Aeterna is a globe spanning odyssey, steeped in the tempo of the contemplative traditions. Through the eye of the free floating witness, we observe life at work and leisure, in play and through hardships, from the shanty towns of Cape Town, to the Waura Tribe by the Xangu river, through the mist of the Atlas mountains to the coloured night skies of Beijing.

We find ourselves in an extravagant garden in Ouagadougou. The French Ambassador’s wife dreamt about becoming a famous opera singer. Instead, she is now using the singing as a ventilator to survive her seemingly privileged life surrounded by workers. This film raises questions about power structures, class, intersectionality, post colonialism and feminism in a poetic, subtle and seductive way.

based filmmaker and visual artist who grew up in Sweden and Burkina Faso. She studied film production at The New School in New York and the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts. Her graduation film Taxi Sister received international praise and was screened at festivals worldwide. In 2017, she took her master’s degree in Fine Arts at The Royal Institute of Art in Sweden. The same year her feature length debut Ouaga Girls premiered.

During a six-year period in the mid-twentieth century something unsurpassed happens. A lanky and not very well known Swede, about to turn forty, enters a period of film production without precedent. Between 1957 and 1963 he directs some of the greatest classics in the history of cinema: The Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries, The Devil’s Eye, The Virgin Spring, Through a Glass Darkly and The Silence among others. Bergman – A Year in a Life reveals previously untold stories and information about Ingmar Bergman’s life and character, but also discloses his inner life through his own words.

Jane Magnusson (born in 1968) is an award-winning Swedish director and journalist. Her documentary Trespassing Bergman (2013) screened at the Venice International Film Festival and her short Vox Lipoma (2018) competed at Sundance Film Festival 2018. Agnieszka Lukasiak (born in 1977). After graduating from the Polish National Film School in Lodz, she began making feature-length documentaries including the multi-award winning Algeria, the Nameless War (2002) and Forgotten (2005), both released theatrically. Her debut narrative feature cinema release, Between Two Fires (2011), was awarded at multiple festivals and nominated for a Swedish Guldbagge Award.

“We all have different beliefs and convictions, but what makes some of us go to extreme lengths in their name? Are these people different than the rest of us? Can you profile them? Can you find the answer in their upbringing, social class, circumstances? Or are they just like you and me?” The film explores these questions by letting the audience be part of an experiment, in which two psychologists are asked to make personality assessments of two subjects they do not know the identity of.

With vitality and humour Hamada paints an unusual portrait of a group of young friends living in a refugee camp in the middle of the Saharan desert. They spend their days fixing cars that can’t take them anywhere, looking for jobs that don’t exist and dreaming about an outside world they probably will never meet. The world’s second largest military wall separates them from their homeland and they have been living there for forty years. They are called the Sahrawis, also known as the world’s most forgotten people.

Eloy Domínguez Serén (born in 1985 in Galicia) studied in Salamanca, Milan and Barcelona and worked as a film critic before moving to Sweden in 2012. His film No Cow on the Ice premiered in 2015 at Visions du Réel and was awarded at Filmadrid, Play-Doc and L’Alternativa; while his two mosts recent works, the short films Yellow Brick Road (2015) and Rust (2016), premiered at Jihlava IDFF and FID Marseille.

The word “juck” is Swedish for “hump” and the groundbreaking appearance by the dance group JUCK pushed the boundaries for how we are used to seeing the female body. JUCK questions the positions of object and subject. They provoke, inspire and break norms. The film poses the question: what is femininity?

The Raft

In 1973, five men and six women drifted across the Atlantic on a raft as part of a ­scientific experiment studying the sociology of violence, aggression and sexual attraction in human behavior. Although the project became known in the press as “The Sex Raft”, nobody expected what ultimately took place on that three month journey. Through extraordinary archive material and a reunion of the surviving members of the expedition on a full scale replica of the raft, this film tells the hidden story behind what has been described as “one of the strangest group experiments of all time.”

Anna Eborn was born in 1983 on the island Skaftö in Sweden. Her debut and self-edited film Pine Ridge (2013) premiered at Venice IFF and won the Dragon Award for best documentary at Gothenburg IFF. Her second feature Epifanía premiered at Busan IFF 2016 and her latest film Lida (2018) premiered in competition at Visions du Réel and CPH:DOX 2017.
