Golf Travel Bags
Your ultimate dream “golf holiday” has been booked and you are going to knock off a few points off your handicap and take in some sun, maybe even attain that elusive hole in one. With the impending excitement it is important to remember that golf bags that travel well are an absolute essential today for airline travel. When taking your golf clubs on a plane make sure that you check in with approved airline golf bags, not just for the protection of your golf clubs, but so that your clubs are in fact accepted on the airlines.
Travelling anywhere can create an additional logistical nightmare when you factor in lugging about a golf bag, 14 clubs and 30 golf balls. You may not necessarily need your full set of clubs and taking a half set along can make a whole range of things go so much smoother from carrying clubs around the airport, weight allowance on the plane, to having more room in the car, and of course a lighter bag makes all the difference when you’ll be playing somewhere especially warm.
What to look for in making your golf bag purchase? Well, aside from your clubs, determine if you want space for your tees, golf balls, markers, gloves and shoes. Taking your golf bag on flights can end up saving you valuable space in your suit case or carryon luggage. Golf travel bags come in 3 options. Hard cases, which provide the most protection on a plane, are important to consider as Airlines accept no responsibility for the condition of your clubs when you arrive (think about those baggage handlers). For car travel, a padded soft case will be adequate and take up less space than a hard case. They are easier to store and are much lighter and provide more pockets and organizational storage options. Hybrids are a combination of the 2, with a hard top to protect the clubs. Hybrids can also function as a cart bag when you remove the club helmet. It is best to try carrying and manoeuvring various cases in store in person, as this will help you to determine what you are most comfortable with, especially when it comes to different shoulder straps and carrying handles.
There are many options to suit your needs and pocket, but ideally you want impact resistant tops and sides, wide shoulder straps and handles, full length zippers, reinforced lower panels with rails for extra protection on stairs, and extra wide wheels for rolling golf bags from tee to tarmac. On the matter of wheels, negotiating your way through a busy airport can be tricky, and you will thank yourself later. Your golf travel bag is more than an accessory. It is a factor that can set the tone for your golfing holiday before you even arrive. Choose smart.
GOLF TRAVEL INSURANCE
Travelling to another country certainly entails its own inherent risks which we are all well aware of. Frequent holiday makers know that travel insurance is a non-negotiable necessity. Playing golf on holiday is a whole other insurance ball game so to speak. It is important to make sure that your travel insurance includes golf holiday cover. In fact, standard insurance may not cover you for any loss or damage to your clubs in transit, or for any injuries sustained while playing a round. Getting that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach as you imagine your golf clubs being lost or stolen, on what is supposed to be the best holiday ever? Well there is no need for the ensuing anxiety. Many companies do offer a range of specialist golf holiday insurance packages to suit every budget.
Avoid the tears when your clubs are stolen or lost and more importantly the infuriation when you discover that your travel insurance does not cover you for your loss. There are specialist insurance packages that not only cover you for your loss but even arrange for a replacement set of clubs ensuring that your dream golf holiday does not descend into a nightmare.
Everyone is familiar with the fact that golf, no matter what your playing ability is, can shock you with a completely unexpected wayward tee shot. We have all seen it happen, and we have all gritted our teeth when it’s happened to us. Damaging someone’s property by hitting a house, a car or some other breakable object is no fun at all, but it is always a possibility. It is important to be fully insured against accidental damage. You should not have to pay forever for one golf holiday mishap. The same goes for injury to a third party, however unlikely the occurrence. You could be in a foreign country, and that is a headache best avoided.
One of the really important aspects to take note of is that you can even get insurance for loss of green fees. This means that you will be covered for any pre-paid green fees you have arranged before travelling and may have to cancel due to medical reasons. Many golf holiday packages have pre-paid green fees upfront in the costs.
We do spend the an inordinate amount of time researching the best options available out there for the perfect golf holiday, by spending a few extra minutes considering your “golf insurance”, you protect yourself from any unexpected inconveniences. Remember, your holiday should be about relaxation and bringing home an excellent golf story !
