Food Safety Level 2 A course designed for anyone who works or plans to work in a food handling capacity. Food safety legislation requires that all food handlers receive appropriate training in food hygiene, in line with their work activities so they can handle food safely. The Level 2 in Food Safety covers topics that are regarded by the Food Safety Agency as important for maintaining good practice and provided a valuable addition to your CV. Monday 29th April 9:30am – 2:30pm Emergency First Aid Level 3 Emergency First Aid Level 3. No previous qualifications necessary. Monday 29th April 9:30am – 4:30pm Tuesday 9th July 9:30am – 4:30pm Confidence For Work Confidence is important to every part of life and looking for work is no different. In this course we will develop some techniques to help you look and sound confident, to feel comfortable asserting your rights, and to be able to say no. Course Starts Monday 29th April 10:00am – 12:00pm for 3 weeks

Food Allergens Awareness Level 2 All food handlers face legal responsibilities for food they make, sell or serve. This oneday course helps you to learn more about foods that commonly trigger allergic reactions and develop your understanding of the legal responsibilities of a food handler in regards to allergen labelling. Monday 20th May 9:30am – 2:30pm Introduction To Work In Health and Social Care

A two week introductory course to look at the variety of caring roles within the growing social care and health sector, and to identify the skills and qualities of people who work within this sector. Course Starts Monday 3rd June 9:30am – 2:30pm for 2 weeks


Photography With Your Phone Or Tablet Using your mobile device more like a ‘real’ camera, taking control of its key features and functions to create exciting results. If you enjoy ‘capturing the moment’ on your phone/tablet but wish you had a separate camera – you won’t anymore! Learn skills to give your subject greater impact and make better images to be proud of. You are welcome to bring your own phone/tablet (please make sure it’s charged before each session), but android tablets will also be provided for you to use if you don’t have your own. Course Starts Monday 3rd June 1:00pm – 3:00pm for 5 weeks PECs Communication Introduction A two-week course to introduce the theory and explore the practical way that pictures and symbols can help with two way communication between adults in work environments. This course will include pictures and symbols to communicate names and interests, time lines, feelings and emotions, as well as a selection of work tasks. Course Starts Monday 17th June 9:30am – 2:30pm for 2 weeks Mindfulness Introduction

This introduction will show you how mindfulness techniques can reduce your stress levels, and enable you to live a calmer life. By the end of this course, you will have identified at least three mindfulness techniques that can help you. Course Starts Monday 1st July 9:30am – 12:30pm for 2 weeks Gentle Exercises This course will demonstrate some gentle exercises to music, from the comfort of a chair and then moving around the room. During the sessions, you will learn a tenminute exercise routine that will improve your concentration and movement. These exercise movements can be incorporated into your daily lives. Course Starts Monday 1st July 1:00pm – 2:30pm for 2 weeks


Effective Job Applications This short course will improve your confidence and understanding of how to search and apply for jobs to increase chances of gaining employment. Effective Job Applications runs on the last Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning of each month. Sign up with your work coach at the Job Centre, or register with KCU. Please note that this course takes place on the first floor IT Basics IT Basics is a helpful introduction for beginners to build skills and confidence on a computer. We start at the very beginning and by the end, you will be able to send and receive an email, search and find what you want on the internet and begin to have confidence about what it means to stay safe online. No previous experience necessary! Course Starts Wednesday 24th April 1:00pm – 3:00pm for 5 weeks Course Starts Wednesday 5th June 10:00am – 12:00pm for 6 weeks Please note that this course takes place on the first floor Word And Excel Skills This course helps familiarise you with standard features of Microsoft Office. Word and Excel skills are often a standard requirement for many job descriptions, and after this course, you will be able to use these programmes more effectively at home and work. Course Starts Wednesday 5th June 1:00pm – 3:00pm for 6 weeks Please note that this course takes place on the first floor Health And Safety Level 2 Achieve a Health and Safety Level 2 qualification to enhance your CV. You will need to bring ID and attend the whole day Thursday 2nd May 9:30am – 4:30pm


Improve Your Grammar And Vocabulary Do you need to work on your grammar, vocabulary and overall language skills? The next instalment in the Playing With Words series will allow you to do exactly that. A series of progressive, or stand alone workshops designed to target key areas. Spelling Workshop – Wednesday 1st May 10:00am – 3:00pm Punctuation Workshop – Wednesday 8th May 10:00am – 3:00pm Vocabulary Workshop – Wednesday 15th May 10:00am – 3:00pm Identifying And Correcting Common Mistakes Workshop – Wednesday 22nd May 10:00am – 3:00pm CV And Cover Letter Writing Workshop A workshop setting in which we will consider the range of CVs available and what an employer might be looking for. Templates will be available to take away. If you have a current CV it is advisable to bring it with you. Wednesday 5th June 10:00am – 3:00pm Resilience This course will explain what resilience is and during the course you will identify areas in which you have good resilience and areas where you can improve. Through a selection of activities we will identify ways to build your resilience. Wednesday 12th June 10:00am – 3:00pm Money Matters A fresh approach to making your money go further. Can you organise a budget? Do you know how to prioritise? Do you know cost from value? This session is a great opportunity to share tips and gain ideas on how to be thrifty. Wednesday 19th June 10:00am – 3:00pm


Creative Writing This two-part course on poetry and prose will be split into taught group activities and independent workshops in which we will explore different forms and styles, and participants will have opportunity to create a written project of their choice.

Course Starts Wednesday 26th June 10:00am – 3:00pm for 2 weeks Boost Your Mental Wellbeing Banish those low moods with some creative and easy to implement self-care tips. We will work towards creating a positive outlook with an assertive approach to life’s little niggles. Physical factors can lower your happiness levels and so we will consider what little changes we can make to create a sunny outlook. Wednesday 10th July 10:00am – 3:00pm Patchwork Sewing Learn how to make a patchwork sampler using a variety of fabrics, ribbons, lace, braided trims, beads and stitching. Basic knowledge of hand stitching is required. Course Starts Thursday 2nd May 10:00am – 1:00pm for 4 weeks

KCU Courses ESOL Beginners This course is ideal if you are new to English. It will teach you all the basics to start the language and prepare you for further courses, such as ESOL Intermediate and/Advanced.

Course starts Monday 29th April 9:30 - 11:30 am for 10 weeks ESOL Intermediate/Advanced Omprove and build on your English with this course. It is ideal if you have completed the ESOL beginners class, or if you already know some English. Course starts Monday 29th April 12:30 am—4:00pm for 10 weeks Citizenship Learn about the customs, traditions history , law, politics and Britain today in this 10-week course.

Upcycling The upcycling course is designed to teach new skills in upcycling furniture. You will learn how to paint and re-upholster items that would normally go to landfill. Course Starts Wednesday 1st May 9:30am—11:30am for 6 weeks Please note that this course takes place on the first floor.
