FROM

YOUR

BULLETIN EDITOR

Hey Southwest! The school year has come to an end, but that doesn’t mean your service does. Just remember; summer is the perfect time for recruitment! We’re making BIG changes this year, and we hope you will strive to show all the incoming students all the great things CKI has to offer! But for now, enjoy your well-deserved breaks, and enjoy this new bulletin! Stay awesome, Banna Tesfay

A

WORD

FROM

YOUR

GOVERNOR

Hi there mighty Southwest! Whether you are finally home for the summer, finishing up finals, or graduating, I hope this month has treated you well. We are fortunate enough to have an amazing board this year in the Southwest District and they truly showed that at Kamp Kiwanis on May 1st at District Officer Training. I will be leaving the country on May 15th and returning in August. You will still all be able to reach me via email, but if you ever have a pressing need or concern, I encourage you to reach out to your LTG’s or anyone on the board. Everyone on the team is here to serve you in anyway they can. RAAWR!

(Translation: Have an AMAZING summer Southwest!)”

Keep Shining, Ava Red

SERVICE SCOOP May 2015

Southwest District Circle K International

District Project Hello everybody!

OUR PARTNERS

After attending DOTC this past weekend, we are exUNICEF (Eliminate and cited to report that as your service chairs, we will be Six Cents Initiative) coordinating and implementing a district-wide CKI branded project. This project will allow us to promote March of Dimes CKI as a service organization and promote our disUp With People trict. It will also correlate with the rebranding of the district, ensuring that we are no longer confused with Students Team Up To the gas station, but recognized as the world’s largest Fight Hunger collegiate service organization. Noting that, if you Better World Books have any ideas for target audiences or potential projects, please let us know! We can’t wait to build this program alongside you.

2015-2016 Goals 

Increase service hours Increase K-Family support Increase inter-club events Develop districtproject

Eliminate Week

As some of you may know, Eliminate Week was May 4-8, an event that the entire K-Family supports. Noting that, if anybody participated by supporting Eliminate, please let us know! We look forward to hearing your success stories.

LEADERSHIP ACADEMY 2015 EXPLORE. ENGAGE. EVOLVE. What is Leadership Academy?

CKI Leadership Academy (LA) is an investment in the members of CKI. The six-day event is intense and focuses leadership based on servant leadership, which requires leaders to put the needs of others first, and to realize that no matter whether or not you have a title, there is always a need for service to one another and to the world. This program takes members of CKI through an adventure, starting with the CKI amazing race and ending with a plan in place to serve. The most unique part of the program—and what sets it apart from others—is that students and facilitators have an opportunity to do a service project during the program. ”At first I thought people didn’t tell you what happened at Leadership Academy because it is a mystery to try to get you to go,” says LA graduate Ava Red. “I thought when they said ‘LA changed my life’ it was just talking about your CKI life. But after I came back, I realized it wasn’t just about CKI and that people don’t tell you what happens at LA because there simply are no words for how unique and personal it is.”

Leadership Academy takes place Sunday, July 26, through Friday, July 31 at the Waycross Camp and Conference Center in Morgantown, Indiana. For more information on this unforgettable opportunity, costs, and how to apply, check out their website at : http://www.circlek.org/Leadership/LeadershipAcademy. 8 aspx

MEMBERS OF THE MONTH KRISTINA KRAWCZYK | GCU CKI Kristina is April’s member of the month because she has taken the responsibility to become Treasurer of the club with an open mind. Her term has just begun and she is already contributing excellent ideas to make a great change within the club. For that, she is a star!

ELAINE WONG| NAU CKI Elaine is an awesome member and president. She is always participating in CKI and service events. She is friendly, kind, helpful and constantly puts members and service first. She is passionate about CKI and the events we do and encourages us to reach our full potential as a club.

LINH TRAN| UNM CKI

Linh joined UNM CKI less than two months ago. Since then, she has attended numerous service projects and has given each of them her 100%. She attends most club Board Meetings, and overall exemplifies a servant-leader in our club, despite the short time she has been a part of our club.
