This rocking musical is a cult classic. Crazy characters inhabit this humorous and provocative tribute to the cheesy science fiction and horror B movie genre. The story follows the innocent and newly-engaged Brad and Janet as they get caught in a storm and find themselves at the mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter and his motley misfits who are anything but innocent. Jasmine Vizena will be playing Janet Weiss, the musical’s nominated “good-girl.” Vizena has been seen on the TNP stage belting tunes in Annie, and Shout! The Mod Musical, and played the role of Cecily in The Importance of Being Earnest. Jesse Hughes as Brad, Mark Vanagas as Dr. Frank-n-Further and Brad Majors, Janet’s fiance and the play’s wholesome Jasmine Vizena as Janet in The Naples Palyers production of boy next door, will be portrayed by Jesse Hughes. Of Thee I Sing on stage Oct. 6 - 9 TheatreZone and FGCU

TheatreZone opens its 2016 season with George and Ira Gershwin's Of Thee I Sing, the uproarious 1931 satire of love and politics. “Bringing this show to the Southwest Florida concert stage is a great privilege,” says TheatreZone artistic director Mark Danni. “To start work on a production that has stamped itself firmly as one of the great shows in the history of musical theatre and perform this rarely-heard work from one of America’s most important composer and lyricist is exciting,” he adds. Of Thee I Sing will be directed and conducted by Danni, reimagined as a live fully staged, concert experience with four professional singer-actors, a choir of 11 and an eight-piece orchestra. “TheatreZone’s continuing association with FGCU Bower School of Music & the Arts is one which sees us honing in on another timeless classic of musical -- a satirical look at American politics features a score of recognizable songs including "Who Cares” and “Of Thee I Sing,” explains Danni. With book by George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind, music by George Gershwin and Lyrics by Ira Gershwin, Of Thee I Sing won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1932, making it the first musical ever to do so. The cast is led by TheatreZone favorite and FGCU professor Gerritt Vandermeer starring as John P.

Wintergreen, the brain-dead but love-struck National Party's candidate for president of the United States; a charmingly pert soprano Kellie Cullinan as his secretary turned first lady; a sultry Kayley Stephens as the outraged Southern belle Diane Cullinan Devereaux who sashays in and out, and the priceless Wayne Morton as the invisible man otherwise known as vice president Alexander Throttlebottom where Morton will display his gift for comic characterization. The everlasting humor of George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind’s book, combined with the sparkling melodies of George Gershwin and the witty quipster lyrics of his brother Ira make this good-natured trivialization of the presidency, Congress and the Supreme Court far more timely today than in the 1930s believes Danni. The show opened on Broadway in 1931, and was the first Broadway musical to win a Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play opens in an election year, as the National Party campaigns for their presidential nominee, John P. Wintergreen, running on a platform based on love. The score includes "Love is

Broadway Showstoppers Revue at Cultural Park Theatre in Cape Coral

By Michael Moran Showstoppers Broadway Revue opens at the Cultural Park Theatre Sept. 30 and will run through Oct. 9. The format was created by yours truly eight years ago, and it has grown over the years to become our patrons favorite revue of our season. Featuring some of Broadway’s famous showstopper songs from the past to the present, our cast, some of the finest performers of Lee County, will sing and dance their way into the hearts of their audiences. The music, meticulously and professionally directed by Tyler Omundsen, will delight your ears. On a special note to our theatre patrons: Showstoppers is the second production of our 2016-2017 season that has been generously sponsored by the Culliton Gunterberg Charitable Foundation. If you like Broadway music, as I do, then this dynamic showcase of music from some of the finest musical classics of America’s Great White Way will be an evening you will thoroughly enjoy and won’t forget. The evening performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. with two matinee performances on Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m. Ticket prices are adults $19, seniors $17 and students $13. For special group prices, please call the box office for more information. Also on stage in October, we welcome back the wonderful comedy and

