The Smell of the Kill opens Aug. 4 at Laboratory Theater The Laboratory Theater of Florida presents The Smell of the Kill, opening on Aug. 4 at 8 p.m. Take three delicious, malicious wives, add three miserable, unloving husbands and chill. That's the recipe of Michele Lowe's tantalizing new comedy that had Broadway audiences cheering. The Smell of the Kill revolves around Nicky, Debra and Molly who have tolerated one another during once-amonth dinners for years. While their spouses play golf in the dining room, the women exchange confidences for the first time, revealing that all three marriages are on the brink of disaster and all three women are facing the challenges of their lives. Nicky's husband has been indicted for embezzlement, Molly's husband is stalking her and Debra's hus-

band is leaving her for another woman. When the men mistakenly lock themselves in a basement meat locker, the women are faced with a life-or-death decision: should they leave the men out in the cold permanently or let them thaw? One by one, the women make their choices with more than a little help from one another. Director Carmen Crussard says, “Every marriage has its ups and downs and moments in which you think ‘I could kill you right now.’ But most people don't actually mean it...right? The Smell of the Kill is about three wives with seemingly perfect lives who are suddenly faced with the opportunity to lose their excess baggage (aka: their husbands). The choice forces them to reveal their darkest secrets to each other and the ensuing chaos is hilarious and horrifying. Audience members will feel a strange connection to these characters (even if they won't admit it) and leave the theater thinking ‘Am I capable of murder?’” Lucy Sundby, a Lehigh Acres resident who plays Nicky, adds, “This show is hysterical and I get to work with some of the funniest actresses around. If you don’t see it, you’re missing out!” The Smell of the Kill, which runs Aug. 4 through Aug. 20 at the Laboratory Theater of Florida, features Tera Nicole Miller as Debra, Lucy Sundby as Nicky, Jessica Walck as Molly and is directed by Carmen Crussard. Performance dates are as Aug. 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25 and 26 at 8 p.m. and Aug. 13 and 20 at 2 p.m. Tickets for this show are available to purchase on www.Brownpapertickets.com or by calling the box office at 239-2180481. The show also features Miguel Cintron as the dentist, Holly Hagan and Chance Cintron. Other shows in Theatre Conspiracy’s 2017-18 season:

Buyer & Cellar by Jonathan Tolins

Oct. 6 – 14 An outrageous comedy about the price of fame, the cost of things, and the oddest of odd jobs. Alex More has a story to tell. A struggling actor in L.A., Alex takes a job working in the Malibu basement of a beloved megastar: Barbra Streisand. One day, the Lady Herself comes downstairs to play. It feels like real bonding in the basement, but will their relationship ever make it upstairs? Florida Rep’s education director Kody C. Jones stars in this one-man show.

Seven Guitars by August Wilson

Nov. 3 – 18 After serving jail time on a trumped-up vagrancy charge, blues musician Floyd “Schoolboy” Barton sets out to win back his girl and reclaim his pawned guitar, hoping to make a new hit record. Set in 1948 in the backyard of a Pittsburgh apartment house, Seven Guitars follows Floyd’s circle of friends and neighbors—the play’s seven voices—as they spin a rich tale of the deck that’s stacked against them, what they’ve lost and all they dream. This lyrical play is part of August Wilson’s American Century Cycle, which charts the African-American experience through each decade of the 20th century.

A One-Man Christmas Carol adapted by James Rana and Timur Kocak

Dec. 15 & 16 at 8 p.m. Back by popular demand! With only the aid of a steamer trunk full of props, Timur Kocak plays all 24 roles in this dynamic one-man version of Charles Dickens’ 1843 holiday classic.

Your Love, Our Musical by Rebecca Vigil and Evan Kaufman

Jan. 11 – 14 Fresh off their successful run in New York City, comedic musical improvisers interview a couple in the audience about their relationship and spin an impromptu musical about the couple’s love story. If you like comedy, musicals, or just being in love, this show was designed for you.

New Play Contest Fundraiser

Jan. 27 at 8 p.m. The evening will begin at 7 p.m. with a reception in the gallery with food, wine and drinks. At 8 p.m. there will be reading from the top three entries of the Annual New Play Contest. After the last play is read, the audience will vote for their favorite and determine the winner. That show will then be produced in full in August of 2018. Tickets to the New Play Contest are $50.

