ALARM CLOCKS Replace Apple’s default apps with our pick of the best alternatives

T

he iOS Clock app is really four apps in one: world clock, alarm, stopwatch and timer. For some reason, it’s not a terribly nice clock – it merely enables you to display a functional world clock view, which you’d be hard-pressed to call beautiful. (The iPad version’s much more appealing, with a design that apes the famous Swiss railway clock, along with a world map showing weather conditions.) In this round-up, then, we’re really looking for two things: clocks that look great when your iPhone’s on your desk, and alarms that provide usability or There is one drawback of using a thirdparty app for alarms, in that features

iOS 7 FEATURE

UNDER THE HOOD We examine some of the not-so-obvious features of Apple’s new mobile OS

A

t its recent Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple introduced a range of new Application Programming Interfaces – or APIs. These are the chunks of code in iOS that programmers any new or improved APIs will enable developers to add exciting new features to their apps. Apple didn’t have time to showcase every new feature of iOS 7, so here are some of the announcements that may have passed you by…

GAMING One area that’s received some major input is gaming, and iOS 7 includes APIs that should take iOS gaming to a new level. The key one is
