review
international photography exhibition Swiss Photo’13 is the first in a series of exhibitions dedicated to the art of photography, digital painting and image manipulation. After months of planning and testing our new exhibition concept and methods, we are very happy with the final results, which promise to be well received by photographers around the world. We were able to collaborate with great artists and create this unique exhibition, a first in the history of Swiss Art Space contemporary photography shows. Amazing art and media at the same time, Photography is capable of showing the emotions of our lives and the rhythms of time we are living in. One description for that is the beautiful observation from Kate Morton, “It is a cruel, ironical art, photography. The dragging of captured moments into the future; moments that should have been allowed to evaporate into the past; should exist only in memories, glimpsed through the fog of events that came after. Photographs force us to see people before their future weighed them down”… …See you soon at our new exhibitions in 2014! D S Stefanovich Swiss Art Space

I usually work with the obscure as a form of beauty, contrary of the idea of the usual clean-pure aesthetics. The contrasts of lights and darkness, feelings completing each other, like yin-yang, the good and the evil. The darkness surfaces the light and forms a whole aesthetic equilibrium. Like in real life.
It is the art of photography itself that I find inspiration and expression in.

”Helvetia by Night“ is a personal time-lapse project I have been working on since 2010.
The space of imagination is wide open for a free circulation of ideas and concepts that find their way into my sketches and drawings. I do not think and work in terms of contrasts, of „either-or“. My art discovers the common ground of both worlds and challenges the conventional perception of reality.
They are tiny. Barely visible at first glance, then slowly as if the eye sudenly focused, they appear as little skiers confronting The Mountain. Where are they? What time of day? With theses overexposed and untouched pictures, I threw one off guard - sometimes people think that it is a drawing or a calligraphy and they do not have the feeling of being in front of a photo.

My inspirations primarily come from my country, the people and their lifestyles, combined with my sensitivity of the worldwide influences. This particular view on the world determined by my sensory loss as well as my fascination for advertisement leads me to compose, throughout photography, visual sceneries.
Passionate and always fascinated by the body, a picture or the sensations of the dance, freestyle skiing, windsurfing, paragliding the adrenaline shooters! I enhance the pregnant woman and seek to abolish taboos and prejudices engendered by our culture of nakedness.
Abstract night photography where only LED lamps were used to create a subject from the void. My rule of thumb: only the pure light, the direct light should tell a story, ask questions or give answers. It has taught me one thing: light is inexhaustible, light is always pregnant.

My work blends elements of photography, digital manipulation and animation. The subjects I use mostly deal with deserted man-made structures and urban landscapes.
Keen on photography for several years, I quickly focused on street photography. My shots are seeking to take a look at the scenes of daily life, at the human existence. I take my subjects spontaneously in public places. The choice of black and white is such a simple aesthetic decision: the absence of color allows you to focus more on the composition of the image. Ansel Adams: ”You don’t take a picture, you make it“.
I am a relatively wild man, enjoying solitude in the wilderness, looking for the human lack of civilization. I need to walk in the primary forest hidden and difficult to access. Wild, quiet and soothing. Rain, snow, cold do not scare me, they isolate me from the world. My photos inspire me for simple stories.

My passion is to create images that open your mind to imagination and fantasy. I am most comfortable in nature, with primary focus on moving water. In this image I created a “Dreamscape” using clouds to separate the sky from the ocean, giving depth to the horizon and having the sunlight give color and brightness.
Landscape is not all that I do, but after 18 years in film production, the golden rule is ”wait for the light.“ Using cameras with up to twelve frames a second isn’t going to help you. One single exposure at a time, at a precise moment, like in the old days - and I’m no chicken.
The ”Wanderlust“ set of photographs places the spectator face to face with a particular ambiance, where all the guidelines are lost in the fog. In doing so, the emptiness appears to reveal the nuances, fragility and quietude of this space, out of the common photogenic aesthetic.

Taking pictures of people feels to me as if we are telling secret messages without even saying a word. It evokes all my senses when interpreting the emotions behind their eyes. Photography allows me to express the real me, without boundaries.
I am an American fine arts photographer based in Cleveland, Ohio. I hold a Master of Arts Degree in Art and Consciousness Studies. I have published 3 books of photography and I am currently working on a new book on the theory and philosophy of photography.
I really focus on the light. I try to reveal places in a way we are not used to see them, in a fictional atmosphere, particularly the countryside where I was raised. The landscape becomes a fascinating and unlimited space for my imagination.
This is part of my ”contradictoryportraits“ series, in which I intend to catch the ”good“ and the ”bad“ face of the subject, both at the same time. All the photos of this series are made with a double exposition in the same negative and with a middle format camera, those ones in which you can draw in the focusing screen. Switzerland

I am a creator, an explorer in pop culture that likes to tackle the concepts of our times through different artistic media. With my camera, I like to play with colors, light and travelling with the idea of my subject.
My imageries are documentary in character and expose daily life through chilling observations. The street becomes a ”Playground of Thoughts“, sometimes empty, but mostly surprising, intriguing. Ultimately the viewer will fillin these intensely focused observations with his own frame of reference.
My artistic work is in and with nature. It is a transient, often fragile art form, but it is also a balanced one. I subtly rearrange nature in its creations, but very soon nature reclaims its rights: the ice sculpture melts, the leaves fly away, the winds makes delicate structures collapse, the tides wash away all traces from the sand. It is the realization that nothing belongs to us, it requires detachment and surrender.