music of the one and only tribute to Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. For a night of laughter, great music and nostalgia, Cultural Park Theatre’s Martin and Lewis Tribute Show will take you on a trip down memory lane. The show pays tribute to the world's most beloved musical/comedy duo of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis were the hottest act in America during the early '50s. Dean Martin was the straight man and Jerry Lewis added the comedy. This is a show in a class all its own. Never have two artists captured the very essence and chemistry of the celebrities they perform as have Tyler Omundsen and Louis Monaco. These two incredible performers have each had success on their own, yet add both of their talent together and you’re in for one wonderful performance. They will make you feel like you have transported back to the Copa. This is indeed a comedy show for the entire family. People watching rehearsal have said that, “It’s like watching a movie of Dean & Jerry at a casino in Vegas. They not only look and sound exactly like Martin & Lewis, but they "nail" the characters with the stand up, gags, and songs too!” This first performance of our concert series will be on stage Oct. 14,15 and 16 with four performances only with a ticket price $20. I suggest you begin to plan to get your tickets for these productions soon. Call the box office at 239–772–5862. Lab Theater opens The Best Man Oct. 7 on Fort Myers stage

This election season, Lab Theater audiences will decide “Who is the best man?” During the 1960 presidential primary, two imperfect candidates are vying for their party's nomination, as well as the current president's endorsement. The first believes he is honest and ethical, while the second will do whatever it takes to win. Then there's the ex-president, who would rather see these two battle it out, in spite of the skeletons each has in his closet. “There’s a reason this hit play was nominated for six Tony Awards,” says artistic director Annette Trossbach. “The writing offers some wonderful insight into how much and how little has changed in how America chooses its commander-inchief, not to mention a charming if not manipulative outgoing President Hockstader, an overbearing head of the women’s caucus, and a host of other well-drawn characters.” The Laboratory Theater of Florida’s production is directed by Rick Sebastian. “Set in the heat of the convention, it is a study of how the most important position in America was fought for before the present age of electronic media! We see in this play what happens in the back rooms as policies are made and leaders rise to the top,” he said. Sebastian previously directed The Underpants by Steve Martin for the Lab Theater. The Best Man stars Paul Graffy (Stage Kiss), John Repa (Twelfth Night), Michael Hennessey (Glengarry Glen Ross), Joann

Haley (Agnes of God), Gerrie Benzing (Miss Witherspoon), Nancy Antonio (The House of Yes), Scott Carpenter (Art), Jack Weld (Stage Kiss), Bill Allenfort, John Coriell, Suzanne Davies (Calendar Girls), Mike Dinko (An Empty Plate in the Cafe du Grand Boeuf), and Lexie Anne Cole. The Best Man is on stage at The Laboratory Theater of Florida on Thursdays through Sundays, Oct. 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29 at 8 p.m., and on Oct 9, 16, 23 and 29 at 2 p.m. All tickets are available online at www.LaboratoryTheaterFlorida.com and by calling 239-218-0481. The Best Man is partially sponsored by JJ Cochrane. Individual show tickets are $25 for adults and $12 and for students at the door. The Nerd opens Oct. 6 at Off Broadway Palm

The Off Broadway Palm Theatre presents The Nerd playing Oct. 6 through Nov. 12. The Nerd is a hilarious comedy written by American actor/playwright Larry Shue. It was the highest grossing American play in London’s West End in 1986 and played on Broadway in the late 1990s. Throughout the years, the two exchanged letters and in those, Willum promised Rick that he would be there for him anytime. To Willum’s delight, Rick shows up for a surprise visit, but turns out to be a hopeless “nerd” – a bumbling oaf with no social sense, little intelligence and even less tact. To make matters worse, Rick overstays his welcome and his continued presence among Willum and his friends leads to one uproarious incident Putnam after another. Directing The Nerd is former Southwest Florida resident Rachael Endrizzi. Appearing as Willum is Alexander Mrazek and appearing as Rick is James Putnam; both making their debuts with Broadway Palm. The Taming opens Oct. 14 at Foulds Theatre in Ft. Myers

Theatre Conspiracy and the Alliance for the Arts continue their 2016-17 season in October with the presentation of The Taming. This year's election is one for the ages! However, it has nothing on The Taming, a comedy by Lauren Gunderson opening Oct. 14. The show is a crackling modern farce that serves up a heaping dish of good ole Southern fried politics. The Taming hilariously takes on America’s overheated political rhetoric, with some surprising truths about our founding fathers, and the passions of three slightly insane women who just might be revolutionary geniuses. The Taming will be performed Oct. 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. The winner of the New Play Contest will be announced at the annual fundraiser on Nov. 19. This year, they received over 600 entries from across the United States, Canada and Europe. The new play contest winner will be presented in May of 2017. Individual tickets to each show are $24 or $11 for students with proper ID. Season subscription packages are also available. Buy seven shows for $133 ($19 per ticket) or six shows for $120 ($20 a ticket) or five shows for $110 ($22 per ticket). SoCo Second Saturday event launches Oct. 8

