One of the greatest filmmakers of all time.
Ingmar Bergman (1918– 2007), Swedish writer, theatre director and filmmaker. His most renowned works include the films The Seventh Seal, Persona and Fanny and Alexander, the television series Scenes from a Marriage and books and screenplays such as The Magic Lantern and The Best Intentions. Undoubtedly one of the most famous Swedes ever, Ingmar Bergman’s centenary will be celebrated all over the world in 2018. In 1946 Bergman made made his cinema debut as screenwriter with Crisis. Followed by a forty-odd feature films over more than three decades, Bergman’s last major work was the television piece Sarabande, written and directed in 2003, at the age of eighty-five. 6
S W E D I S H F I LM
Bergman’s vast body of work follows a theme with variations. His universe is peopled by dysfunctional families as well as humiliated but vampiric artists feeding on the lives of others – and God, if He exists at all, is silent. But whether a film depicts a married couple divorcing, an artist’s frustration over a distracted audience, or a medieval knight desperately seeking the meaning of life (and death) – they all boil down to problems of communication between people. His cinematic style is austere and unobtrusive, the exception being his uncompromising close-ups of the human face, at once enticing and mysterious. Ingmar Bergman’s significance in the history of cinema cannot be overestimated.
• All Bergman’s films made for cinema are available in DCP format. • An exhibition about the filmmaker, Ingmar Bergman 100, is available for e.g. cinemas and libraries. • Ingmar Bergman A–Ö, a guidebook to the world of Ingmar Bergman with 146 anecdotal trivia and unknown facts, is available in English. • The exhibition A Never-Ending Whispering Conversation, about the creative process of Fanny and Alexander, is available for e.g. cinematheques and museums. • New prints of original Swedish posters of five of Bergman’s films are available for display in connection to film screenings. • Jubilee logo, portraits of Ingmar Bergman, his signature and a selection of film stills are available for free use at ingmarbergman.se. • For bookings and information, please contact Kajsa Hedström: kajsa.hedstrom@sfi.se

B-REEL FILMS
An artist, Anna Odell, has chosen a famous and celebrated actor, Mikael Persbrandt, to collaborate together on a feature film to deconstruct themselves and their habitual roles. They embark on a game without a script and without rules where they use people around them to examine the masculine and feminine identity. The Artist’s concept of mixing reality and fiction starts to create conflicts and eventually the Actor and even the film crew start to question the Artist’s capability.
Anna Odell Anna Odell is an original and unique talent in the world of Swedish art and cinema. What has primarily shaped her is her willingness to take risks, to dare to challenge and push boundaries. This is reflected in her art installations and her films. Anna Odell’s feature film debut The Reunion (2013) shocked and surprised the Swedish establishment and the film world. Her second feature takes a firm view of the male and female identity.

If you could look into the minds of people who do extreme things, people you fear, what would you see: a monster, your neighbour or perhaps yourself? That’s the question the film explores by letting the audience be part of an experiment, in which two prominent psychologists are asked to make personality assessments of two subjects they do not know the identity of. The two subjects undergo multiple therapy sessions as part of the assessment, during which the most formative and traumatic events from their childhood surface. Both subjects are then asked to cast themselves as children, and direct the re-enactments of these pivotal events. The Ambassador’s Wife
As We’re Told
Stockholm, 1981. A man convinces his husband to go with him to a sauna to get new sexual experiences with other men. The man finds the sauna to be a safe place where he can explore his deepest desires. But even in paradise there are rules that you have to obey.
We find ourselves in an extravagant garden in Ouagadougou. The French Ambassador’s wife dreamt about becoming a famous opera singer. Instead, she is now using singing as a ventilator to survive her seemingly privileged life surrounded by workers. This film raises questions about power structures, class, intersectionality, post colonialism and feminism in a poetic, subtle and seductive way.
What’s it like working inside Sweden’s most hated agency, the Employment Agency? We’re meeting case workers, psychologists, bosses all portrayed by puppets inside a world of corrugated paper. This is a study of what happens when you just do what you’ve been told. Based on a book by author and Professor in Sociology, Roland Paulsen.

The Breath’s Deer
The Burden
Dark Chamber
Elsa and the Night
“One of the last traces I left behind was the weak snow”, contemplates Stellan Skarsgård in the role of Anders Ramsell. The Breath’s Deer is told through hundreds of watercolor paintings. It’s a film about what awaits humanity and moves seamlessly between genres of sci-fi and fine art. Where will it leave you?
An animated musical with apocalyptic undertones. The story is divided into four episodes that take place in a supermarket, a long term hotel, a call center and a hamburger restaurant. The characters, portrayed as animals, perform musical numbers with singing and dancing. The episodes vary both in story and mood, and span from cheerful tap routine to nightmarish black.
The Camera Obscura (latin for Dark Chamber) is an optical device that led to the photographic camera. It consists of a box or a room with a hole on one side. This film is a reconstruction of an event that took place near the border of Austria and Hungary in the summer of 2015.
Elsa has not slept a wink for thirty years. Early one morning when she’s sitting at the kitchen table, she finds an unwelcome guest underneath her sofa. The creature turns out to be none other than the Night itself. Elsa tells it of her life, and of the death of her best friend – an elephant named Olaf. The Night accompanies her on a moving journey that tells the story of an extraordinary friendship. Finally the Night carries her – sleeping – through the town in its arms.

Marall follows her parents to a party and they want her to behave. As the evening progresses she finds the adults’ behavior increasingly strange. Everyone at the party is trying to fit in, but not everyone succeeds. Marall also seems to be the only one seeing the shadow circulating inside the house.
At a creative agency somewhere in Stockholm, there’s a short break in a meeting. Cecilia relates an anecdote from a hen party, about a “Turk Shop” that turned out to be closed. Asal, relatively new at the workplace, questions Cecilia’s choice of words, and this seriously offends Cecilia.
Tweener follows 13-year old wrestler Jaana and her best friend Bettan. Jaana’s goal is to advance to the more experienced group, and they are well on their way. But suddenly their relationship changes, as Bettan starts focusing more on life outside the wrestling club. Jaana has to choose between following her best friend or following her own goals.