My camera captures pictures in all parts of the world, in particular manifestations of water in all its shapes and forms. I express my unending fascination with water with images which range from lyrical and poetic to dramatic.
I feel that my artistic soul reveals itself in fashion, portrait, boudoir and nude art photography. The main asset of a people photographer is its models. I like letting them vent without dictating their position. I prefer a rough picture that expresses a feeling, an atmosphere communicated to the reader of the image.
Study of shell, form, sculpture, superficies, conformation, shape. A sense of incision, etching, the engraving. Grain to the mould. Nothing is cast. No chisel. A photographic inscription of the sculptor’s carving to texture. So, rawness and to its author, indebtedness. Not a variety of subliminal fetishes, yet a real one.

I work candidly in an effort to capture real moments of human life and scenes that communicate the culture of a certain area or civilisation. I am inspired by the likes of Vivian Maier, Sergio Larrain and Steve McCurry.
”Art is life.“ My venture into photographic art began when I was 2 years old as a part of my therapy after having a major seizure. In the three years since then I have developed a keen interest in painting and sculpting. Every day, I try to learn more about these crafts and participate in events that help me develop my artistry for photogrpahy.
As an artist, I consider photography as a medium to express my personal and artistic view on the world. When I use long exposure techniques I am moving away from reality. Beauty is everywhere.
I work on assignments for various national and international magazines, publications and advertising agencies. Parallel to commissioned activities, I also work on a number of personal projects.

I am self-taught and photography came naturally to me. Life and nature are my constant inspiration. I find a form of beauty in things that are left behind. Abandoned. My creative process is very intuitive, led by the energy I find around me. Images find me. Forms, colors and textures layer in an almost abstract way and natural compositions emerge.
The inspiration for this photo crossed my mind during a night concert. I chose a slow shutter speed to give the capture of the desired image. This vision shined on my mind. X-Rays is taken of a series of images that I called ”Electric Motion“. Today the photography world takes all the space in my life.
In my art, I like to capture the beauty in mundane objects and places. Different mediums allow me to express different ideas.

11 years of semi-professional dance and intensive practice of various extreme sports, have enabled me to accurately capture the beauty of body movement, gestures as well as the complex poetics of human form. I love to give time and space to my models to capture the brief moment of complicity between the stage and photography.
Zest for life, passion, love of nature and beautiful sights, manual skills and strong discipline rule my wild heart and a good eye.

My compositions are like a daydream in which the fragmented memories of the traveler, the thief of always, are mixed in with all the irrationality that makes good memories. They capture the rare essence of places that human activity will soon have reduced to silence.

In my photography I embed my experience of graphic design and architecture within a crossing of different perspectives of the visual world that surrounds my private sky. With every image of my work, I attempt to tell a story through ordinary things catching the instant, the movement, and never forgetting that beauty can be everywhere. You just need to want it and be open to look at things out there.
OERA (Overheul Edixhoven Recycled Art) Oera is a collaboration between painter/drawer Sylvie Overheul and photo imager Marcel Edixhoven. Drawings and paintings are merged with photos till new symbiotic artworks, with both a figurative and abstract suggestion.
Architecture, photography, zest and instinct, convening a state of non-awareness. Grasping new processes, it is about following anything possible. Obsessive detachment from space, either digital or analogue. Under the spell of feeling, he falls in love.
I am a freelance architectural photographer since 1983. I used to work on assignment for about 20 years, then started to concentrate on free art work. My prominent field of work became the handling of space to be found in classical architectures such as museums, castles, cathedrals. ‘Suite of Rooms’ could be the superscription of my work.

”Matterhorn Volcano“ was taken during an incredible red sunset in the middle of the Alps. Clouds were completely grey, but in a few moments the situation changed and I was able to take this photo. Moon in the upper left is just icing on the cake.
The original title of the picture exposed is ”Testardo, apri la mente!“ Stubborn, open your mind! I minimized it in just a word, as an oxymoron between title and image, like an invocation to the viewer, an invitation to flow his energies. Testardo was awarded with an honorable mention in the PX3-Prix de la photographie Paris, 2013 competition.

My inspiration is the human being: his everyday life, objects he uses, space he lives in, his body. Everyday images, which often, with a little processing on the computer, provide us with a different sense of aesthetics. New. Diverse. The world can be different. Look at life from another perspective.
Pristine moments of nature and make them immortal through my photographs. This photo was shot while I was traveling on a train, West Bengal, India. The sight was absolutely breathtaking but the electric towers were ruining the scene. I composed the shot so that those towers compliment the shot instead of denunciating it.
My intention is to connect with the subject in order to convey the essence and spirit of that person or place. I then create a narrative subtext using elements in the environment in order to re-interpret the image. Smugglers Fire - a traditional bonfire celebration in Sussex, I used a slow exposure to capture the atmosphere of the event and its emotional impact.
One of my main subjects is Lifestyle. Most of my pictures show positive and happy looking people. My picture is one out of a series showing one side of our society which may happen every where: drug misuse. At the beginning a cool lifestyle with good looking people and great party; at the end depression, schizophrenia and social isolation.

The work ”Cell“ is an object created by attaching bubbles to thread. By expressing through photography, it hints at an organic existence within abstraction. It describes the vigor of life and mystery with a microscopic vision.
Art is the general term for objects which are created primarily to convey meaning and to elicit emotional responses in people through the sensory perceptions of sight or touch. Photography as a specific form of Art focuses on visual perceptions and the capture of a successful photographic image is a matter of seeing the diamond in the rough… The setting sun backlights the red leaves, allowing dramatic contrast with the twilight sky.

This photograph is from a series on Lord Shiva. In Indian mythology he is Mahadev, the supreme God… But besides all the physical attributes and the great protector of universe, there is a man in him. As an artist, I have tried to capture the man in Shiva and Shiva in every man, and in this image he is captured with his lover.
