The PHILOSOPHY Azimuth starts with a thought; a contemplation of our place on this planet. A mathematical term which defines the arc of a horizon from a reference point, Azimuth is a mode of measurement used by astrologers, navigators and military men to survey their bearings. But more importantly, Azimuth represents a cerebral pursuit - a reflection of time and space as determined by its Arabic etymology which translates to mean “route taken by a traveller. It is through this convergence of science and philosophy that the Azimuth collection is conceived.

3

The LOGO The Azimuth logo is derived from an abstract interpretation of the “spiral”, as it is known in French or “hairspring” in English. Since the time of early mechanical timepieces which were painstakingly crafted by hand, the spiral has been the heartbeat of every mechanical watch. Azimuth has extracted this essence of the mechanism as the logo to exemplify its philosophy of creating only mechanical watches.

5

Biel/Bienne has long been an important centre for fine Swiss watchmaking, housing various well-known traditional local brands as well as a centre for the continued research and manufacturing of new timepieces. It houses many precision and micro-engineering industries which have acquired a great wealth of experience in innovation and precision work. Such expertise has contributed to its reputation as the hub of fine watchmaking. This is where the Azimuth conception begins - In search of a unique identity deeply rooted in watchmaking design, innovation and tradition, Azimuth has gained much experience by surrounding itself with the best this region is recognised for. This is where an Azimuth timepiece takes its form - strictly mechanical and truly avant-garde. In Azimuth, the product development team is constantly pursuing developments in the field of complications and product design to position itself at the forefront of horological excellence. This is especially evident in the way the company has explored technological limits with the in-house development of its semi-complication modules.

THE COMPANY

6

The serenity of Lac de Bienne has inspired our master craftsmen to inject rich artistry into the timepieces by handcrafting its miniaturized wonders for deep appreciation. They include some of the world’s most beautiful hand-engraved balance cocks in art deco style, as well as skeletonised and semi-skeletonised movements. Such devotion to quality and detail are put in place to ensure that the end-product is truly unique and worthy to the discerning Azimuth customer.

7

A visionary virtuoso in innovative watchmaking bolstered by time-honoured horological master craftsmanship, Azimuth is an inimitable force to be reckoned with in the elite world of haute horlogerie. As it eschews the obvious and unimaginative, Azimuth boldly brandishes its inventive independent spirit, blazing its own trail with an exceptional focus in realising avant-garde timepieces through the perfect balance of cutting-edge technology and traditional watchmaking know-how. Our dedicated designers conceptualise every Azimuth timepiece right from the beginning, ensuring every specification has been thoroughly thought through; from the construction of the case to the fine details of the dial, right down to the minute details of every screw. The hand-drawn concepts are transformed into technical drawings with computer-aided design before prototyping. At each stage, the development process is reviewed and improved by our engineers to ensure consistency in performance before production.

CONCEPTUAL DESIGN

8

At Azimuth, time is not a consideration. If we need 3 years to perfect the design and complications of the timepiece, we will take just that. The result is a collection of watches that is truly unique and distinctly bold in design.

9

The distinctiveness of a man is manifested in his choice of possessions. And there is no greater mark of individuality than a personalised timepiece that bears the mark of your soul and taste. Azimuth perpetuates this sense of individuality through its Special Customisation Program. This programme allows you to create a timepiece that is unique in its own right. With the help of master craftsmen in the House of Azimuth, you have the opportunity to specify your choice of hand-engraved movements, guillochĂŠ decorations or other complex design features to stamp your personal mark through all of eternity.

CUSTOMISATION

10

When you wear an Azimuth, you not only express your individualism and taste for the finer things in life, but you also carry with you the love and passion for horological art. In short, it is a reflection of passion.

11

In Azimuth, creativity has no limits - our designers are free to dream. Translating dreams into reality is a daily affair in our design department. Strictly mechanical and resolutely progressive, each Azimuth timekeeper is meticulously modified and assembled within its manufactory in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. Special complication modules are created to fulfil the fascination of telling time in the most unconventional manner. Divided into five main product lines: SP-1 MÊcanique, Mecha-1 BMF, Round-1, Militare-1 and Xtreme-1, Azimuth’s timepieces express high-end watchmaking to the hilt with haute de gamme complications including the Tourbillon, chronograph, retrograde counter and jumping hour, etc.

The Assembly & Final Creation

13

SP-1 MECANIQUE

SP-1 MECANIQUE The ultimate platform for Azimuth’s watch designers to exercise their remarkable horological creativity, SP -1 Mécanique espouses the quintessential Azimuth DNA of relentlessly creating fascinating timepieces to capture the imagination of watch connoisseurs. Characterised by unconventional displays and beguiling aesthetics, the astonishing SP-1 Mécanique models are built to enthral with their futuristic styling and progressive technical construction.