Gidion's Knot by Johnna Adams

Feb. 8 – 18 Amidst the fallout from her 5th grade son's suspension from school, a mother demands answers. What begins as a highly charged parent/teacher conference with Gidion's reticent teacher soon develops into a revelatory confrontation. A thoughtprovoking exploration that keeps us guessing about where to lay blame when children go astray. A suspenseful drama that is as elegant as it is chilling.

A Dollʼs House by Henrik Ibsen

March 1 – 11 A stark and unforgiving look behind the façade of an ideal marriage: Nora and Torvald Helmer are living their dream life, happily married with children and security. When Nora risks her reputation to save her husband’s life, the consequences test the limits of their love.

Grounded by George Brant

March 22 – 25 A hotshot fighter pilot sidelined by pregnancy is forced to operate military drones from a windowless trailer in the Las Vegas desert. This one-woman show targets our assumptions about war, family, and the power of storytelling.

A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry

May 3 – 13 A fateful life insurance policy becomes a catalyst that will forever transform the lives of a family living on the South Side of Chicago, as they consider buying a house on the white side of town. Their shared dream of a better life collides with conflicting aspirations, betrayal and racism in this timeless production. Comedy & concerts end summer season at Cultural Park Theater

By MIchael Moran Men are Dogs, a realistic romantic comedy by playwright Joe Simonelli, opens Aug 18 and runs through Aug. 20 at Cultural Park Theatre. Director Christi Wengerter brings the somewhat adult-themed play to life, with the actors starring in roles that require the wisdom of married life. The play centers on a psychiatrist, Cecilia Monahan, a woman with many self-help books but who, in reality, doesn’t have the slightest clue about relationships. She is her own worst enemy in relationships: afraid of commitment because of her father’s abandonment. Luckily, she finds solace in her own singles group and with the help of her nosy, boisterous mother. But it's her ensemble of neurotic patients who provide the hilarity in this delightful comedy - action that usually consists of unbridled rage directed frequently and forcefully toward the hapless actor who stands in for insensitive males during the role-playing sessions. Our summer season concludes with a concert as Liverpool Live the #1 working Beatles tribute in Florida takes the stage Sept. 1 -3. The group is fun, fun, fun! This band is a group of true entertainers that completely involve the audience. Members of this group include past cast members of Disney Orlando. This group has played it all from corporate shows to sold out theaters. This is a note for note copy of the Beatles music. The band has authentic equipment, costumes and amplifiers that were used by the Fab Four. If you want to have a great time and be entertained, don't miss these guys. We have announced our fall season of shows at CPT and ticket packages are available now. We are proud to open this season with Tarzan the musical, as Tarzan swings into Cultural Park when we open this dazzling performance on Sept. 8. The production is based on the original Edgar Rice Burroughs stories and the Disney animated film that was released in theaters in 1999. Tarzan, The Stage Musical, is the story of an orphaned boy

raised by a tribe of gorillas and includes the music of Phil Collins. “Adults and children can both find a lot of joy in the production,” said director Tyler Young, “It's a beautiful story about love and heart and heartbreak and discovery.” As for the rest of the season check our website or call our Box Office for dates and listings of all the shows this season. We are producing the musicals Pajama Game and Sister Act along with the brilliant Agatha Christie drama The Mousetrap. Look forward to a blockbuster of comedy the production of The Odd Couple, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Cemetery Club and Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps. Then we add in our Spectacular Christmas show and Brooklyn Boys Revue and our 55th Season promises to be our best yet. Reminder: Friday and Saturday performances re at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Call our box office at 239-772-5862 for tickets. Cultural Park Theater is located at 528 Cultural Park Blvd. Cape Coral. Local theatre groups to hold season auditions

Naples Players auditions Aug. 12 for Maple & Vine, She Kills Monsters

On Saturday, Aug. 12, from noon to 4 p.m., The Naples Players will hold open auditions for the play Maple & Vine. Katha and Ryu have become allergic to their 21st-century lives. After they meet a charismatic man from a community of 1950s re-enactors, they forsake cell phones and sushi for cigarettes and Tupperware parties. In this compulsively authentic world, Katha and Ryu are surprised by what their new neighbors - and they themselves - are willing to sacrifice for happiness. The play is written by Jordan Harrison. Rehearsals begin Sept. 18, and performances will be Wednesdays - Sundays, Oct. 25 – Nov. 19. Needed: Three men (20s – 30s) and two women (20s – 30s) The Naples Players will also hold open auditions Aug. 12 from noon to 4 p.m. for the comedy She Kills Monsters. Tilly’s sister Agnes loses herself in her sister’s game to reclaim their connection. Acclaimed young playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all. Rehearsals start Aug. 28, and performances are Wednesdays - Sundays, Oct. 11 – Nov. 5. Needed: Three men (Teens – 30s) and six women (Teens – 30s). Florida Rep adds final show to 2017-18 season