The new SoCo Second Saturday event, organized by the cultural venues committee of the SoCo Cultural District kicks off Saturday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. SoCo stands for South of Colonial, referring to Colonial Boulevard, which is one of the primary veins of our city, connecting with the Memorial Bridge. This monthly event will attract attention to a renewed area of our city, where a number of cultural venues have found each other and joined forces. Starting with the very popular Broadway Palm Dinner Theater, located in the Royal Palm Square; to the Lee County’s Alliance for the Arts, DAAS CoOp Art Gallery & Gifts, the Union Artist Studios, the Gittleman Studios and Yoga Bird, whose proximity to each other allow for a walk or ride evening jamboree. Other studios and stores have joined in to bring an even better experience for all the patrons of the arts in attendance. The organizers are also looking for more vendors to sell their handmade products during the event. An application is available on the official event website. The SoCo Second Saturday is designed to be a monthly, rain or shine event. All participating stops or Cultural Venues will host a variety of activities for the

attendees, ranging from opening receptions with artists talks, performances, special sales, artist demos and much more. Some of the highlights of the night include DAAS Co-Op Art Gallery & Gifts’ Plein-Air participant exhibition, talk by organizer Amanda Plummer and the selection of the best in show; who will be awarded a solo show at the gallery in March 2017. The Yoga Bird, which has become one of Fort Myers’ most popular yoga studios, will host the art of Patrick Williams for the night. In addition, the Ocasiocasa Studio, located in the Art Loft of the Alliance for the Arts, will feature works created by Jeff and Dale Ocasio. For a complete list of all the activities for the night, please visit socoswfl.com. There is also a map detailing the area and their respective locations. SoCo Second Saturday and the SoCo Cultural District is the brainchild of visual artist and gallery owner David Acevedo, who is among the cofounders of the Fort Myers Art Walk. With support from other leaders in the community, such as Lydia Black from the Alliance for the Arts, Chip and Anna Withrow from Yoga Bird, David Gittleman from

Gittleman Studios, Jeffrey Scott Lewis from the Union Artist Studios, Melissa Vogt and Will Prather from the Broadway Palm Dinner Theater and Massage Therapist Frank Jean, a committee was founded and plans were put in place for the establishment of the event. “The potential for this area [of the SoCo Cultural District] to grow into the new arts and culture district of Fort Myers is evident to me.” – says Acevedo, who opened DAAS Co-Op Art Gallery & Gifts earlier this year. “Having the Alliance the Broadway Palm and so many other important artistic venues nearby, it was only logical to come up with a way to unite and conquer,” – comments the artist, who recently won a FACE Award for his achievements in cultural diversity within the city. All arts and culture patrons, art collectors, performance enthusiasts and anyone looking to spend a night full of family fun is invited to make history, starting at 5 p.m. on Oct. 8. Parking is available in the Royal Palm Square and in the Alliance for the Arts campus. A printed map and guide will be available at all the participating Cultural Venues. Online access for portable devices is available at www.socoswfl.com.

Harbour View Gallery in Cape Coral will welcome featured artists Jean Rebholtz (acrylics and watercolors) and Jim Ellsworth (wood turning) at a reception on Tuesday, Oct. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. Currently Jean Rebholtz resides in Cape Coral. Born in Worcester, Mass., and after many cold winters, Jean decided to move to Miami where she began her art career in 1993. She began studying with the famous Chinese brush painters, Mr. & Mrs. Chow. Over the next several years. she dedicated herself to this strict, unusual way of painting. The ancient method of Chinese Brush painting is to learn to apply layers of graduating color that is applied with one brush, one stroke, one time, on delicate rice paper. After several years of study, Jean decided to combine her technique with traditional watercolor and acrylic painting and discovered that beautiful artwork could be brought to life when combining these methods. She is past president of The Florida Professional Artists’ Guild, a position she held for several years, and is a member of the Grove House Artists in Coconut Grove. Jim Ellsworth, a retired banking executive, college professor and community leader from northwest Indiana, began his wood turning in 2004.

