The Learning Resource Centre Great source of information!

Provides a wide range of print and electronic resources, including books, e-books, newspapers, magazines, journals and DVDs. Your student ID card is also your library card. The centre offers 38 PCs for independent study, as well as printing and photocopying facilities. These resources are also accessible from home via our student learning gateway. The LRC team is here to help you get the best out of the resources and to help you with your study skills. The Learning Resource Centre is open in the evening until 7pm during term time and during the day throughout College holidays.

Students will also carry out historical research relating to fashion trends and cultural differences. You will gain experience by working in a realistic working environment and by attending media productions. This may involve some evening and weekend work.

What do I need? Four GCSEs at Grade C or above ideally, including English and a portfolio of art or creative work. Students over the age of 19 will be considered with no formal qualifications at interview, but must show a keen interest in make-up and the media. Students are expected to show artistic flair and imagination in their research, therefore dedication and an interest in social and fashion history is necessary.

The Foundation Studies Team provide a wide range of learning opportunities for learners of all ages over a range of levels.

Programmes are designed to prepare learners for moving on to further learning, employment or independent living. You will be able to experience a wide range of subject areas, building your knowledge and confidence along the way.

Vocational Studies Entry 3 and Level 1 Vocational Studies are courses designed to give you the skills that employers want, as well as allowing you to try out a number of career options. This programme may suit students who wish to improve their confidence or their basic skills or for those who have not decided which career pathway they want to follow. The programme is made up of two one-year courses and you will be interviewed and advised on which programme will best suit you and your individual requirements.

Then the XLR8 programme could be for you XLR8 is a more flexible programme, with strong support which will give you the opportunity to develop study and personal skills through setting and working towards individual targets. Access Missed out on Higher (university-level) Education? Why not join an Access course? Access courses are designed for students aged 19 and over who have no or few formal qualifications but would like to study at degree level to develop their learning and career options. The courses last for one year full time. This is a level 3 programme and is accepted by colleges and universities for entry on to degree programmes. Attendance times are designed to fit in around the school day and other commitments you may have. Course fees may be waived for students on benefits and there may be funding available to help with travel, childcare and other costs. Students can choose from a wide range of Access pathways to suit their interests and career direction including: • Art & Design • Nursing • Midwifery • Occupational Therapy • Combined Studies – leading to further study at degree level in areas such as Primary Teaching, Social Work, Physiotherapy, Early Years and Paramedic Science. How to apply Who to talk to and how to apply The College has a team of qualified Student Services advisors based at our North Star campus. They are on hand to provide you with any information you may require for any of the courses that we offer and to assist you with your application.

Full time applications The Student Services team processes full time applications and arranges interviews with course tutors. We accept applications all year round. Please contact us if you need any help with your application or if you need to change an interview date. You should receive a letter confirming receipt of your application within seven days of submitting it and will normally receive your first interview date within four weeks of your application reaching us. Step 1

Apply online or complete the application form and send it to: Student Services, Swindon College, North Star Avenue, Swindon SN2 1DY. Alternatively, if you attend a Swindon school, you may be asked to hand in the application form as your school will send it to us on your behalf.

Step 2

We will write to you within four weeks of receiving your application, inviting you to attend an interview. Your parents / carers are welcome to attend with you. Interviews normally start from November for courses starting in September the following year.

Step 3

At the interview you will be given an offer which may be subject to your exam results in August. In some subjects you may be asked to complete an assessment task. If there are other courses that you are interested in, you can tell the tutor at the interview and we will arrange further interviews for you.

Depending on when we receive your application you will be invited in for enrolment either in June or July and you will be enrolled as a Swindon College student. You will be invited to a Welcome Day in early July.

In the middle of August you will receive your exam results and you will need to come to college (with grades if relevant) to finalise your enrolment. Donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t worry if you do not achieve the results you hoped for, come and talk to us anyway, as we offer plenty of alternatives.

Step 6

Your college course will start in September and you will begin your induction programme. This will help to familiarise you with the College, your course tutor and other students on your course.