Florida Repertory Theatre announced the final addition to its 20th anniversary season with the world premiere production of Mark St. Germain's, George Washington's Teeth. The farce for five women will play in Florida Rep's ArtStage Studio Theatre April 3 to May 6, 2018, and was chosen from six plays read as part of the company's PlayLab Festival held earlier this year. George Washington's Teeth is a hilarious comedy that follows the exploits of the women of the beleaguered New Bunion Historical Society as they battle the male city council to keep the doors open. With time running out to renew their lease, the ladies must find creative ways to snare new members and lure visitors to their sleepy, New England town. When a set of George Washington's dentures turns up in the hands of an unexpected rival, the ladies of the Society brace themselves for all-out war. Heartfelt and historic, this new farce proves that our differences don't divide us, they make us strong. Florida Rep audiences will recognize St. Germain from previous hits, Camping with Henry and Tom, which opened the then newly-renovated ArtStage Studio Theatre in 2012, and Best of Enemies last fall. St. Germain will join Florida Rep later this year for a developmental workshop before the play begins its rehearsals in March 2018. George Washington's Teeth tickets are $55 and $45 for regular performances, $35 and $25 for previews. Subscriptions are on sale now and offer the best seats at the biggest savings. Single tickets are on sale now through the box office at 239-332-4488 and online at www.floridarep.org. Florida Repertory Theatre performs in the Historic Arcade Theatre and the ArtStage Studio Theatre on Bay St. between Jackson & Hendry with limited free parking in the Fort Myers River District.

This outrageous musical comedy follows the misadventures of a mismatched pair of missionaries, sent halfway across the world to spread the Good Word. An American in Paris will be presented Jan. 16 – 21. Making its Southwest Florida debut, An American in Paris is the new Tony-winning musical about an American soldier, a mysterious French girl and an indomitable European city, each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of war. Acclaimed director/choreographer and 2015 Tony-winner Christopher Wheeldon brings the magic and romance of Paris into the perfect harmony with unforgettable songs from George and Ira Gershwin. Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The King and I will be performed Feb. 7 – 11. The King and I boasts a score that features such beloved classics as Getting To Know You, I Whistle a Happy Tune, Hello Young Lovers, Shall We Dance and Something Wonderful. Set in 1860s Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British school teacher whom the modernist king, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children. Jersey Boys will be on the Naples stage April 3 – 8. The Tony-, Grammy- and Olivier Award-winning Best Musical about Rock and Roll Hall of Famers the Four Seasons — Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi — returns to Naples by popular demand. This is the true story of how four blue-collar kids became one of the greatest successes in pop music history. For tickets and info, visit www.artisnaples.org or call 239-597-1900.

Two shows on stage at Sugden in August

The Naples Players KidzAct present the musical comedy Sister Act – Teen Version Aug. 4 – 6 in Blackburn Hall at the Sugden Community Theater, 701 5th Ave. S, Naples. The Naples Players KidzAct presents James & The Giant Peach Aug. 11 – 13 in the Tobye Studio at Sugden Theatre. Based on one of Roald Dahl’s most poignantly quirky stories, Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach JR. is a brand-new take on this "masterpeach" of a tale. Featuring a wickedly tuneful score and a witty and charming book, this adventurous musical about courage and self-discovery is destined to be a classic. When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. Symphonic Chorale: Be a part of Summer Sing 2017 and experience Elijah on Aug. 29

The Symphonic Chorale of Southwest Florida presents the oratorio Elijah, at its Summer Sing to be held for the first time in the downtown Fort Myers River District on Aug. 29 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Most importantly this summer evening of song, features you, all singers from the community who want to participate in a magnificent evening of song. The Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center is the venue for Summer Sing and offers an opportunity for singers and audience to enjoy a special night out downtown. Come early, stay late and mainly come sing with the Symphonic Chorale. Summer Sing is a community outreach event hosted by the Symphonic Chorale, and it is a wonderful way to enjoy singing through a work you may know well, or are sight reading with other singers for the first time. Artistic Director Dr. Trent Brown will lead all singers in a rehearsal of excerpts from the oratorio, and then Elijah will be presented to the audience , complete with chorus, soloists, and The Chorale’s talented accompanist, Abbey Allison on the piano. Singing the role of Elijah is popular Miami-based baritone Graham Fandrei. The main character in the oratorio is Elijah, a prophet of God and one of the most colorful figures in the Bible. He is both a miracle worker and a heroic figure. Felix Mendelssohn, a German composer who lived during the Romantic period, was transfixed by the strength of Elijah and wrote his oratorio based on some of Elijah’s miracles, includ-