Jim Ellsworth

Learning basic skills of woodworking in a high school shop class, led Jim to pursue furniture making as one of his hobbies during his working career. Upon retirement to Florida he began looking for other woodworking opportunities and ultimately chose wood turning as an outlet for his creative energy. Jean Rebholtz Initially self taught, Jim quickly began honing his skills by attending classes led by nationally-recognized wood turners at the John C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina and the Arrowmont School for the Arts in Tennessee. Additionally, Jim has traveled from coast to coast attending seminars and symposiums on an array of wood turning topics and techniques. Jim has won a number of awards in recent years for his turnings exhibited at various juried art and turning expositions. While continuing to produce pieces in a wide range of turning styles he is now chiefly specializing in the art of segmented turnings. Jim is a member of the Peace River Wood Turners, serving as its president for 2016 and 2017 and previously for 2012-13; The American Association of Wood Turners and The Association of Segmented Wood Turners. Their work will be on display through October. The gallery is located at 5789 Cape Harbour Drive, Cape Coral.

Flying in directly from Germany this year are not one, but two bands, the big band – the Bodensee Perlen from the Lake Constance area and the Aichers, a threeman band from Berg, Germany, also near Lake Constance in the southwestern part of the country. Also featured this year is Europaband from Orlando, who play a very wide variety of music and songs from old

Aichers Buren German polkas and sing alongs. New this year is the addition of Stringtown, a popular local blues, country and jazz band. Visitors can also enjoy the other musical acts, watch the exuberant dancers of Kellyn Celtic Arts Irish Dance Academy, admire all of the colorful Dirndls the women are wearing, or the Lederhosen and hats the men have. And you'll meet the Ms. Oktoberfest 2016, the very lovely Scarlett Conrad from Maintal, Germany. The music never stops in the big tent, with stages on each end of the giant dance floor. The Bavarian Gardens also feature non-stop music, from Blues to Polka not only from Swingtown, Europaband, Hafenkapelle, but also from other club favorites, such as Peter Dee, the Manni Daum Trio and Peter & Edith. Enjoy a bratwurst from the Rheinhaus, some potato pancakes, Schweinshaxe from the Alpiner Haus, freshly made Schnitten (sandwiches) from the Black Forest Haus, or any of the other delicacies offered by the many international vendors. Or, enjoy a sitdown dinner in the Von Steuben Hall, where you can savor German/Austrian cuisine, such as Schnitzel, Sauerbraten and freshly baked Apfel Strudel.

ACMA welcomes Rod MacDonald, Twin Kennedy

The American Community Music Association (ACMA) has another great month of original music lined up for October. You are not going to want to miss a show. Rod MacDonald will perform on Saturday, Oct. 8. Joe Virga will open the show. Rod MacDonald is an American singersongwriter, novelist and educator. He was a big part of the 1980s folk revival in Greenwich Village clubs, performing at the Speakeasy, The Bottom Line, Folk City and the Songwriter's Exchange at the Cornelia Street Cafe for many years. He co-founded the Greenwich Village Folk Festival. He is perhaps best known for his songs "American Jerusalem," about the "contrast between the rich and the poor in Manhattan" (Sing Out!), "A Sailor's Prayer," "Coming of the Snow," "Every Living Thing," and "My Neighbors in Delray," a description of the Sept. 11 hijackers' last days in Delray Beach, where MacDonald has lived since 1995. His 1985 recording "White Buffalo" is dedicated to Lakota Sioux ceremonial chief and healer Frank Fools Crow, whom he visited in 1981 and 1985, and who appears with MacDonald in the cover photograph. Since 1995, MacDonald has lived in South Florida, where his CD, "Later that Night" was named "Best Local Cd of 2014" by The Palm Beach Post and reached the top ten in national folk music charts. His first novel, The Open Mike, about a young man in the open mike scene of Greenwich Village, was published on December 5, 2014, by Archway Publishing MacDonald has released 11 solo recordings on several record labels in the U.S., eight in Europe on the Swiss label Brambus, and 21 songs with Smithsonian Folkways (through the

