INTRODUCTION Project Overview
Create a freestanding, temporary exhibition for one of the following Cleveland cultural institutions, sponsored by the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Greater Cleveland. The goal is to promote Cleveland’s many cultural benefits to visitors, as well as area residents. It will be temporarily installed in various public spaces in the greater Cleveland area such the airports, shopping venues, government buildings, and sports venues. The exhibits will rotate on a regular basis.
About MOCA
The Museum of Contemporary Art challenges, inspires and teaches a wide range of audiences through pushing the boundaries of innovation, creativity and exploration through exhibitions, publications, education and outreach programs. As Northeast Ohio’s only museum of contemporary art, MOCA brings the art and ideas of our time to Cleveland and serves as an institution of inspiration and creativity.
Why We Chose It
We selected The Museum of Contemporary Art because of its mission to push the boundaries of the art world and host exhibitions that were unconventional and unique. We knew that our exhibit would be unique in both its content and design and wanted an institution that reflected this as well.
CONCEPT STATEMENT Interaction breeds experience, and experience leaves a memory. The world of art, specifically in the context of galleries and museums defines experience and interaction in its own way. Most art museums and galleries separate the audience and artwork, and our exhibit seeks to dismantle this by allowing participants to interact with the art and challenge their perception of art. The senses are something we use everyday, and by pairing three out of the five senses in our exhibit we challenge our audience to question what art is defined by, as well as, what defines art. There was also an open chance to play with color, texture and sound in a non-conventional way that would give participants an experience that differentiated itself from something they had done before.

Exhibition Information
Museum of Contemporary Art The Museum of Contemporary Art is a unique and dynamic place for the visual art of our time. They challenge, inspire and teach a wide range of audiences. Their purpose is to push the boundaries of innovation, creativity and exploration through exhibitions, publications, education and outreach programs. For 48 years, MOCA, Northeast Ohio’s only contemporary art museum, has brought the art and ideas of our time to Cleveland and beyond. MOCA was the first in the region to exhibit the works of vanguard artists like Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Laurie Anderson, Roy Lichtenstein, and Christo; and we continue to bring the work of emerging and established regional, national, and international artists to our area.
Exhibit Message/Purpose
The main purpose of the exhibit is to promote MOCA while engaging all visitors.

MOODBOARD 2 Our concept is to create an exhibit that encapsulates the senses and how we use them to perceive art. We will use three of the sense; touch, sight and sound to demonstrate how art can be perceived and how each individual can have their own unique impact on art and how we consume it. Color Choice: Pastel, bright, energetic, fresh, clean Style: Simple, clean lines, modern

MOODBOARD 3 With a heavy focus on the theme of interaction and experience, this moodboard was created to reflect the senses in their active form. Bright colors were also added to create an inviting, playful feel.

Typgraphy System Explanation
Color Palette:
To reinforce the smooth, linear style of the exhibit, sans serif typefaces were used in combination to create a cohesive feeling. Neusa Bold was used as a headline because of its strong character and quirky letterforms that commanded attention without being too overbearing. Montserrat Bold was paired as its subhead to contrast the almost condensed nature of Neusa and create visual interest. Lato Regular was used as the body copy to allow readability and understanding.
Color Palette Explanation
Consistent Color
For the sake of simplicity, a simple color system of three main colors that shared one highlight color was used. The colors leaned into the pastel spectrum to create a soothing atmosphere.

FINAL NARRATIVE Exhibition Information Entrance Panel Front Headline: SENSE Subhead: An Experiential Art Exhibit Body: SENSE is an experiential art exhibit seeking to deconstruct the traditional separation of participation in art galleries. By using three of the five senses throughout the exhibit, SENSE lives up to its name as a multi-sensory experience that challenges perceptions of the definition of art and its role in our lives. Back Headline: Don’t go just yet! Subhead: Have you experienced all you could? Body: If you enjoyed the experience, why not go through it again? SENSE is meant to be able to be experienced on either side of the panels. Go try it out!
Sound Panel Headline: Sound Subhead: What do you hear? Body: Sound /sow.nd/ Noun Vibrations that travel through the air or another medium and can be heard when they reach a person or animal’s ear. Art is rarely heard. In most cases it does not usually have an audible voice, but one that is interpreted through color, style and composition. Contemporary art challenges these conventions and in this case, sound is experienced as a sensation. Listen to the pipes to hear what others have to say. Create your own sounds for someone else to experience.
Touch Panel Sight Panel Fronts Headline: Sight Subhead: What do you see? Body: Sight /sīt/ Noun The power of seeing.
Headline: Touch Subhead: What do you feel? Body: Touch /təCH/ Verb To come so close to (an object) as to be or come into contact with it. In most art galleries, there is an invisible, and sometimes literal line between art and its viewer. Take the time to touch and sense the different textures and objects on the panel and experience something new.
While art is often seen, its interpretation is left up to its viewer. Contemporary art asks, “What defines art?” and conversely “What is art defined by?”. This ambiguity is what drives the art world forward and leaves viewers excited and wanting more. When art has no specific context, it draws people to make their own conclusions and it results in something new every time. Take a look through the distorted lenses and ask yourself, “what do I see?”. Back Motion Figure: Stand in front of the figure and see how it follows your body! Art Distorted: Take a look through the distorted lenses and ask yourself, “what do I see?”.