2010 Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix The excitement of Formula 1 motor racing cannot be denied. The roar of engines, the burning rubber, the surge of adrenalin, the anticipation, the passionate fans, so much has gone into the nuts and bolts of a very dynamic racing experience. Factor in a venue that is exotic, that pulsates with energy and innovation, wait for the sun to go down, light up the city street, unleash hungry beasts of metal and you have the world’s only Formula 1 Night race, now hosted for the third time in Singapore. Swingtime Golf Travel could not resist and too was captured by the exhilaration that has been known to attract 70 000 foreign visitors and commanded the viewership of 200 million worldwide. This year was no different. In addition to the track action, race promoter Singapore Grand Prix brought in over 300 music artistes and performers to entertain visitors in the circuit park. Of these included headline acts and performances by Mariah Carey, Missy Elliot, Daughtry, Adam Lambert, Sean Kingston and DJ TIGA. The area around the Singapore Marina Bay Street Circuit also saw a dramatic transformation with the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort (which opened earlier this year) with its distinctive architectural design create a signature skyline in the bay. Not too far away, Resorts World Sentosa with its Universal Studios theme park, which also opened earlier this year, set the tone for eager anticipated thrills. The Float @ Marina Bay
(also known as the Bay Grandstand in the Marina Bay Street Circuit) was the venue for lively opening and closing ceremonies. Every Grand Prix always thrums to the heart beat of the F1 Village. The 2010 Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix certainly added its own flair. The F1 Village presented fans with stimulating Formula 1 manufacturer displays showcasing their latest road cars and racing cars alongside stands and exhibitions of Sponsors. The best souvenirs of the event were official merchandise from all Formula 1 teams, including team jackets, t-shirts, caps and accessories available for purchase and were extremely popular with attendees. Innovation, never far behind came in the form of Kangaroo TV handsets for rent. These enables one to follow the race proceedings all weekend and ensure you did not miss out on anything Day for Night The visually spectacular Singapore Night Race is not without its technical challenges. Overcoming the limitations of high speed racing at night involved a complex lighting set up composed of more than 100km of temporary cabling and 1500 individual lighting units around the circuit perimeter. A logistic tour de force if one considers that the entire set up had to be constructed and dismantled as quickly as possible so as not to disrupt the heart of the city.
The lighting rig, designed in Italy, a technical marvel, created the brightness level associated with daylight racing, without shining light into the eyes of the drivers at any point along the track. Interestingly, the lighting rig, similar to those used in rock concerts, ran along just one side of the track, along with the television cameras, to reduce glare when filming the race. Internal reflectors, individually modified to adapt to the surrounding ambient brightness, were used to achieve consistency of light around the entire circuit. Track marshals usually have just 2 flags to wave, and it is essential that drivers can see them. Consequently, an innovative electronic signboard system known as “digiflag” was developed to work in tandem with the traditional waved flags. Roaring into First! Fernando Alonso in a heart stopping display of driving won the 2010 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL GRAND PRIX for Ferrari. A sold-out Singapore crowd saw Alonso battle to keep the fast-starting Sebastian Vettel at bay through the first corner and follow through by protecting his pole position to win the gruelling 61lap race by a margin of just 0.293 seconds. “I love this track, it seems to suit my driving style”, said Alonso. It was Alonso’s fourth victory of the season.

The GASP (Golf Analysis System for displays the true ethics of golf, as well Professionals) also gives us the possibility to work much as extols a passion for the sport that more precisely, and provide the correct information the has become his life’s work. He has fi rst time. The camera does not lie.
Golf instruction should always be a two-way communication. We as instructors are only trying to turn the wishes of the student into reality (only one wish can be granted at a time).
We also try to make the student independent of the instructor. By this I mean that the student will be able to play equally well with or without the trainer, and know exactly what he or she is doing.
Structured training and practice is imperative to create a good performer. This allows the player’s natural ability to come to the forefront, while creating good habits at the same time.
Patience is very much a virtue to be used by the instructor. We ensure the completion of a training module or section knowing that the student is happy and understands before moving on to the next step.
RG: Golf is just as much played in the mind as on the course. What is your take on the psychology of the sport? RJ: Very simple: make the student be aware of his thoughts. By doing this you give the possibility of pressing the correct psychological buttons before each shot. Creating good pre-shot routines also puts the player in a good place mentally (he feels reassured and confi dent). The 5 P’: “Poor Preparation Produces Poor Performance” is thus integral to the training process.
