with the new Symach FixLine process in Europe, Middle East, Australia and North America starting in 2015.
Symach was founded in 2001 by Osvaldo Bergaglio in Bologna, Italy. The company started as a research project for a new technology for drying automotive paint. The results of the research project led to the development of Symach’s revolutionary drying technology called DryTronic. DryTronic drying technology allows automotive paint to cure in less than one minute.
In January of 2016, Symach moved into a new, larger 15.000 square meter (161,500 square feet) factory in Calderara di Reno, Bologna, Italy. Symach specializes in offering a new repair process to body shops called FixLine. The FixLine repair process reduces the actual throughput time inside the shop to 1,5-2 days and also reduces an average of 3-4 hours in labor cost per repair.
In 2002, Symach started the production of its first robot for automotive body shops called RoboDry and developed a quick new process to spray and dry every brand and type of automotive paint, called SAP “Symach Application process.”

Today, Symach is organized to design, install and train new body shops in every part of the world. Symach has more than 30 employees as part of its international team, which includes installers, engineers and trainers. Step-by-step, Symach manages the body shop conversion, from a conventional process to the FixLine process. The company is more than a simple equipment manufacturer; it is a collision repair solution provider with a profound understanding and knowledge of the automotive collision repair process.

flyDry The FlyDry is a robot that can dry every part of the vehicle; it is normally installed inside multiple prep stalls, for body filler and primer and also inside spray booths for waterborne and clear. The FlyDry is composed of one automatic column that can rotate 360°, including the sides and top of the vehicle. It has one arm with two different infrared DryTronic lamps that can move automatically in every position - top and down - covering every angle of the vehicle’s profile.

The robot dries the parts involved in the treatment without a length and height limitation, using electric infrared. This is because the drying is done from the movement of the robot all along the vehicle’s surface to dry. The only limitation is the working stall’s length and width.

The FlyDry robot has a built-in database of formulas for drying any automotive paint manufacturer’s waterborne/solvent basecoat and clear coat systems. The technician selects the brand
and paint system to be applied. The robot then automatically manages the drying treatment for distance, color, paint thickness and climate. The automatic adjustment and control of the treatment are based on a built-in laser that constantly reads the quality of the drying process. The FlyDry is available in two different models: one is for normal-size vehicles and the second one is for commercial vehicles; one robot can be used in up to four working stalls. In new projects, Symach typically installs multiple FlyDry units: inside body stalls for body filler, inside the conveyor for primer, inside the FixStation, and in the booth for one panel repairs, for preparation and paint. The FlyDry robot dries every brand of paint, primer and body filler. The drying speed is approximately 80 cm or 32 inches per minute; for example, it dries the length of a vehicle’s door in less than two minutes. Compared to the electric infrared, it is seven times faster.

The FlyDry dries with a performance that is about seven times faster than other infrareds on the market because the FlyDry is a robot that dries the paint moving along the surface of the car. The drying time is measured in centimeters or feet per minute. Depending if the technician uses the hardener - fast, standard or slow - the drying time is: Body filler / from 100 cm or 39 “ per minute, to 80 cm or 32 ” per minute. Primer / from 90 cm or 35 ” per minute, to 70 cm to 27 ” per minute. Waterborne / from 120 cm or 47 ” per minute, to 80 cm or 32 ” per minute. Clear / from 90 cm or 35 ” per minute, to 60 cm to 24 ” per minute.
The FlyDry has a multi-language keyboard and a display located on the robotized column. The technician can choose to enter travel lengths of the parts of the vehicle to be dried and can select the correct formula to dry body filler, primer, waterborne or clear. The drying formula consists of the correct parameters necessary to dry a specific paint that the robots perform automatically. This involve speed, temperature and distance from the surface painted. The system is open to the technician to change or modify the formulas if needed. The software automatically manages the “Drying Control Quality” during all phases of drying treatment, adjusting the intensity and quantity of DryTronic waves to meet the parameters of the drying formula.