ing a tremendous storm to end a devastating drought. Elijah’s story is one of faith in God, and Mendelssohn’s stirring music brings Elijah to life. "We are very excited to be doing Summer Sing at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center for the first time and that Graham Fandrei will be performing the role of Elijah,” said chorale conductor Trent Brown. “We had over 90 singers join us for Summer Sing last year and this year we want to add to that number and now there’s enough space for an audience, as well!” Summer Sing is quickly becoming an end-ofsummer event that is highly anticipated by area singers. Nate Currin, Sally Barris, Ellen Bukstel AMERICANA COMMUNITY MUSIC ASSOCIATION

The Americana Community Music Association welcomes Nate Currin to the Fort Myers listening room stage on Aug. 5. With over 400,000 miles and 600 shows logged the last 10 years, Nate Currin is a troubadour in every sense of the word. Originally from Georgia, Nate has enough of the south in his voice and writing that it shines through, but not without the influence of various experiences and places that only come from living the life of a rambling man. Having traveled to over 20 countries, performed with notable acts like Blues Traveler, Butch Walker, Jars of Clay and Neon Trees, and been featured on MTV he retains his enigmatic drive to fly under the radar from time to time. Currin is chasing after the genuine human connection, one fan and one song at a time. After Nate Currin being nominated for an Independent Music Award and 4 International Music Awards for his third studio album You and I are Ghosts in 2014, which made it as high as #16 on the iTunes charts, Nate took home three of those music awards, including Songwriter of the Year. Most recently Nate was nominated for a Georgia Music Award for Americana Artist of the Year while finishing up his newest album The Madman and The Poet, which came out in April of this year. Since then,Nate has been on the road already performing over 60 shows in 37 states in support of the new album. Ken Hulme will open for Nate Currin. Ken Hulme has been building and playing traditional mountain dulcimers for some forty years, and one of these days he'll get it right. He had to built his first dulcimer so he could learn to play it. Over the years, Ken has built some 300 dulcimers both here and overseas, and is responsible for introducing the instrument to the people of the Marshall Islands as an easier-tolearn-to-play alternative to the ukulele. Ken is a founding member of EverythingDulcimer.com, the oldest Internet dulcimer forum, a frequent contributor to the Friends of the Mountain Dulcimer forum, and has been involved in dulcimer clubs in several states. He is recognized as a major proponent of the traditional Noter & Drone style of playing. ACT Gallery features Tonya Bautista-Barnes, four generations of artists

This month, ACT Gallery will feature Tonya Bautista-Barnes, a photographer, artist and costume designer, in the main gallery. In the White Gallery, Four Generations of Artists – The Family of Celia Malloy. Also showing, new works from the gallery’s co-op artists. Free Warrior Designs brand was originally born on the Big Island of Hawaii. Tonya BautistaBarnes always loved the splendid look of natural materials like bone, feather, metal, leather and stone. Growing up islander and looking toward her Marianist heritage for inspiration, gave Tonya Bautista-Barnes much creativity and room for growth. Her love for the bright macaw feathers with the neutral tones of the bone and leather gave her the inspiration to create. All of Tonya’s designs are 100% handmade by her and are inspired by the bright colors and natural materials of the earth, air and sea. I photograph them as I see them and how they wish to see themselves. Each person I photograph has endured hardships and flourished – proving their strength and determination to RISE. Every woman is a Warrior and should be respected as such. "The true warrior isn’t immune to fear. She fights in spite of it." ~ anonymous (but I'm positive she was a strong woman),” states Tonya. An energetic vibe radiates throughout this multi-generational exhibit of visual art in the White Gallery, as engaging and diverse as the women who created it. Spanning approximately a half century, this eclectic, yet connected body of work is impressive as it represents varied artistic styles and content. Celia Baiada Malloy, the 97 year old family matriarch is the main focus of this exhibit. Celia's formative time was spent in the Philadelphia Metro area, and her training of many years ago, is beautifully reflected in unique and elegant acrylics. Daughters Lynne Van Sciver, Taire Malloy and Donna Malloy, share their mother's interest, along with granddaughter,

