Hey Southwest! I cannot believe that our new CKI year is already beginning! It is amazing to already be publishing my first bulletin… the April edition of Southwest Sun! Even though the year is just kicking off, however, we are already hitting the ground running! Your incoming board of officers has their board training coming up, and CKIx is in San Antonio in just under three months! Moving forward, I can’t wait to see all of the amazing things our small-but-mighty district accomplishes this year! With that in mind, I hope you enjoy this bulletin, and I can’t wait to continue connecting with you over the next 12 months!

LIVE LOVE

LEAD

What does

leadership

10

mean to you?

By: Joshua McGuire, GCU

Leadership is the uncanny ability to rally around a purpose. I like to look at leadership as an opportunity to live out your personal values, and find others that agree with you along the way. Being a part of leadership in CKI the past three years at the district and club level, in board and chair positions, I’ve learned one thing: people don’t follow goals, expectations, accolades, or even food! But what we do follow is our own dreams our individual values, and a purpose. The best leaders identify those that have common purpose and pursue making dreams a reality. Do your best this year, embrace the process, and go out and fulfill dreams through your service!

SUBREGION B

superstars

ROCKY MOUNTAIN On March 3-5, Rocky Mountain District CKI celebrated their annual District Convention. At this event, the district retired their current officers, elected new officers, and celebrated an outstanding year of service. Now, we are excited to welcome the new board, led by 2017-2018 RMD Governor Samantha Morgan Leshikar!

CALI-NEV-HA From March 17-19 CNH hosted their annual District Convention, which two members from ASU CKI attended! At this convention, Nam Tran and Elizabeth Kwan were able to strengthen our Sub-B Bonds and celebrate that “Service Is Not So Spooky after all! Now, we are pleased to introduce 2017-2018 CNH Governor Lawrence Sahagun.

12 SERVICE SPOTLIGHT

On March 17 and 18, Up with People hosted two shows, “The Journey,” after performing community service in Tucson earlier that week!. CKI members from UA and GCU were able to attend this event and connect with one of our preferred charities.

ASU CKI worked at an event called “Special Day for Special Kids,” where club members worked to offer children with special needs a day filled with fun and friends!

SERVICE PARTNER SPOTLIGHT One of CKI’s official service partners, March of Dimes, is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. It’s mission is to “improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.”

13

MARCH 2017 MEMBERS OF THE MONTH

ASU | TIEN TRAN Tien served as the President of ASU CKI for 2 years. She worked to rebuild a struggling club, and now it is one of the strongest clubs in our district. She has inspired many members within her club, and has also reached out on a district level. For instance, she has helped members run for district office. Furthermore, she has worked to facilitate interclub events, inviting other clubs to attend her club’s annual banquet and to collaborate on service projects. She will be greatly missed after she graduates next month.