36

OCTOBER 2016

Fast Folk Musical Magazine), and appears as lead singer of Big Brass Bed, a Palm Beach County rock and roll band, on 3 CDs of Bob Dylan songs and originals. MacDonald has appeared on stage with fellow artists, including Pete Seeger, Peter Yarrow, Odetta, Tom Paxton, the Violent Femmes, Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin, Dave Van Ronk, Emmylou Harris, Richie Havens, Ani DiFranco, Tom Chapin, Jack Hardy and David Massengill. He has performed at festivals in Philadelphia, Winnipeg, Florida, South Florida, Riverhawk, Boston, Kerrville, Greenwich Village, Falcon Ridge, New Bedford Summerfest, Port Fairy (Australia) and Trowbridge (UK), and on the radio program Mountain Stage. He was reportedly the first American singer to tour the newly independent Czech Republic in 1991, and has made 35 tours in Europe since 1985, nearly all of them with NYC bassist Mark Dann. Joe Virga has been performing as a singersongwriter for over 40 years. His unique chord structure melodies, poignant words and distinct tenor have set him apart in the Florida Folk community. Joe Virga Learned to play Guitar while serving his country on a helicopter carrier during the Vietnam war. Upon his return he began playing in the Greenwich Village at the legendary Folk City (Gurdies). He learned about the music cooperative while there and became a member. The co-op became a mecca for the second folk music scene in New York City. Its membership included such performers as Susan Vega, Rod McDonald, Michelle Shocked, Christine Laven, John Gorka, Cliff Eberhart, David Roth, Dave VonRonk, Hugh Blumenfeld and Mark Dan. Joe

Rod MacDonald is a writer and guitar player and a great lead and background vocalist. The ACMA will present the homegrown sounds of Peggy & Emery Williams , The Doctor & Dave on Saturday, Oct. 15. The easy listening sounds of the husband and wife team of Emery and Peggy Williams can best be described as “Contemporary Coffee House/Wine Bar,” a little folky and a little smokey. Peggy's gentle guitar style and soothing voice along with Emery's endless array of percussion sounds and harmonica interludes provide especially memorable "homegrown sounds." Dr.Val & Dave began singing together six years ago, and found their voices worked together to form unusual harmonies that seemed to twine and blossom as they continued to hone their musical union. Dave ‘s song across many genres, and his greatest influences have been Gene Pitney, Elvis Costello, The Beatles, Dylan, and Herb Eimerman of the Britanicas. Val is classically trained, although she was also influenced by Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, and Anita Baker, among others. Val & David married in 2010. Now they collaborate on songs Dave has written, creating new versions, as well as new songs, that combine their musical passion and skill. Twin Kennedy will perform Oct. 22 on the ACMA stage in Fort Myers. Their musical bond is as strong as their small town roots – Twin Kennedy, comprised of West Coast sisters Carli and Julie Kennedy, have been making music together since they could talk. Born and raised in the small town of Powell River, Twin Kennedy grew up perfecting their sibling harmonies and dynamic live performances, while making their name known throughout their small community as a family band. Growing up in such a musically infused family, it is no wonder that these sisters crafted their sound through a unique fusion of their background in country, folk, jazz and classical music. With years of classical training, including their bachelor’s degrees in music performance from the University of Victoria, the sisters have found their home in country music. With Carli on vocals and guitar, and Julie on vocals and violin, these petite powerhouses will fill your soul with joy and warmth through their seamless harmonies and heartfelt songwriting. With two EPs in their back pocket as Carli & Julie Kennedy, these sisters came into 2015 making a splash in the Canadian country music scene, releasing their debut LP as Twin Kennedy, which earned a Western Canadian Music Award nomination for Producer of the Year. Produced by multiple CCMA and JUNO award winning artist George Canyon and renowned West Coast producer Graham Sharkey, It’s a Love Thing is a beautifully hon-

