willbedirectingallofthemusicalproductionsalongsidetheindividualtheatrical directorsforeachplay.Guffyhasperformed,directedandmusicallydirected overfiftymusicals.ShehasaBSin musiceducation,amastersinmusic education,andisadoctoralcandidatein musicalarts.Withsuchesteemedcredentials,themusicalsshehelpstodirect aredestinedtobeoutofthisworld.No mattertheexperienceofthedirector, castingshowsisalwaysdifficult,espe-

longpassion.Itwasn'tuntilrelocating toRotondaWest,Floridain2013, thatshewaswellenoughtopursue herdream.

Weworriedaboutourartistfriendswho hadn’tevacuatedandourcharming108year oldbuildingthatheldourbeautifulgallery.We worriedthatthepaintings,sculpturesandjewelrythathadbeenleftwouldbefound destroyed.
Onebyoneweheardthatourartistfriends wereokay.Alloftheirhomeswereflooded anddestroyedbuttheywereokay.
Thedayfinallycamethatsomeonecould gocheckoutthestateofourbeautifulgallery. Thenewswastrulyincredible.TowerGallery wasvirtuallyuntouchedbythestorm.The backdoorwasblownopen.Theairconditionerwasfloodedout.Treesweredown.Our treesculptureinfrontofthegallerywasbent butthebuildingwasintactandourartworkwasvirtually untouched.Ourgallerylived.Miraclesdohappen.

Forthepast15years,SWFloridahas witnessedtheevolutionofPeaceDay thatbeganwithasmallgrassrootscelebrationatJayceeParkinCapeCoral, withafewhundredpeopleattending, andhasgrowntoincludethousandsof peoplewhocomeoutforadayofpeace withourcommunity.
AsPeaceDayexpanded,thevenue haschangedafewtimestosupplymore parkingspaces,asuddennewlocation duetodamagefromHurricaneIrma,and eventofindwaystoconnectandcelebratewhenwecouldn’tgatherinperson duetoCOVID-19.
Lastyear,HurricaneIancausedwide destructioninourarea,andthemost recentvenue,Wa-Ke-HatcheePark,is notyetavailableforevents.
“ArewegoingtolethurricanedamagestopPeaceDay?No,wearenot! Flowingwithchangeispartofbeing alive,andweknowthatpeaceisalive andwellinourcommunity,”saysorganizerZachariVanDyne.
