and truly in place. Thanks to the hard work of Ian The team got new strips through a sponsorship agreement with RA DALTON. whose support is still much appreciated.

2012 / 2013

A more settled squad started the season playing a good style of football however a string of long term injuries to key players disrupted the season. Again the squad struggled for points and goals but the last 9 games of the season saw a more settled team start to play the football it promised early on. The highlight being the 2-1 win at Lingdale the first team to defeat champions (1 of only 2 clubs to do it) The season again saw progress both on and off the pitch with the addition to the coaching staff of goalkeeping coach Peter Laverick. The squad has 25 former junior players out of the 32 signed on continuing the philosophy that the team was set up to fulfil 7

2013 / 2014 We started the season at a new ground, Northfield sportsdrome and now have the support of the Whitehouse Pub who provide after match refreshments, Massive thanks !!! Our Football continued to go from the ridiculous to the sublime, some great moves and goals but games where we fell apart in sections of the game and got punished. This will happen with a young team but in the coming season we will look for those players now in their 5th season, even though they are still young, to step up to the plate. The season started off badly with Cooky suffering a double fracture but it did save us 3 points, happily Cooky started training at the end of the season. The emphasis was again on the SQUAD with Muzz starting to work shifts a massive loss for us after his early season form but that is why we needed numbers to turn up to games and training. We did progress off the field and on but again finished bottom ( Billingham Athletic resigning). Lav as leading goal scorer led the line well and finished 2nd highest scorer in Billingham. As a team we need to be more clinical and punish teams mistakes like they punish ours. For the first time we also produced a free match programme and developed to publishing it on-line

2014 / 2105

A NEW NAME‌ BILLINGHAM FC

Now

going into our 5th season we welcomed the 3rd group of young lads to come through from the juniors. Many have had a taste over the last couple of seasons on an ad-hoc basis and we will look to integrate them fully into the squad which I expect to be a little smaller this season but also a season wiser. The season turned out to be more about developments off the field than on. We introduced Beth Pounder to the management team in the closed season. Beth is a qualified Sports Scientist and will deal with players injuries and rehabilitation. Beth is also a former Billingham Junior. We held our 1st Golf day in August and this is now an annual event. We secured funding from the Teesside Philanthropic Society to enable us to buy training/ warm up kit for the whole squad. The press release featured in the Billingham Community News Paper and this led to a further grant from the Billingham Legacy Foundation which has enabled us to buy Rain jackets for the whole squad and 5 sub suits for the lads on the bench match days. Thanks to hard work by Ian Murray we have also retained RA DALTON as a sponsor of a new home kit (in the same style and colours as the juniors) and Klargester as new sponsors of our much needed away kit

On the pitch we continued to try and play a passing game, playing out from the back. After a good pre season we started reasonably well in the league but drawing games we really should have won, these lost points would come back at the end of the season to show in our final position. Our County cup game saw us host Ferryhill and a good performance saw us progress to the 1st round proper for the 1st time (another small landmark) and travel to Murton. A game on reflection we could have won but ended up going down 4-3. The end of the season was scrappy and when the U18’s folded some of the lads joined the squad, maybe a year early having had the past years experience but non the less they were welcomed into the squad.

The MacMillan bowl sees us entertain Staithes Athletic this weekend at Northfield sportsdrome. The last two weeks sum up all that our squad is. Two weeks ago we were at our best with a good solid turn out (not my starting eleven, If I knew what that was). A great performance both on the ball and off the ball. We also showed good character , despite being the better side we conceded, equalised, conceded and equalised. Then I think a bit of self doubt crept in and we conceded 2 goals and then a third to lose 5-2 but for me our best football performance this season and one full of character! Then we play Thornaby Dubliners one of our free games. After the league was forced to restructure I identified teams that we would play twice, “our division” and the rest were about performance and learning, this was one of those games. However you cannot expect a reult when you don’t turn out a team and with no disrespect to Pete (52) our Goalkeeping coach, our 2nd keeper Jamie who both made up our Eleven we were always on the back foot but to go down to 10 men after 25mins and then down to 9 after 75 we were trying to climb Everest wearing skates. We continued to try and play football and in Liam Ferguson on his debut we had a Man of the match performance, unfortunately Liam will no longer be available short– medium term. Off the pitch we have formed another partnership with JAB Memorabilia, a young and upcoming company in a contra deal whereby they will provide us with Memorabilia to raise funds and we will advertise and promote via our rapidly expanding social media presence (focused on national local football clubs & North East businesses) We need to keep pushing on and showing our character in a week that sees Synners fold because of players not turning up!

Hamstring Stretching & Stretcjing Programme (part 2)

Stage 3 Stage 3 is similar to to stage 2 but the aim is to try and get the same range of motion and flexibility in the injured leg as the non-injured leg. Straight leg standing hamstring stretch should be continued as before with 3x10 seconds in the pain free range once or twice a day. Likewise with the bent leg stretch on the back. The athlete is ready to move on when both legs have similar levels of flexibility. Again the purpose of stage 2 is to get a little bit of elasticity to the healing tissue.

Stage 4 Dynamic hamstring stretching Begin gentle dynamic stretching. Dynamic stretching involves gently swinging the leg into a stretched position. Ensure the leg is relaxed at all times and the stretch is not forced. Perform 3 x 10 reps gently swinging the straight leg as high as is comfortable. It may help to put the free hand over the swinging leg as a target and to possibly trick the brain into thinking it is safe to swing the leg.

Active straight leg raise Begin active straight leg raises from lying on the floor. The athlete lifts the injured leg up as far as it will go within the pain free range then lowers again. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps once or twice a day. Try to get a more dynamic movement with this exercise and aim to gradually straighten the knee as flexibility allows.

Cycling upside down Cycling exercise lying on the floor. The athlete lies on their back and supports their hips up in the air with their hands whilst performing a cycling action with the legs. The athlete is ready to move on when stage 4 exercises can be done for 2 days pain free.

The vast majority as expected were read by people in the UK (I’m guessing Teesside) but our programme was also read overseas in 17 other countries. Travel | Lake Minnewaska - Minnewaska State Park, New York - America So during the Summer I went on my travels to America for eleven weeks to work on a summer camp called Camp Echo in the state of New York. Throughout the Summer I met some incredible people, seen some unbelievable sights and had an amazing summer. If you are reading this and want to do something like this I’ll leave a link at the bottom!. So, during my time off from the Camp we (other counsellors) could do trips and one day some of us decided to go to Lake Minnewaska. Without question, the Lake and scenery of this place is simply beautiful in every single way possible. The park itself, opens your eyes to human nature and its beauty. I realised that sometimes we are so fixed on our devices that we don't really appreciate the sights and nature of the planet.

So yeah, this was my first ever travel post. If I'm honest I have never really been interested in travelling. Ok, when I was younger I was fortunate to go on holidays with my parents and friends but I never seen it as 'travelling'. Going to America for those 11 weeks was such an amazing experience, after the 8 weeks work I traveled to NYC, Baltimore, Miami, Orlando, Bahamas and New Jersey. Hopefully, I'll be going back again this Summer after my degree finishes!
