SusanMartin,originally fromSouthTexas,hasbeen fascinatedbythevisualrichnessofthebotanicalworld sincechildhood.Her BotanicaSeriesreflectsthis consuminginterestinthe varietyofcolors,shapes, andlinesfoundinnature. Stronglightrevealsintriguingformsandtextures. Fromthemassofplantlife, Martincarvesouttightly croppedcompositions,eliminatingunessentialelements andparingdownthepaintingsubjecttowhatfirst attractedher.
Thoughhersubjectmatterisrecognizable,Martin’s paintingsareconceivedand paintedasabstracts.Allthe parts:Foregroundandbackground,positiveandnegativespacesaretreatedas equallyimportant.The branches,vines,flowers, andleavesbecomeshapes, lines,andtextureswhich makeacomplexabstraction whenviewedupclose.The imageryissometimeslarger thanlife,withsomeofthe
featuredpiecesreachingup tofivefeetinonedirection, andallarepaintedina ‘superreal’manner.The intensecolorsarearesultof manylayersofacrylic paints.Martinencourages theviewertolookcloselyat thepaintingandtoimagine beingapartofthisprivate place.
WorksbyJadeGriffinwill befeaturedinthetheatre galleryinAugust.“TheFirst TheatreProduction”(2023) isacollectionofnarrativedrivenoilpaintingscreated overthiscalendaryearby visualartistJadeGriffin. Thisbodyofworkcrosses theboundariesofnormalcy andwhatisacceptable.It pushestheboundariesof howweseeourselvesand strangersineverydaylife. Cartoonishfacialfeatures, exaggeratedscenes,and extendedlimbsofferanew perspectiveonhumanity througheachpiece.

MichaelV.SantacrocegraduatedfromFloridaGulfCoast UniversityintheSpringof2020withaBachelorofArts,focusingonprintmaking.HecurrentlyworksasthegallerycoordinatorattheCapeCoralArtCenter.In2022,hestartedacollaborationwiththeFGCUWasmerArtGallerytocurateanannual alumniexhibitionhostedattheartcenter.Additionally,Michael teachescoursesonintroductoryandadvancedreliefprintmakingattheCapeCoralArtCenter.Heiscurrentlyworkingona bigprojectwithFGCUthatwillbeunveiledinOctober.
Santacroce’sprocessofcreatingartusesastreamofconsciousnessapproach,inwhichhislineworkbecomesautomaticandareflectionofhisownsubconsciousthoughts.He findsthecarvingprocessesinvolvedinreliefprintmakingtherapeuticandfocusesontheexpressivequalitiesofhisartto helpworkthroughcomplexemotionsandideas.Hiswork drawsinspirationfromhisownpersonalstruggleswithidentity,sexuality,andmentalhealth.Thoughheprimarilyworksin ink,Michaelhasrecentlybeenapplyinghisprintmakingskills toceramicsandenjoyingtolearnanewmediumfromwhich tocreate.

Theexhibitionwasthe resultofanappealfordisplay spaceissuedbytheFort MyersBeachArtAssociation (FMBAA)whenHurricaneIan destroyedthatgroup’sgallery inFortMyersBeach.Tribby ArtsCenterwasamonglocal artsorganizationsthat steppedforwardtohostexhibitionsofFMBAAmembers’ works.
CuratorLeenotedthatit wasimportanttotheTribbyto alsoincludemembersofthe Sanibel-CaptivaArtLeague, asmanyofthatgroup’smembersalsowereimpactedby HurricaneIan’sdestruction.
“Becausesomanyartists intheregionwere andcontinuetobe displacedor impactedby HurricaneIan,we wereuncertainhow manyartistswould beabletorespond toFortitude’scall forentries,”said Lee.“Butthisexhibitionof58engagingworksproves thatourlocalartists havefortitudeand arecreatingexcellentwork.”
Severalthemes stronglyemerge throughoutthe bodyofworkon display,including interpretationsof thethemefortitude, depictionsofpopularplacesinthe region,florals, landscapes,and more.
