MIRAGE written & directed by Nina Stefanka 4

The film accompanies five refugees from West Africa upon their arrival in Italy. Their journey remains a year-long odyssey in which they are exposed to a vacuum of waiting. Only their reflection on their longing for a better life, the disillusionment they will soon experience and their lost homeland form the stability that runs like a red thread through the haunting portraits of the protagonists.

What if the fungus would cure and radically change society? THE MUSHROOM SPEAKS explores possible alliances with the fungal reign. The film is an ode dedicated to the rivalry between men and nature. A powerful man buys some 100-year-old trees, as tall as 15-floor buildings to excavate them along the Georgian coastline and collect them in his private garden. As the film accompanies this unique process, it portrays the needs and values of today’s Georgian society and reflects on the theme of forced migration, where “uprooting” is more than a metaphor.