The crane of the FlyDry is the support of the column and moves along the working stall with three aluminum rails: two on the side and a central one. The column slides within the overhead crane along the width and length of the working stalls. The FlyDry is equipped with an independent set of rails, for every working stall, up to a maximum of four working stalls.

The column-robot can rotate 360° around its axis and can be set in any position to dry the five sides of the vehicle. The column is equipped with a pneumatically-controlled arm that carries and orients the two-lamp unit as required by the drying treatment. The two lamps can be moved from a fully-vertical to a fully-horizontal position and be set at varying angles. In this way, the two lamps can be positioned in the ideal position parallel to vehicle surface for perfect drying.

Every group of DryTronic radiant panels has an LDC (Laser Drying Control) for dynamic drying control. The laser reads the quality of drying then transmits the data to the computer, which then modifies the quantity of electromagnetic waves to meet the correct drying needs if necessary. The drying treatment is always influenced by the distance of the lamp from the vehicle, the thickness of paint applied, the color of paint, the type of substrate material and differences in climate. For all these reasons, the LDC automatically adjusts the intensity of the radiant waves to meet the correct quality of drying.

The carbon is not used; instead, when the hydrogen reaches the lamp’s outer surface and comes in contact with oxygen it generates electromagnetic waves. This is possible only when the masking and unmasking of vehicles takes place in the stalls outside the spray booth. For this reason, we recommend installing the RoboDry only in a spray booth with side pneumatic doors and rails with a carMover for pushing vehicles in and out of the booth, which takes only a few seconds.

The overhead crane of the RoboDry is the support of the three groups of DryTronic radiant panels. It moves along the spray booth supported by two aluminum rails. Inside the overhead crane, there is an electric engine that moves the robot. In addition to the electric engine, it also houses the gas and air systems.
The scanner performs a preliminary scan of the vehicle or part to be dried. This system acquires and stores the object shape, which will be used to keep the horizontal lamp unit parallel to and at the proper distance from the painted surface as it moves around the object during the drying cycle. As a result, RoboDry can dry vehicles and objects of any shape and size. The horizontal DryTronic panels automatically adjust to the shape of the vehicle and remain parallel to and at the proper distance from the surface. They can move around objects of any shape and dry vertical, sloping or horizontal surfaces perfectly.

The EasyDry robot has one limitation: it cannot dry bumpers that are installed on the vehicle. The horizontal group of panels on the robot cannot rotate 90° to be perpendicular to the bumpers. This represents an issue only when the repair center doesn’t remove bumpers for painting. When it is necessary to paint bumpers installed, the RoboDry is the right model of robot for that repair process. The EasyDry features an LLS (Laser Level Shape) system that detects varying vehicle and/or object heights. As the laser moves along during the drying process, it sends the dimensional data to the computer. The LLS system then automatically moves the horizontal lamp up and down adjusting to the appropriate height. For example, the transition from vehicle roof to vehicle hood.

DryTron DryTron is a portable paint and body filler drying tool that uses DryTronic technology. Body filler, primer and waterborne dry in as little as 40 seconds; clear coat dries in as little as 80 seconds. DryTron is ideal for drying small spot repairs, for example the size of an A3 sheet of paper (11.69 in x 16.54 in). It also works well when temperature is fundamental to the treatment.

The DryTron is ready for use after an initial two-minute warm up. DryTron is cordless and

works using a 200 grams or 0.44 pounds canister of gas, such as camping gas. The DryTron is divided into two pieces; one is the radiant panel used to dry and the second one is the base used for the electric activation of the catalyst. The DryTron has a built-in laser for measuring the temperature. During the drying treatment, the technician can easily check the temperature and make adjustments as needed.

fixsTaTion The FixStation is truly a body shop in one box. it is a modern and innovative solution to ensure high productivity and fast delivery of one- or two-panel repairs and the key-to-key time is guaranteed in half a day. FixStation is a hybrid solution that works as a spray booth and a workstation, all in one spot. This solution allows one multi-skilled technician to perform an average of three to four repairs per day without moving the vehicle, which results in one repair every two to three hours.

