Thisworkwascommissioned byFortMyersCommunity RedevelopmentAgencyandit intendstopayhomagetothe leadershipofthewomenthat haveservedtheDunbarcommunity.It’sacollaborationwiththe city’spublicartcommitteeand theLeeCountyBlackHistory Society.

JourneyofHopeisafree-standingsculpture,composedoftwomain pieces,oneistheprofileofan AfricanAmericanwomanlookingup withyearninganddeterminationin hereyesasawaytosymbolize hopeanddreamsofabetterfuture. Thesecondsculptureisinspiredby asunburstthatsymbolizesthe arrivalofanewdaywherejustice, equalityandfreedomwillprevail.