Twin Kennedy est account of the ebb and flow of the navigation through love and life. From the uplifting opening track “Get Back Up Again” to the heartbreaking vulnerability of “That’s What I Should Have Said” Twin Kennedy has compiled a track listing that is self-described as a true extension of themselves. Their latest single, “Secondhand Gold” has already been recognized as the Grand Prize Award winner in the country category of the 2015 John Lennon Songwriting Contest and the 2016 Lennon Award winner. Opening for Twin Kennedy will be Bill Fields. Bill is a local singer songwriter for the Cainfields band, who currently have three CDs and are working on a fourth. He writes in an uplifting northern California style. His writing and singing are very eclectic including westerns of the Southwest, blues, jazz, rock, folk, and meditation. Often his music comes from a place of peace and love with thoughts of flowing rivers, mountains, and life's journeys. His song “Mother Nature” was chosen to represent the Charlotte Harbor estuary. The ACMA welcomes Patchouli & Terra Guitarra on Saturday, Oct. 29. Patchouli and Terra Guitarra is master guitarist Bruce Hecksel and singer-songwriter and guitarist Julie Patchouli. ZMR calls Terra Guitarra “one of the top neuvo-flamenco groups in the world,”,with a #1 and two top 5 internationally charting albums and multiple “Album of the Year” nominations. Patchouli is a folk festival headliner and public radio favorite with pure, haunting lead vocals and beautiful harmonies. Their sound, depth and virtuosity is described as “Simon and Garfunkel meets the Gipsy Kings” and “taking a yoga class in a field of running mustangs." Their soulful fusion of blazing Spanish and world guitar instrumentals, spine tingling vocal harmonies, and epic folk rock anthems are infused with a visible on stage chemistry. Opening for Patchouli is local songwriter Andy Getch. Andy Getch is mainly self-taught with a lot of digging through books and listening at open mics, house concerts and concerts. One of his goals are to write approximately 100 songs a year, Andy works hard at his craft while still having fun. We thing you well walk away with one of Andy’s song playing in your head for weeks to come. The ACMA provides a venue for local and touring artists, many are award winning performers in the Americana/Folk community. All shows are in a quiet, intimate setting and every show is a meet and greet with the artists. Be prepared to be impressed by the talent that is available to you all year round for a cost of $10 to $15 donation. The ACMA is a non-sectarian not for profit organization. These concerts are held at All Faiths Congregation located at 2756 McGregor Blvd. in Fort Myers. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and all shows start at 7 p.m. For more information visit www.americana.org.

SAM GALLOWAY CONCERT SERIES

Lonestar, Sawyer Brown to play The Ranch

The Sam Galloway Concert Series continues this fall with a great lineup of national artists performing at The Ranch Concert Hall & Saloon in Fort Myers. In October, The Ranch welcomes Lonestar on Oct. 14 and Sawyer Brown on Oct. 21. Lonestar has always set the bar high, but Never Enders exceeds expectations. “It’s always a challenge,” says Richie as they gather one quiet morning at The Band Cave. “But when we’re writing, we always try to stay true to how we’ve done it in the past sonically and lyrically, while still looking to take what we do to new levels.” The exhilarating affirmations of the title track “Never Enders,” the haunting reflection on time lost in “My Own Hometown,” the emotional honesty of “Us,” their playful, grin- teasing riff on modern love in “I Want a Love” and their tribute to all the gorgeous lady bartenders they’ve known on “Boomerang” — each song on Never Enders mixes artful craft and the poetry of plain speech, each melody rings clear and all of it reminds us of how emotionally powerful country music can be. Advance tickets for Lonestar start at $28. Originally, Sawyer Brown was known for a primarily country pop sound dominated largely by novelty tunes; by 1991, however, the band began to express a more serious side to its music by adding ballads to its repertoire. Sawyer Brown has released 20 studio albums, of which three have been certified gold in the United States for sales of 500,000 copies. More than 50 of their singles have entered the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, including three Number One singles. Advance tickets for Sawyer Brown start at $28. Pop rocker Rick Springfield returns to The Ranch Concert Hall on Sunday, Nov. 6. Known by many for his 1981 No. 1 hit “Jessie’s Girl,” Springfield has also had four other Top 10 hits with "I've Done Everything for You," "Don't Talk to Strangers," "Affair of the Heart" and "Love Somebody." Advance tickets range from $37 to $250 for Rick Springfield’s show on Nov. 6.