Cavan Guenther, and great granddaughters, Julia and Scarlett Novak and Stella Guenther. Their collective works both contrast and respond to the familial influence. Lynne's abstract expressionistic style, infused with balance and freedom, has been influenced by training as a psychologist. Taire's charcoal life drawings display a subtle organic style and exude a feeling of calm movement. She studied art at Arizona State, and remains involved with the visual arts in the role of festival director of Art Fest Naples. Donna Kay echoes her mother and grandmother's love of birds which culminated in the publication of Donna's children's book: "Criss Crow, Flying on Sunshine." Donna earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from the International Academy of Design and Technology, Tampa. Cavan, Lynne's daughter, is a former science teacher. She is an accomplished abstract artist and rusticglam jewelry designer. Her art is a mixture of earth, energy and vintage objects. This delightful exhibition tells the story of connectedness found in art, that flows through generations, moving through time, taking on an exquisite life of its own. These exhibits continue through Aug. 28. ACT Gallery is located at 2265 First St., Fort Myers.

Textures, Tones and Textiles exhibit at Davis Art Center

The Textures, Tones and Textiles exhibit at the Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center features artists Gina Battle, Kathy Wood, Donna Valenti, Lesley Morrow, Nick Masiello, Dharma LeFevre, Janie Duke and Michael Pinckney,. Textures, Tones and Textiles will demonstrate how art is an essential asset in the tapestry of our society. Experience the synergy of the strong textures and rhythmic tones used to explore their personal experiences. An opening reception will be held Friday, Aug. 4 in conjunction with Fort Myers Art Walk from 6 to 10 p.m. A special performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. The exhibit closes Aug. 22. The evening will include a special guest vocal performance by the internationally acclaimed tenor singer, Maurice LoMonaco. Gina Battle will integrate dance with her dance partner, Punta Gorda City Councilman Jaha Cummings. Gina Battle is a self-taught contemporary, expressionist, abstract artist. Battle’s work stems from raw emotion that she releases every ounce of her spirit into her creative endeavors. Most recently, she volunteered her time and energy toward helping to raise funds for the Charlotte Arts & Humanities Council of Charlotte County as a dancer for Dancing with the Charlotte Stars. She helped raise over $68,000 for 2016. Battle is also a Charlotte Arts & Humanities board member and the host of radio talk show “I’m Me.” Kathy Wood is a mixed media artist producing functional art. In spite of the increasing technologically driven world, Kathy has a passion to save old photographs and postcards from the old world as she creates a vintage look and feel to her journals, and encourages others to step back, slow down, and put pen to paper. From the look of yellowing edges, to the water damage spots, Kathy incorporates these vintage aspects into her journals. Additionally, she incorporates pieces of original ephemera of forgotten letters and postcards from loved ones during an era when beautiful penmanship, a lost form of art within itself, are placed within the pages. Janie Duke specializes in Pate de Verre, a unique French approach style of glass making created in the 19th century. It allows for subtle gradations of color, possible with no other glass working technique. The results are both fragile and delicate to the eye, yet as durable as any other piece Janie has made. As

an emerging artist, Janie thrives on her unique Florida surrounding for her inspiration. Her studio atmosphere allows for experimenting with various glass designs and techniques. She says her favorite part of glass making is the anticipation of opening her kiln after what seems painstakingly long hours, sometimes up to 18 hours to get her first glimpse of her creations. Donna Valenti’s professional career spans many years in network television production. She spent many years at networks like CBS, NBC, ABC and worked as a Knicks and Rangers pre and post game video editor at Madison Square Garden for 15 seasons. Along the way, she met many talented people who were more than happy to share their knowledge and passion for photography with her. This year, her work has been shown at Dejavu Gallery in NYC, among many others. Lesley Morrow brings the feminine experience to life through her unique art. Residing in SW Florida, she is an artist and mother. Her works have been showcased in several galleries