17

TWIN BARREL TOURBILLON

Inspired by the most hardcore contemporary supercars that only the most well-heeled and affluent watch connoisseurs can appreciate, the Azimuth “Twin Barrel Tourbillon” (TBT) represents a brand new era of “micro-machine making”. It is not just a normal watch with a Tourbillon; we never intended it to be so; it’s a complex modern machine that draws its inspiration from the sexy silhouettes and raw muscle power of the various marques in the high-end market of supercars.

19

A peek at the machine’s bodywork reveals what the creators of Azimuth had wanted to achieve; an instrument that amalgamates the founders’ love for fast cars, the fast lane and haute horlogerie. Fashioned and CNC-cut from a solid block of titanium, this ultra lightweight case similar to the racing bodies of supercars is adorned with plates of carbon fibre fitted into the recesses at the sides as well as the back of the case. Examine the domed cockpit of this TBT and you will realise that the highly contoured “windscreen” is a work of art. Extremely complex and difficult to produce, this double-domed sapphire crystal provides an added dimension to the aesthetics of the case.

20

At the 6 o’clock position beats a massive Tourbillon mechanism with the KIF shock absorption system which acts as the “suspension” for the balance staff and the massive cage. The Tourbillon mechanism is incorporated to eliminate any positional errors that arise from the constant G-forces experienced by the escapement. All this to ensure precision timekeeping capabilities Azimuth has come to expect from this exceptional creation. To reduce drag on the movement, Azimuth has constructed the twin discs and the massive arm from titanium.

21

TWIN BARREL TOURBILLON

Connoisseurs expect nothing less than a well-stitched, handcrafted interior to complement the voluptuous beauty of their supercars. In the same spirit, the unique interwoven fibre leather strap with contrast stitching in this TBT is specially crafted to embody this very essence found in supercars.

ROULETTE For avid players of Roulette, Azimuth has launched the aptly named “Roulette” watch; inspired by the obvious; the roulette wheel and its solid rectangular table. The Roulette was produced to coincide with the opening of Singapore’s first casino in 2010. The winding crown takes the form of a dice and serves two purposes: to set the time and to activate the spinning ball. By depressing and releasing the dice at the same time, the player “starts the ball rolling” (or spinning in this case). The hand with the ball spins around the roulette dial and stops, always landing randomly in a “slot” at the base of a number. The three-dimensional roulette dial gives the impression of a miniature roulette wheel encapsulated in a sapphire crystal. Massive the case may be (at 45mm x 34mm), this block of CNC-cut 316L stainless steel case is ergonomically designed to ensure a snug fit on the user’s

24

wrist with its highly curved back case which also has the Azimuth signature “porthole” design showing the balance wheel spinning. The phrase “BEAT THE CASINO!” can be seen marked on the back plate just to give the owner some encouragement before he or she steps onto the casino floor!

SPACESHIP One feels as if he is gazing at the universe from the inside of a space shuttle when reading the time on the Spaceship. Its enigmatic dark blue dial is showered with tiny specks of radiating stars on a clear night. Matching the mesmerizing dial design is its equally ingenious jumping hour display. Powered by a Unitas 6497-1 movement with the Côtes de Genève decoration, a rotating disc, framed by the short end of the threedimensional minute hand, features a jumping hour complication. Highly stylized, the broad minute hand comes finished with a skeletonized outline that resembles a space shuttle hurtling across the universe. A breathtakingly sculptural masterpiece, the SP-1 Mécanique mimics the profile of a spacecraft’s cockpit. Its 45mm stainless steel case with elongated lugs is capped by a domed sapphire crystal to lend the watch a multidimensional look. The avant-garde case design with a giant crown at the 12 o’clock position is guaranteed to send fans of whimsical horological excursions over the moon.

XTREME-1

XTREME-1 The Xtreme-1 collection launched in Basel 2010 is Azimuth’s answer to the call of extreme sports enthusiasts. The three models showcased in 2010: the Deep Diver, Sea-Hum GMT and Sea-Hum 3TZ, were developed in close consultation with Fernando Alberto Lozano Andrade, a world-renowned explorer, high altitude diver and archaeologist. The entire collection was crafted to meet the specifications demanded by Fernando to cater to the harsh environments he regularly plunges himself into. With cases and bracelets made in surgical grade 316L stainless steel and high-grade titanium, the Xtreme-1 watches are able to withstand the mind-boggling pressure of up to depths of 2,000 metres (200 bar).

