A featherless nightingale sings in the forest. Its song lulls the little bear to sleep, soothes the squirrels’ quarrels and entertains the pair of swans swimming on the pond. One day a storm breaks out in the forest. The nightingale has no coat of feathers, so it catches a cold and can no longer sing.

Eduardo Spelterini, who grew up in rural Toggenburg, became a celebrated aviation pioneer through his tenacity and heroism. At the end of the 19th century, a time when everything seemed possible, he was the first to cross the Alps in his balloon and photographically capture the world from above. His flight seems boundless until it comes to an abrupt end with the outbreak of the First World War.

FOR REAL, FOR REAL, FOR REAL THIS TIME written & directed by Milva Stutz
The animated film explores possibilities of a feminist appropriation of digital spaces and technologies. An older woman moves and dances lustily through a space in the middle of a server farm and, together with a snail, covers it with a shiny layer of slime. The myth of cyberspace as an immaterial space is questioned, slimed, feminised and embodied.

1930s: A village in South America wanted to inaugurate its cemetery. Unfortunately, no one died. So the mayor published an ad in the region: “Looking for a corpse for the inauguration of the Miracasas cemetery”. Freshly murdered, Ernesto is the lucky one and takes part in his carnivalesque funeral in spite of himself. The gathered villagers celebrate the event with passion, so intrigued by the idea of death that they put life aside.

A metaphor for the double-entry bookkeeping we live by every day. We know about our own mortality and yet behave as if we live forever. At the mercy of the dentist’s chair, the protagonist cannot escape the confrontation with pain and the dregs of the miserable human condition. To distract himself, he takes refuge in a fantasised story of fishermen and the sea.
