Our Junior teams have just received their fixtures and dividion placements for the coming season, I think the coaches were more excited than the kids We also handed out our new managers bench jackets which will add to to the clubs identity. It’s been a busy summer during the “break”. Since the kids last played a competitive game we held our 2nd FANTASTIC presentation day, honoured by an appearance from Aitor Karanker. We held our annual football festival (in some testing conditions) hosting 48 teams from across the area. Our junior sides have also visited Flamingoland and Holland, they’ve entered tournaments and started their pre season. The committee is already working hard on our 2 annual fundraisers, 1 in October and the other in March and YES we are even working on next years presentation day and Festival. We have also started “Soccer Tots” 9-10 at Billingham South for 3-5 yr olds.. Run by Jonathan Gartland and assisted by Lee Brown and John Swanson BUSY, BUSY, BUSY!!

2010 / 2011
The Intermediates founded when former U18 manager and BTJFC Secretary Peter Cooper and John Swanson came together to put together an adult team for the junior section. Both agreed that the Teesside league would be a good challenge and both had the same vision, to have a team where the players from the junior section could stay with the club once they had finished their junior football. The first season proved difficult on many levels; 42 players coming and going, organising a strip and pitches and most significantly the devastating death of Peter in October 2010. Ian Murray then the U18 manager joined the management team. A difficult season saw only 1 win in29 games... but the basis of a squad to go into the next season, and true to the philosophy that Peter had held, the majority had been former Junior players. 2011 / 2012 With a core of lads from the previous season and some of Ian's former U18 lads, the season looked to be full of promise, however the step up for the new lads and trying to gel the squads together saw the season start off where it finished the previous season, winless, however the results were encouraging. Once the team had it's first win under it's belt it went on an unbeaten run of 8 games. With the odd win/draw towards the end of the season...the results did not reflect the performances. The team had now started to develop a style of it's own, playing some attractive football, the highlight of the season had to be away to Northallerton Academy 2-0 down at half time, Town outplayed Northallerton to win 3-2 playing some great football, showing great character and both starting and finishing with 10 former Junior players... the foundation well and truly in place. Thanks to the hard work of Ian The team got new strips through a sponsorship agreement with RA DALTON. whose support is still much appreciated.
2012 / 2013
A more settled squad started the season playing a good style of football however a string of long term injuries to key players disrupted the season. Again the squad struggled for points and goals but the last 9 games of the season saw a more settled team start to play the football it promised early on. The highlight being the 2-1 win at Lingdale the first team to defeat champions (1 of only 2 clubs to do it) The season again saw progress both on and off the pitch with the addition to the coaching staff of goalkeeping coach Peter Laverick. The squad has 25 former junior players out of the 32 signed on continuing the philosophy that the team was set up to fulfil 7
2013 / 2014 We started the season at a new ground, Northfield sportsdrome and now have the support of the Whitehouse Pub who provide after match refreshments, Massive thanks !!! Our Football continued to go from the ridiculous to the sublime, some great moves and goals but games where we fell apart in sections of the game and got punished. This will happen with a young team but in the coming season we will look for those players now in their 5th season, even though they are still young, to step up to the plate. The season started off badly with Cooky suffering a double fracture but it did save us 3 points, happily Cooky started training at the end of the season. The emphasis was again on the SQUAD with Muzz starting to work shifts a massive loss for us after his early season form but that is why we needed numbers to turn up to games and training. We did progress off the field and on but again finished bottom ( Billingham Athletic resigning). Lav as leading goal scorer led the line well and finished 2nd highest scorer in Billingham. As a team we need to be more clinical and punish teams mistakes like they punish ours. For the first time we also produced a free match programme and developed to publishing it on-line

A NEW NAME‌ BILLINGHAM FC
Now
going into our 5th season we welcomed the 3rd group of young lads to come through from the juniors. Many have had a taste over the last couple of seasons on an ad-hoc basis and we will look to integrate them fully into the squad which I expect to be a little smaller this season but also a season wiser. The season turned out to be more about developments off the field than on. We introduced Beth Pounder to the management team in the closed season. Beth is a qualified Sports Scientist and will deal with players injuries and rehabilitation. Beth is also a former Billingham Junior. We held our 1st Golf day in August and this is now an annual event. We secured funding from the Teesside Philanthropic Society to enable us to buy training/ warm up kit for the whole squad. The press release featured in the Billingham Community News Paper and this led to a further grant from the Billingham Legacy Foundation which has enabled us to buy Rain jackets for the whole squad and 5 sub suits for the lads on the bench match days. Thanks to hard work by Ian Murray we have also retained RA DALTON as a sponsor of a new home kit (in the same style and colours as the juniors) and Klargester as new sponsors of our much needed away kit
On the pitch we continued to try and play a passing game, playing out from the back. After a good pre season we started reasonably well in the league but drawing games we really should have won, these lost points would come back at the end of the season to show in our final position. Our County cup game saw us host Ferryhill and a good performance saw us progress to the 1st round proper for the 1st time (another small landmark) and travel to Murton. A game on reflection we could have won but ended up going down 4-3. The end of the season was scrappy and when the U18’s folded some of the lads joined the squad, maybe a year early having had the past years experience but non the less they were welcomed into the squad.