FixStation is a fully equipped workstation where a technician removes and installs parts, pulls

dents, applies body filler, sprays primer, and sprays and dries waterborne/solvent basecoat and clear coat. FixStation is equipped with a FlyDry robot, a paint mixing room, a Vacuum Sanding system and a MultiBox with plugs and retractable air and electric. Vehicle lifts are commonly installed in FixStations but are optional. FixStation is available in multiple configurations based on length and height variables. One option includes pneumatic doors and carMover rails that allow two technicians to work together. Another option includes inlet fans that warm the air.
The ventilation is at 24.000 cubic meters per hour or 14,125 CFM, for ideal air speed and performance inside the booth and fantastic abatement of overspray. The floor is designed with four different chambers. This design is unique to Symach and guarantees consistent and balanced airflow when the floor filters are in need of replacement due to excess overspray build-up. The PowerLight system, developed by Symach, guarantees impressive light on the vehicle and a perfect point of color for detailed paint application.
The FixStation has built-in technology and automation that recognizes the painting phase and changes the program automatically, using maximum speed of ventilation for spraying phases; average air speed for drying with the robot; and minimum air speed for climatization during other working phases. The painter never pushes any buttons. The front and side doors are pneumatic, up and down, and the external cover is coverTop, ABS plastic panels that are available in eight different colors.

The FixStation’s computer automatically manages the three different programs without an operator. It not only selects and pushes the buttons, but it also automatically increases the speed of ventilation when the filters are dirty. The programs: Spraying / This program uses 80% of the total ventilation and automatically starts when the painter uses the spray gun and stops when the painter finishes spraying. This guarantees that the maximum consumption of electricity and gas is only for the time needed to spray. Drying with FlyDry robot /This program uses 40% of the total ventilation to remove the gas and solvent produced during the drying treatment. Climatization /This program is available only in the version with inlet warm air. It uses 30% of ventilation and starts automatically when one of the phases previously mentioned ends. This program offers clean and warm air to the painter when preparing the car to be painted.
The FixStation side panel is a tubular-welded frame. Inside the booth, there is a powder-coated metal sheeting; in the middle, there is 5 cm or 2 � of insulation and on the external side, there is the coverTop, an ABS plastic panel available in eight different colors.

sprayTron The SprayTron is the newest generation of spray booths on the market to date. It is high-performing, automated and it is built with the best burner, the best fans and the best material available on the market. It can work as a conventional spray booth using hot air from the burner or with radiant waves using a robot.

Since Symach doesn’t compete in the general spray booth market, the company set out to produce the best paint booth in the world: SprayTron. It is constructed out of the most high-quality components available, the fans are from the german manufacturer Ziehl-Abegg, a worldwide leader for fans, the burner is manufactured by nA Maxon-honeywell and all electromechanical components are from Siemens.

SprayTron can be used in a conventional way using a direct flame burner producing hot air reaching 60°C or 140°F in five minutes measured on the vehicle body or by using the Symach robot. The ventilation consists of a backward impeller fan of 34.000 cubic meters per hour or 20,000 cFM for a performance of air speed inside the booth of a maximum of 0,4 meters per second or 1.3 feet per second. This offers fantastic abatement of overspray. The floor is designed with four different chambers unique to Symach. This guarantees a perfect, consistent and balanced airflow even when the floor filters are in need of replacement due to excess overspray or build-up.

KombiTron The kombiTron is a drying cabin that works in conjunction with a SprayTron booth. This product is exclusive to Symach. When combined with one SprayTron and equipped with robots, the daily production with two painters is 16-20 paint cycles per day. The kombiTron dries paint using an Easydry robot, not a burner. The kombiTron is a cabin that dries vehicles or pieces on stands in 8-12 minutes on average. This is because unlike a conventional oven that uses hot air, the KombiTron uses 100% radiant waves.
The kombiTron has an independent ventilation system for inlet and outlet air. The ventilation system removes the solvent gases that are produced during the paint drying process. The kombiTron is equipped with side pneumatic doors and carMover rails, allowing painters to move vehicles in and out in a few seconds. A kombiTron, including robots, is normally installed in FixLine projects to produce 16-20 paint cycles per day.

