It all started with a school exercise book, which revealed the crimes of Congolese mercenaries against Central African women, girls and men. On their own initiative they gathered their testimonies to record the crimes committed against them. The film is a long-term observation that begins in 2008. While the victims try to master their difficult daily lives with confidence – and while the legal prosecution of war crimes committed is still in progress – the next war breaks out.

Noise artist Joke Lanz has a loyal fan base. And a revolting image: it’s not unusual for blood to flow on stage. For most people, his music is nothing but an excruciating noise anyway. How does a person come to live that way? The film shadows a sensitive artist haunted by a decades-old trauma: when he was 13 years old, his father went up onto the roof of the house and shot himself. Ever since then, Joke has been trying to find a way of dealing with it. And also with his own role as a father, which has been affected, too.
