Bird Watching Adventure!
NW LIFE | PAGE 7
With so many different habitats from the farmlands to the shore, Skagit Valley is the home of hundreds of bird species. The best time for bird watching is during the fall and winter when the migrating swans and eagles visit the Valley.
Samish Flats Hawks, swans, geese, owls and more! The Samish Flats is 410 acres of agricultural wetlands between Samish Island Road and Padilla Bay. This is one of the few spots in Washington where you could see five different species of falcons all on the same day! (Caution: Birders should avoid walking in any hunting areas or fields until after January 27th.)
Fidalgo Island - Sharpe Park With so many different habitats on Fidalgo Island, it's hard to pick just one place to explore! For this article, we've picked Sharpe Park, 110 acres of undeveloped waterfront with nearly a mile of rocky shores. This park is home to eagles, falcons, juncos, sparrows, finches, hawks and harriers.