Lonestar - Oct. 14 Other shows scheduled for The Ranch Concert Hall include Frankie Ballard Nov. 10, The LACS and Moonshine Bandits Nov. 12, Tyler Farr Nov. 19, Craig Morgan Dec. 2, Chris Lane Dec. 8, Luke Combs Dec. 9, Eli Young Band Dec. 16 and Aaron Lewis Feb. 11. The Sam Galloway concert series was started in the fall of 2014 to help bring awareness to Community Cooperative (The Soup Kitchen) and the good work they do in the community, says Brian Tidwell, general sales manager of Sam Galloway Ford. The concert series features

Sawyer Brown - Oct. 21

Rick Springfield - Nov. 6

Les Stroud at Mann Hall Nov. 4

Les Stroud is a man of many talents, a Renaissance man of sorts. Fans of his wildly popular reality TV series “Survivorman” on the Discovery Channel know him not only for his un-surmountable survival skills and camera work, but also for his killer harmonica riffs showcased in several episodes of the show. Les is a genuine musician and he is about to start the quintessential adventure of his life. From the time he was a teenager, Les has been writing, singing and performing professionally. He has released several independent records and has the chops to back up his musical endeavors as evidenced on his forthcoming project, Survivorman; Mother Earth, featuring the first single and music video “Arctic Mistress.”. Through his travels as Survivorman, Les has been immersed in nature, experiencing first-hand the beauty and perils of Mother Earth. The songs he’s written are testimonies to these personal adventures and now he wants to spread his message of love for the Earth and preserve her greatness for generations to come. The song, “Arctic Mistress”

features Inuit Throat Singing (recorded on an iceberg during the filming of an episode of "Survivorman"), a haunting melody, and poignant lyrics. It calls on the listener to “breathe the Arctic air...” in an attempt to enlighten mankind to stop, listen, and take note of the World around us. Breathe in the message, before it’s too late. Survivorman; Mother Earth embodies all that is Les Stroud, the man and his mission, coming together in the music. “Arctic Mistress” is but a brief glimpse into what is yet to come. Come hear Les Stroud live with his 5-piece band at Barbara B Mann Performing Arts Hall on Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. His show will entertain the audience with music, storytelling, and scenes from his travels. Tickets are available at www.bbmannpah.com or at the box office 239-481-4849. A portion of the shows’ proceeds benefit CREW Land and Water Trust and the Boy Scouts of America. CREW’s mission is to protect the watershed, preserve panther and bear habitats, be a steward of clean water, and provide environmental education to the public. They have protected over 60,000 acres of land spanning Lee and Collier Counties since 1989 that include guided nature-walks, hiking, biking, birding, geocaching, and more. To support the Boy Scouts of America, enter BSA passcode when purchasing tickets at bbmannpah.com. Any proceeds to BSA will go to support their Camp Flying Eagle and Miles operations for a chance to buy a new canoe or two for their camps.

Edison Festival of Light taking applications for 2017 parades

It’s that time again to cover yourself in glittering lights. The Edison Festival of Light has opened up applications for their Junior Parade and Grand Parade on their website www.edisonfestival.org. The 79th annual Grand Parade will sparkle through historic Downtown Fort Myers on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, with the Junior Parade five days before on Feb. 12, 2017. Whether you ride a horse, pull your wagon, or build a tinsel-covered float, they encourage everyone in our community to take part in this historic event. The Edison Festival Grand Parade encompasses organizations, businesses, and neighborhoods who get creative to amble for an audience of more than 200,000 people. This is a fun team-building opportunity! Get everyone in the office or your next door neighbors to help! The Festival prides itself on tradition and togetherness. Also, the Edison Festival appeals to a wide variety of demographics, which makes a perfect platform for the exposure of your organization to a captive audience. For the Junior Parade, you don’t need to have a giant float. The Edison Festival of Light encourages schools, families, nonprofits, troops, and everyone in Southwest

Florida to participate by offering several options to take part. Whether you’re part of a band, you want to walk with your favorite equine, or you have a giant balloon, the Edison Festival aims to incorporate everyone to get creative and shine. Of course, the Edison Festival of Light wouldn’t be complete without, well, light. As homage to the famous inventor, the Edison Festival requires everyone in the Grand Parade to excite spectators by wearing some sort of illumination. Become a part of the action and join a parade route to illuminate, innovate, and celebrate. Visit the website and apply today. Designed to “Illuminate. Innovate. Celebrate.” The Edison Festival of Light, Inc. honors Thomas Alva Edison’s contributions to mankind including Southwest Florida, and seeks to improve the community by education and activities relating to Edison’s works and values. Visit www.edisonfestival.org for more information and become a fan by following us on Facebook (Facebook.com/edisonfestival) and Twitter and Instagram (@edisonfestival). The Edison Festival of Light is a member of the Florida Festivals and Events Association and the International Festivals and Events Association.