35

“Azimuth’s Xtreme-1 watches are reliable and hardy enough to withstand harsh conditions and climates.” - Fernando Alberto Lozano Andrade Explorer and High Altitude Diver

FERNANDO LOZANO - extreme Diver Fernando Alberto Lozano Andrade, the famous Mexican explorer knows no boundaries in life. Having already climbed the 5,032 m.s.n.m Popocatepetl in Mexico and the 5,916 m.s.n.m Licancabur volcano in Chile-Bolivia, he will now embark on a dangerous expedition code named the ‘Absolute Altitude’ to the Ojos del Salado. The Ojos del Salado is the highest active volcano in the world standing at 6,896 m.s.n.m and is located on the border of Chile and Argentina. Fernando will set a world record in altitude diving and be the first adventurer to explore the mysterious lake in the volcano, a place that is still untouched and undocumented. Being a foremost explorer, Fernando knows that having a trusted and accurate timepiece on his wrist could not only mean breaking a world record but also saving his life. “I needed a reliable watch that not only could deliver precision and accuracy but at the same time is hardy enough to withstand harsh conditions and climates. I needed an explorer’s watch, a timepiece created specifically for extreme sports, a “Hummer” that can go into the deepest depths and also climb the highest mountains and I found it all in the Xtreme-1 range of watches,” says Fernando.

MECHA-1 BMF

MECHA-1 BMF Whether you have an unquenchable thirst for supercars or a love for the finer things in life, the Mecha -1 BMF is your ultimate companion in your quest to claim pole position. Teeming with audacious industrial appeal, robust racecar allusions and extraordinary aesthetics, it exemplifies Azimuth’s incomparable mastery in marrying avant-garde designs with mechanical complications. Embodying Azimuth’s rigorous craftsmanship and attention to detail, the BMF’s case is forged out of solid 316L steel blocks which are CNC-cut into its iconic tonneau shape. Its tripartite case construction comprising of bezel, midcase and case back gives an intriguing depth and complexity to the watch. The bezel is secured by 10 Torx screws to prevent unauthorised tampering as a Torx screwdriver is required to unlock the case.

47

THE DESIGN The design of Mr. Roboto is inspired by the Lantern Robot of the 1950s. Azimuth shows that practical functionality in a timepiece does not have to take a backseat to aesthetic visual designs. A unique timepiece that transcends time, Mr. Roboto aims to revive the passion of the tin robot generation of enthusiasts and enduring science fiction lovers. Mr. Roboto’s visual appeal embodies the full-flavored revival of vintage tin robotic spacemen. The placements lend for easy time-reading despite the radical tin robot appearance. The left ‘eye’ is the hour register, the right ‘eye’ comes with the GMT indication, the ‘nose’ region joins with the mouth region for the seconds and retrograde minutes placements respectively. The robust case is CNC-cut out from a hardy steel block with a warm touch of beveled edges at the sides of the tonneau-shaped timepiece. It comes with a unique box inspired by the whimsical designs of tin toy packaging of the 1950s.

THE MILITARE-1 HISTORY The Bombardier I was first launched by Azimuth in the year 2004 and it marked the beginning of the Militare-1 Collection. Powered by the vintage and very rare Fontainemelon calibre ST96-4 manual-winding movement made in the 1960s, it remains a highly sought-after timepiece within the Azimuth collection as production has since been discontinued for this limited series of 200 pieces.

This explains why the Azimuth Militare-1 Collection pays tribute to historical military watches made for aviators, notably those produced for the Germany’s Reichs Air Ministry (ReichsLuftfahrtministerium) during the 1930s and 1940s. The Reichs Air Ministry had made very significant contributions in the development of aircraft clocks and aviator’s navigation watches.

What followed were the Bombardier II and Bombardier III series, both of which were similarly limited in production with 50 and 100 pieces made respectively. Likewise, both are powered by a vintage movement – namely, the A. Schild 1950/51 manualwinding calibre made during the 1960s.

Such Armband-Beobachtungs-Uhren or navigation watches are generally characterised by very large watchcases, black dials which do not carry any branding and radium-coated luminescent markings for the hour indexes and minute tracks. Even the sword-shaped hour and minute hands, and the seconds hand are applied with luminescent material. These were made as highly functional timekeepers as readability and accurate time are of prime importance when piloting aircraft.

In the existing collection, there is the 55mm B-Uhr Original Luftwaffe Specification Limited Edition, of which only 100 pieces were made. Among the regular collection pieces are the 48mm B-Uhr Standard, the B-Uhr Inner Hour and the Jagdbomber. The name B-Uhr refers to navigation watches and is derived from the combination of the German words Beobachtung meaning “navigation” and Uhr for either “clock” or “watch”.

Experts from varies auction houses noted how past movements used in navigation watches were of a higher grade...... observatory quality movements, than other standard production watches.

It is with deep respect for such aviator’s watches that Azimuth uses the more modern Unitas 6497-1 ‘workhorse’ to power its existing B-Uhr line of wristwatches. The movements used by Azimuth are decorated with the Côtes de Genève finishing and secured by screws in blued-steel. S IS SW