prepTron The PrepTron is a preparation zone with the extraction from the basement floor and the inlet air from the plenum. The PrepTron is self-managed from the computer. It automatically recognizes the painting phases and changes the program, using maximum speed of ventilation for spraying phases; average speed for drying when used with the Flydry robot; and minimum air speed for climatization during the masking and cleaning phases. Drybox
Drybox
The DryBox is a small oven, 4 x 2 meters or 13.12 x 6.56 feet, and is the ideal solution for drying parts on stands. It uses Drytronic technology to dry paint and takes no more than 15 minutes to dry all loaded parts.

The DryBox has a front pneumatic door with an incorporated emergency door. This permits the painter to position the parts on stands fast, easy and efficiently.
The walls and the floor inside the DryBox are made of a reflective metal sheeting that allows the radiant waves of the Drytronic panels (positioned in the ceiling) to reach all surface angles and dries perfectly in only 15 minutes.
CoverTop (the outer covering) is made of ABS injected plastic molds that can be opened and closed allowing installation and/or repair of any electrical or air lines. CoverTop is available in eight different colors to coordinate with all other Symach products.
The computerized DryBox allows the technician to select one of the drying programs or set the time and temperature to dry the parts. The oven works automatically with regard to the drying parameters selected.
Symach uses the DryBox in every FixLine layout. When there is only one SprayTron booth this allows the painter to maintain the production of 8-10 paint cycles when there are numerous parts on stands.

The drying performance is of superior quality. It reaches 60 °C or 140 °F (measured at the part) in three minutes. In certain circumstances, it can reach 80 °C or 176 °F in five minutes. The Drytronic panels create radiant waves and the reflective metal interior creates a synergistic effect. This allows the temperature to rise inside the DryBox, creating a dual benefit of hot air and radiant waves. This reduces the drying time of clear coat to 15 minutes or eight minutes if using fast clear for miscellaneous parts.

CarWash The CarWash is a glass booth available in several different configurations to wash vehicles. It has glass walls and a ceiling with PowerLight lights for perfect visibility during the final polishing and detailing phase. The CarWash allows technicians to wash vehicles inside the body shop without harming the painting process and there is no humidity or water on the shop’s floor. A unique feature of the PowerLux light is that it can produce light colored to 5200 Kl°, the closest to sunlight, and it is perfect for pointing out defects during the painting process. powerLux lights allow technicians to easily repair vehicles without missing any small defects.
The ModulLight uses the Symach powerLux light. One PowerLux light produces the same quantity of light as three conventional lights. This is because it uses a specific reflector, designed by Symach, that concentrates the light beam with a limited angle to cover only the vertical and the horizontal sides of the vehicle, without any dispersion of light in the warehouse.
The ModulLight is a “plug and play system” that offers light and an electric plant all in one. Every light is automatically connected with the next one. This drastically reduces the cost of electricity.

Carmover The CarMover is a floor system to move vehicles from one working bay to another. It is easy, fast, effortless and is designed to be used by only one technician.
Carmover
The carMover is composed of four plates and works on rails using one plate for every wheel of the vehicle. Each plate weighs only 8 kg or 17.6 pounds. By design, it is easy for the technician to move the vehicle from the end of the conveyor line to the starting point. Each plate’s load capacity is 700 kg or 1,543 pounds. The carMover plate is produced with a special aluminum alloy and geometric structure, which guarantees no bending. The plastic connectors, on each side of the plate, permit the vehicle wheels to go up to the plate effortlessly and without any slipping problems.
The carMover permits one technician to move a vehicle by pushing it with an effort of only 12 kg or 26 pounds. The design uses special wheels and a rail system where the point of contact between them is very thin, reducing the friction to a minimum and permitting a technician to move the vehicle using little effort. The carMover works with two different types of rails, having the same performance. One is inside the floor level and the other one is above floor level. The number of rail positions is five per bay in Europe and six in North America. This allows the carMover to accommodate every model and size of vehicle. Symach uses the carMover inside the FixLine conveyor in every new layout.
