MADHATTER’S

-Premiuim tea and chocolate shop SEMESTER : 7th SUBJECT : Interior Design Location :HSR Layout ,Bangalore

The design brief was to create an interior design for a retail service space of your choice with a small service component. The main idea was to design a exclusive tea and chocolate store with a tasting component which would enhance the shopping experience and could also attract new customers . The design intent here was to have the tasting area as the focal point and the tea and chocolate retail section to merge with it,along with a memorabilia collection and the end .

ENTRY

The color palette is a neutral color scheme which focuses the attention towards the products along with bright blue highlights in places to attract interest to certain sections

The store opens to the new Arrivals section and then gives the customer the choice of either Directly going to the tasting area or to proceed to the retail Section . The tasting area being the focal point is accessible from all parts of the store ,the customer has the freedom to either directly enter the tasting section or to wander around and then arrive there . After the selection of the products they can proceed to the billing area accompanied by the Memorabilia section .

The design of a kiosk was included in the design brief The kiosk was also designed to follow the theme of the store while keeping in mind the functionality

The idea of this space was to not only provide an exclusive setting for tea and chocolate lovers but also to widen the customer base by giving them an experience rather than the usual walk in ,walk out story, to create a place they would keep coming back to .

TRAIN OF THOUGHT SEMESTER: 5Th SUBJECT: Achitectural Design LOCATION: Hogenekkal falls,Tamilnadu A set of 11 dwellings for writers on a bridge. The site is located on a patch of river in hognekkal

My concept revolved around a railway bridge ,the idea being that bridges are usually seen as a link to a certain destination rather than as the destination itself. The design has a railway bridge made of truss system as the external element and the actual residences placed in it represented as the train stopped while going through the bridge. UNIT PLAN LEVEL 1

The units are also designed to go along with the overall theme such as the windows and the long linear Corridor resembling that of a train and the added effect of the truss giving a feeling of being in motion while stationary.

The structure is a truss system, Self supporting in nature. The Vertical members are in tensiion.on while the top ones are in compression .This system distributes the forces equally.

CITY ENSEMBLE SEMESTER: 6th SUBJECT: Architectural Design LOCATION: Palace grounds, Bangalore The sobriquets of Bangalore have evolved over centuries lending new identities as the city has evolved. The flavors, sight, sounds and features of the city has changed which has led to the need for a city ensemble where all the various aspects of a city can be documented, experienced or facilitated.. This city awareness Centre will provide a one point contact for all the various players related to the city like the ministry of tourism, archaeological survey of India, Hospitality industry and city enthusiasts who are keen to retain the city’s fabric.

My idea for this project was to re-imagine Bangalore as the garden city it was. Bangalore in recent times has lost the allure it used to have as the garden city of India with the increase in population and the resultant loss of greenery that comes with the development needed to cater to the population.

My design’s purpose was to explore the possibility that the building and the surrounding greenery can integrate and co-exist with each other in various forms. This in turn would also give the people who visit this facility a glimpse of the garden city that Bangalore was.

AN URBAN DWELLING SEMESTER: 5Th SUBJECT: Urban design LOCATION: K.R market ,Bangalore Overall objective was to come up with a master plan for K.R market area. My design is a mixed use project with a residential, commercial and public components.

The urban design studio was a two part project- one being a group project was to document ,study and come up with a master plan proposal for the KR market area whereas the second part was to proposed site from the master plan and come with a program and design as suitable. The group documentation and study of the market area was done with respect to land use ,building-use, demographical studies, socio-economic and socio-cultural aspects.

My proposed site was opposite the K.R market metro Station. It was a currently residential area with dilapidated Low density housing. My proposal was to come with a mixed used building ,to combine residential, commercial and Community development. My proposal aimed at increasing the density of the housing to suit the area and provide better facilities to the occupants currently living there in addition to this were the Commercial and public edge to cater to the upcoming Transport hub across the road

MASTER PLAN AT GROUND LEVEL

A NARRATIVE PARADOX SEMESTER: 5th SUBJECT: Architectural design LOCATION: Koramangla ,Bangalore

The design brief of this project was to build a state of the art film school in the deeply residential part of koramangla The intention was to facilitate high quality education in the various processes of film making and to involve the public in most of these activities .

My idea for this design was a take on the good vs evil or the protagonist vs the antagonist or such similar contrasting themes which exist in films .That is to say the Contrasting themes play of each other and highlight key features just like how a hero’s character is highlighted due to comparison with the villain’s or vice -a -versa , I have tried to attempt this difference in terms of the architectural language of the 2 major blocks on opposite sides separated by a water channel and connected by a bridge which symbolizes the story which connects the characters .

The block on the left represents the classic protagonist with the architectural vocabulary being very classical and clean with reference to simple building style and the classical order of perpendicular columns whereas towards the right side the block represents the antagonist with the highly modern style of design with the building being suspended between the columns by steel tensioned cables and also the use of V shaped columns to play off the straight columns on the other side .

AT THE REEF’S EDGE ( in progress thesis project) SEMESTER: 8th SUBJECT: Architectural thesis LOCATION: Gulf of mannar ,Rameswaram Thesis inquiry : can an architectural intervention be staged at this unique site to not only sustain the current existing endangered habitat but also improve or assist it in thriving further and bring about increased awareness and economic activity in this region to coexist .

HABITAT CONSERVATION AND ECOTOURISM CENTRE KEYWORDS: Habitat conservation Intervention Research Centre Eco tourism Interpretation ISSUES: Population growth Unsustainable fishing practices Submergence of islands Excess collection of sea weed and shell Pollution from factories, power plants and harbors Climate change and temperature rise Depletion of mangroves

The current scenario is that the natural world and the human world are existing as separate entities in this region with neither of them thriving . This thesis would question if an architectural intervention can help bring them closer together to co-exist without invading each other’s spaces and also bring about more awareness to this region without destroying its essence.

REGIONAL CONTEXT AND SITE CONTEXT The site has a two fold context ,one being the regional context with landmarks such as the pumban bridge ,rameswaram etc and then the immediate site context which lies towards the edge of the main land close to one of the largest islands in the mannar group Krusadai island which is 200 meters from the main land

PROGRAM Program has 2 main components -a research component attached with a residential section and a tourism component which could create awareness and economy to fund the research related activities and promote Eco tourism.

My overall design idea is to come up with a state of the art research and Eco tourism facility to create awareness and showcase this unique site . This can to done : 1. By responding to the site and immediate context with the climate, landscape and the sea edge 2.with the form of the building . 3.with the program and functions and how to reinterpret them in a more informal setting suited to the context 4.By the architectural language used in the building.

THE GREEN WALL (working Drawing) SEMESTER: 6th SUBJECT:working drawings LOCATION: palace grounds.Bangalore As part of the city ensemble project a small cafeteria was to be designed and a set of working drawings for the same to be Completed.

CAFETERIA (Working drawings) The idea of this design was to come up with a cafeteria design to the city Centre program and a set of working drawings. My idea for this cafe was to engage with the greenery outside and inside and connect it to the overall theme of the city ensemble project ( mentioned previously ). It is a two storey structure made of exposed brick ,glass ,green walls and a green roof. STAIRCASE DETAIL
