SUSTAINABILITY & ETHICS
NATURAL FIBRES
Jacaranda is always working towards sustainability and only works with natural fibres like wool and TENCEL™ to create unforgettable textures.
Wool is naturally renewable, recyclable and fire-retardant. It is also soft and warm, with a high comfort level that offers sound absorption and insulation. Jacaranda loves wool for its beauty and resilience and they remain the market leader in handwoven wool rugs.
Botanic TENCEL™ fibre also offers softness and strength, making it a popular choice for ecoconscious interiors. Lenzing, the producers of TENCEL™, hold a European Award for sustainability and their revolutionary production processes. TENCEL™ has a natural shine and silk-like quality. Plus, due to its structure, TENCEL™ retains colour well and creates palettes that run from soft neutrals to more dramatic, vivid shades.
HANDWOVEN RUGS
Every handwoven rug passes through many skilled hands during its creation. Hundreds of bobbins are spun by hand, manually wound round a warping wheel and then onto wooden looms, all hand operated and without the need for electricity. Skilled artisans hand-sew the edge of each rug with a traditional needle and thread. This attention to detail results in truly unique rugs with incredible density and texture—features that are impossible to replicate by machine.
GOODWEAVE®
Jacaranda believes in fairness for all their workers, and therefore it is imperative that all Jacaranda rugs carry the GoodWeave® label. Goodweave® was founded in 1994 by Indian activist Kailash Satyarthi to eradicate child labour from textile production and ensure children have their childhood restored.
The GoodWeave® label ensures suppliers are accountable across their factories, that no child or forced labour is used, and fair working conditions are in place for all. Inspections take place regularly but are always unannounced, allowing GoodWeave® to get a true picture of day-to-day production. Goodweave® also work with local communities to ensure fair treatment for adult workers and to provide educational opportunities for their children.
