Theeventwillkickoffhonoring SouthwestFloridaveterans,followedbyaStar-SpangledSalute withTheVeniceSymphonyJazz Orchestra.The17-pieceorchestra ledbymusicaldirectorPeter Barenbregge,willperformpatriotic hits;followedbyaspectacularfireworkshowat9:30p.m.

Thisworkwascommissioned byFortMyersCommunity RedevelopmentAgencyandit intendstopayhomagetothe leadershipofthewomenthat haveservedtheDunbarcommunity.It’sacollaborationwiththe city’spublicartcommitteeand theLeeCountyBlackHistory Society.

JourneyofHopeisafree-standingsculpture,composedoftwomain pieces,oneistheprofileofan AfricanAmericanwomanlookingup withyearninganddeterminationin hereyesasawaytosymbolize hopeanddreamsofabetterfuture. Thesecondsculptureisinspiredby asunburstthatsymbolizesthe arrivalofanewdaywherejustice, equalityandfreedomwillprevail.