Our first home game of the new season and the new format league saw us welcome Boro Rangers to the Sportdrome as I said in Saturday’s programme Boro Rangers, one of the better sides last year and as expected the challenge was a hard one. Again only having to chose from made it even harder but with some of the lads playing their 1st game for us this season we stuck to the task in the 1st half and only went behind on 30 minutes from a goal that was at least 5 yards off-side ( I can say that because I was in line and 10 yards away from the assistant) The second half started badly when 6 minutes in we conceded. Our heads visibly dropped but within 10 minutes we rallied and carried on playing some good football. Despite the result this was a good performance against a top side and if we can take this forward then we will do well when the split occurs. A word for Andy Martin in goal, this was possibly the best game he nas had between the stick with a fine 1st half save and a 2nd half penalty stop earning him Man of the Match. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Ian Murray for all his hard work, time, commitment, support and friendship over the last 51/2 yrs. Ian stepped in at a very difficult time for the squad and has been a great source of knowledge and advice. “Having started my 16th season as a manager/coach it is time I took a break so i am going to step away for a while and see how things go. Stick with it, listen to John and Pete and above all turn up on a regular basis and I am sure better results will follow. We worked out the average age of the team today was around 21 so there is loads more to come from you all as a group ”.

A Broken Ankle A broken or fractured ankle is a very common injury and is usually caused by twisting the ankle joint, falling or a sporting related incident. How will I know if my ankle is broke? You will generally see a discolouration, swelling, pain and tenderness to touch the foot. You will be unable to put weight on the foot; if it is broke you may have heard a “crack” when the injury occurred. It may be a funny shape (dislocated) or you may see bone sticking out of the skin known as an open fracture or compound fracture. When actually breaking your ankle, you may experience a state of shock in which you feel faint, dizzy and sick. If the injury isn’t too severe of a break it may be difficult to tell if the ankle is broke particularly on the pitch side, it is always best to get the ankle checked as there is a fine line between diagnosing a broken ankle and a sprained ankle. A sports therapist at the pitch side will always recommend an x-ray with a trip to the local hospital! It’s better to be safe than sorry as misdiagnosed injuries will cause further complications! On the way to the hospital apply ice and elevate the foot, this will help to reduce the pain and swelling. If the ankle is dislocated and broken the paramedic may decide to align the bones back into place as this will help maintain the correct blood flow to the area. On arriving at A & E the consultants will make a decision as to whether they think you require surgery immediately because if there is any problems will the bloody supply to the foot this will cause major problems and complications. Most ankle breaks need to be put into a cast for a period of six weeks to keep the bones in place for healing. For the first few weeks you will be advised not to put any weight on the foot and will be given crutches to help walk for the first few week. In some cases you may need to go back to the consultant or orthopaedic specialist to get regular x rays throughout your healing to check the bones are healing in the correct position. After the bones have heeled you will need physiotherapy, after being in a cast for a long time your ankle joint will need to regain full movement and will need to be strengthened. If you do not go through physiotherapy you will not be able to return to sport at the same level you played at before the ankle brake and you will be at a higher risk of breaking the ankle again due to weakness.

This season following te merging of the two divisions every team will play each other once. The division will then split in two, the bottom 10 will then play in their own division and the top 9 in their’s. The team finishing in the bottom 10 cannot finish higher than 10th despite the number of points they attain by the end of the season.

AMAZING !!! Our Programme averaged 72 reads per issue, even more suprising was where it was read! The vast majority as expected were read by people in the UK (I’m guessing Teesside) but our programme was also read overseas in 17 other countries. The table to the right shows where and how many reads from each country. So Then There Were Four
So with Zayn Malik leaving One Direction there are only Four members of the One Direction group left. It's quite ironic that after the fourth album one member decides to leave the group after a hugely successful period in the groups history. However, every group or artist has a sell by date no matter how long or short the career is. In this case One Direction are going to be established for a long time due to the success they have. 1D are the 1980-90s Take That. Screaming fans, selling out arenas, 5 hunky males that females adore and release a number of hits one after another. The way they are going another call line centre will be created to help the over dramatic fans with the obsession of 1D. So Zayn leaving the group. To be honest, when I found out I wasn't really bothered, Yet my CV still went in anyway. (Simon you know where I am).... But, you know what, I'm happy for Zayn. It's hard for someone to be in the limelight 24/7 and not lead a normal life. He just wanted to be happy and do his own things. To be honest If I was ever famous I'd be exactly the same. I like to keep myself to myself and I would feel uncomfortable in his situation. There is pro's of their lifestyle, Girls left right and centre, free drinks and having everything you desire. But, in the end it doesn't always make you happy. However, Zayn HAS been doing his own things! As of yesterday, Naughty Boy ( a Producer) released a demo track of Zayn singing his own track "I Won't Mind" The track is very laid back, chilled and unusual for a former Directioner! Personally, I'm a fan of the track