and shows including the Arts For Act Gallery in Fort Myers. Lesley won the first ever Naples Charity Register Front Cover Contest, and had her winning submission featured as the front cover of their 2014-2015 magazine. Lesley’s art elicits emotion and thought, and is deeply personal and provocative. Nick Masiello is a painter, sculptor and street artist. Working mainly with aerosol, acrylics, ink, silicone, metal, found objects, recycled material, and photography, he creates abstract landscapes, portraits, sculptures, graffiti, and written word pieces that reflect the current issues in the world. Such topics include equal human rights, social class inequalities, war and violence in other nations, economic and political unrest, our interaction with the earth, life and death, dream states, and our human connection to the universe. For local self taught, eclectic artist Dharma Lefevre, mythology and folklore have always been a source of inspiration. She uses her art as an exploration of ancient lore and how it personally connects with modern man through circular lessons. Her background in art began with a love of fantasy and fairy tale illustration. She took a hiatus from art for over 25 years. Then, decided that art was that one thing that was missing from her life, and taught herself how to paint. Dharma has been featured in local solo and group shows in Southwest Florida galleries and businesses, and has also gifted her creations for charity events for Pace Center for Girls, Blue Crayonz and Arts for ACT. Singular Fashion, Michael Pinckney’s current musical venture, provides cross correlations with his visual side, including experimental video (We See it Now) co-directed and produced with Cinematographer James Mills. It is only inevitable that Michael Pinckney explore various mediums, trust his instincts and simply, express; forming pieces that weave through the realms of interior/exterior design, such as Modern Urban Elegance. Singular Fashion is about to release Rendezvous, an EP following the syndicate’s debut release Grey Area (previously released on World Wide Vibe) which will also be re-released in the coming months. Currently based in SWFL, Pinckney also has creative allegiances with Villa Paula (curated by Martin Suskind and Joe Chirichigno) and Mind-Warehouse (curated by Winsome Bolt) both located in Miami. The Naples Depot Museum presents the Collier County Museum’s staff curated Sites & Scenes: Collier County’s Historic Places exhibition, which will be on display from Aug. 3 to Oct. 28. Guns and Hoses Pipes and Drums

Residents who attended First Celebrates Freedom at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Fort Myers July 6 opened their hearts and their wallets by contributing food and money to benefit The Soup Kitchen operated by Community Cooperative. More than 400 people attended the patriotic performance, sponsored by the Galloway Family of Dealerships, and brought 750 pounds of food. The popular event featured a bagpipes and drums opening by Lee County Guns and Hoses Pipe and Drums, followed by 90 minutes of songs by the Freedom Choir and sing-alongs by the audience. A highlight was a rendition of “God Bless the U.S.A.” by the Gulf Coast Harmonizers along with performances by pianist Barbara Peterson, organist Randy Woods, choral direc-

tor Rev. Roger Peterson, soloists Michael Broyles, Paula Moore and Linda Digman, and the First Presbyterian Church Choir and friends. First Celebrates Freedom is the second of three hymn sings sponsored annually by the Galloway Family of Dealerships. The other two are Mrs. Edison’s Hymn Sing in February and the very popular Christmas Carol Sing coming Dec. 5. All three events benefit The Soup Kitchen of Community Cooperative, which was started by First Presbyterian Church along with other downtown churches in 1984 to help alleviate hunger and suffering in Lee County. Community Cooperative to hold annual Becoming Cosmopolitan: Fire & Ice Oct. 5 at Davis Art Center

Community Cooperative has announced that the 12th annual Becoming Cosmopolitan event will take place Thursday, Oct. 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. This year’s event will feature the theme, Fire & Ice and will be held at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in the Fort Myers River District. “We are so thrilled to be bringing Becoming Cosmopolitan back to the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, truly one of the most beautiful buildings in Fort Myers.” said Tracey Galloway, CEO of Community Cooperative. “And we are so excited about our new theme: Fire & Ice,” she added. “Add in great cuisine, cool cocktails, and hot dance music, all in support of a great cause, and you’ve got what Becoming Cosmopolitan is all about.” The evening features shopping with local vendors, gourmet cuisine and cocktails, sinfully delicious desserts, a silent and live auction, exciting raffles, great music and an after party all in celebration of the cosmopolitan lifestyle in Southwest Florida. Over 300 guests attended last fall’s Becoming Cosmopolitan event. “Each year we have been able to make this event bigger and better than ever,”

said Charlotte Miller, Florida Power & Light area manager & external affairs and Community Cooperative Board member. “The monies raised will go a remarkably long way in helping Community Cooperative assist the growing number of women and children who are in need of food, shelter, and other social services.” Sponsorships are now available and range from $1,500 to $10,000. Donations for the event’s silent and live auctions, and Key To The Closet raffle are also being accepted. Tickets will go on sale in midAugust.
