OUR MISSION To establish and maintain a recreation and wellness center that will support broad based programming to educate and provide opportunities for the practical application of services that would promote lifelong health and wellness for Texas Southern University students, faculty, staff, alumni and other community members who might not otherwise have access to such services and programs.

FITNESS DEPARTMENTS AND SERVICES: OVERVIEW

The Fitness and Wellness department provides fitness services, personal training, and consultation services to our student, faculty/staff, and community members. The fitness department provides all fitness programming in the Recreation Center including group fitness classes and various fitness services including fitness assessments, exercise prescriptions, weight training orientations, and healthy lifestyle counseling.

GROUP EXERCISE All group exercise classes are free of charge to TSU students. Faculty/staff members with current memberships and community memberships with current memberships can attend the classes at no charge. All participants must have an active recreation center application membership on file. SESSIONS FEES

LOCKERS DAY-USE LOCKERS

Day-Use lockers are a free service. Day-Use lockers are the lockers without attached combination locks. Any member or guest of the Recreation and Wellness Center, who brings his or her own combination lock, can use a DayUse locker located within the locker rooms. Members also have an option to temporarily store their items within the digital locks located within the hallway for secured storage while utilizing the facility. Items from the Day-Use Locker must be removed on a daily basis. LOCKER RENTALS

Half and full-size lockers assigned lock and key are available for rent to members only. The rental term for the Fall Semester is the week before Fall Semester begins to December

15th. The rental term for Spring Semester is January 4th to May 20th. The rental term for the Summer Semester is June 1st to August 6th. Unless the locker is renewed by the end date, items must be removed at the end of each semester. Failure to remove items will result in removal of contents by the TSU Recreation and Wellness Center staff. TSU Recreation and Wellness Center and its staff reserve the right to discard of any items left overnight in the Day Use Lockers and expired rental lockers. Participants should not leave items in a locker without securing it. TSU Recreation and Wellness is not liable for lost, damaged or stolen items left unattended in the facility or from lockers. CAMPUS REC PRO-SHOP

Campus Recreation offers a variety of sports equipment and accessories. Items available for purchase include, program area t-shirts, athletic tape, headphones, goggles, swim cap, locks, locker room essentials, fitness equipment etc.

FACILITY TOURS

Guided tours are available upon request. Current Campus Rec. members are allowed to showcase Campus Rec facilities by giving tours to family and friends at least 16 years of age. Any group with someone younger than 16 years old is required to be led by a Campus Recreation member.

PERSONAL TRAINING

If you want to lose weight, get healthy and/or build muscle, hiring a personal trainer can be a step in the right direction. A good trainer can help you set up a program that meets your goals and teach you the best way to exercise.

RECREATION SPORTS

Intramural Sports are structured competitive and recreational sports and activities designed for all students, faculty and staff at Texas Southern University. The program features on campus team and individual competition in a variety of sports. All IM Sports offer men, women and co-rec divisions for each sport offered.

TSU Sport Clubs are student ran organizations that are created with the purpose of furthering their common interest in activities through participation and competition. The interest can be competitive, recreational or instructional.

TIGER SUMMER CAMP OVERVIEW

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE

The Outdoor Adventure Program is a unit of Campus Recreation that provides outdoor recreational learning opportunities for students. It accomplishes this by providing facilities and services through various outdoor trips throughout the semester, classes on campus, and other events.

The Texas Southern University Recreation Center is proud to offer a recreational day camp for the youth of the TSU’s surrounding communities. The Tiger CAMPus Rec Summer program is a fun, recreational, motivational and educational adventure for children ages 5-14. Camp sessions are one week in length and structured like a normal day of regular school with our campers ENROLLMENT FEE PER WEEK participating in different programs TSU STUDENTS $ 80.00 throughout the Recreation Services TSU FACULTY/STAFF $ 100.00 Department facility each day from ALUMNI $ 110.00 COMMUNITY MEMBERS $ 120.00 8:00am-4:30pm.

AQUATICS

The recreation center aquatics department has a 25-meter pool that extends from 4-12ft in depth. Our trained staff is knowledgeable in teaching water aerobics, swim classes, and life guard training. There is also a diving board available at your disposal. As a recreational facility, the pool is open to students, faculty and staff and their families. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and other TSU Recreation & Wellness Center members are welcome to join the variety of programs offered throughout the year. o LEARN TO SWIM o CPR/FIRST AID TRAINING

This department is a wellness department charged with providing and integrating mind and body, and different relaxation modalities. As a holistic approach, we are focused on relieving stress and promoting wellness and well-being among student, faculty and all patrons who have an active membership to the Recreation Center. Relaxation Center Hours: Mon-Fri. 7am-10pm | Sat. 12pm-8pm | Sun. 3pm-8pm Tiger SPA Massage Therapy Service: Available upon appointment request

The Department of Recreation is one of the largest student employers on campus offering a variety of positions that emphasize student development, transferrable skills and serving the campus community. The position areas include wellness and fitness, recreation sports, lifeguard, member service, leadership, and administration, all with opportunities for progressive growth and credentials pathways.

GENERAL FACILITY POLICIES ACCESS POLICY The TSU Student ID card is required for access to the Recreation and Wellness Center. No one will be admitted to the TSU Recreation and Wellness Center without a valid Tiger 1 card or guest pass. All access to the TSU Recreation and Wellness Center

will be given at the Member Services Desk. Participants must use their I.D. cards each and every time they visit the TSU Recreation and Wellness Center for equipment checkout and participation in intramural sports activities and special programs. Recreation employees reserve the right to deny access anyone who violates this policy. ATTIRE POLICY

• Patrons must wear a shirt that covers the chest and midrift. • Patrons must wear shoes in the facility and are required to wear closed toed athletic rubber-soled shoes in the activity areas. • Non-marketing soles are to be worn on the hardwood floors. • Please visit the Campus Recreation facility for detailed and area specific policies.

FOOD AND BEVERAGES POLICY:

Food and Beverages may only be consumed in the food court area located on the 2nd floor of the facility. ONLY water in clear plastic containers may be brought into program areas. Beverages purchased within the facility may be consumed in selected areas. (Excluding the gymnasium, and fitness center) EQUIPMENT CHECKOUT POLICY

Equipment for a variety of activities is available to check out for no additional charge. Patrons must present their current TSU ID or valid issued membership card. Failure to return any checked-out equipment will result in a financial hold placed on members account until equipment is returned or item is paid for.