RG: Golf is a sport overwhelmingly governed by technique. What is your perspective? RJ: In my opinion the pre-shot principles of grip, aim and setup are the most important. The one thing all top professional players have in common is the way they set up to the golf ball. This is the one area where it is impossible to make compensation, because of the differing length of because of the differing length of the golf clubs. Many the golf clubs. Many pupils ask why. pupils ask why. It may It may be thus explained: if the posture is wrong, in that case the alignment of the big muscle groups is not in balance. The shaft of the club will then have a different angle in relation to the spine depending on which club you take. This is why when people talk about having a favourite club, you can almost be certain that they have a poor posture.
RG: Who and how do you teach? RJ: Junior training, including a summer camp, Baby training with kids from as young as three years, Beginner training, Training for hotel guests, Elite training, Touring professionals, Pol Bech (Spain), Joacim Hultmann (Sweden), Lars Johansen (Denmark), On course training (course management), Instructional golfi ng holidays, Company days with anything up to 150 guests.
The courses
The two courses were both designed by Robert von Hagge, arguably one of the best golf architects in the world today. The design integrates a links-style course with two large lakes, dunes and rolling bunkers into a classic Mediterranean landscape replete with dense, manicured pine stands and spacious fairways. The courses were opened in 1990, and have since become famous all over the world. In the year 2000 they were part of the destination named as the best new golf destination in the world by IAGTO (International Association of Golf Tour Operators). Both courses have staged the qualifying school for the Men’s European Tour eight times. The Peugeot Open has twice been played on the Links course. The Ladies European Tour on the Links course and the Spanish Amateur Championships have been played on both courses.
Empordà Links Course
As the name suggests this is a course set in dunes and with very few trees to give relief from the wind (we are just three kilometres from the sea). The characteristics are the enormous greens, the many lakes and tight bunkering. This is the longer of the courses, and is the preferred course of the pro´s.
Empordà Forest Course
This is one of the most beautiful forest courses you could wish to play. It winds through well established Mediterranean pines, and demands straight hitting. But don’t worry, if you go into the trees you can always fi nd your ball and play it. This is the preferred course of club golfers, thanks to pure beauty.

Swingtime Golf Travel made its way to sunny South Africa during the heart of its summer season, and like an intrepid golfing adventurer, beat a path to “THE LOST CITY”, one of Sun City’s famous holiday and golfing destinations.
Sun City has two of the preeminent golf courses in Africa. Both have been designed by the famous and distinguished Gary Player. They are both challenging par-72 courses set in one of the world’s most visually arresting scenic surroundings and present a feast for the eye and a feast for golf. The avid golf traveller will not be disappointed and a round of golf here will become a treasured experience. For the holiday maker who is considering picking up a golf club entertainment is guaranteed.
The Gary Player Country Club Course
is tree-lined and presents itself as a challenging and demanding course testing the mettle of the experienced and professional golfer as well as providing endless hours of enjoyment to the novice.
The course is immaculately presented with Kikuyu fairways and bent grass that creates a dynamic contrast with the more barren thorn-scrub and integrates aloecovered hillsides leisurely meandering through the big layout.
Players of different calibres enjoy the many sets of trees and the generally wide fairways boarded by untended bush. The most challenging water feature is on the par-5, 9th, with an island green surrounded by waterfalls and artificial rocks. Be on the lookout for crafty positioned bunkers, swales and mounds protecting the greens.

Swingtime Mauritius takes you every month on a journey around the globe with our partner Worldgolf.com to help you discover Golf courses you may never have heard about. This month we’re taking you to Hawaï… That is until 2003, when new ownership came in and brought local architect Robin Nelson to fi nish the job. The result is two generations of holes, the fi rst of which is featured on the most scenic property at the foot of the mountains. The latter half, consisting mostly of the front nine, plays closer to town.
Puakea Golf Course is located in the heart of Lihue, Kauai’s biggest town of about 10,000 people and just minutes from the airport.
The story how Puakea came to be is an interesting one. During construction of the golf course in 1992, Hurricane Iniki came through and wreaked havoc on the island. Only 10 holes were completed, and because of economic problems on the island, the remaining holes were never fi nished. Don’t let the double wide and fi rst couple holes set just off the street fool you, Puakea gets better and better as the round progresses.
Puakea Golf Course is located just a few minutes from the Kauai Lagoons Resort & Beach Club and serves as a worthy and convenient second option.
