Focus on high contact areas that would be touched by both staff and guests. Between seatings, clean and sanitize table condiments, digital ordering devices, check presenters, self service areas, tabletops, chairs, booths, and common touch areas. Clean and sanitize reusable menus. If you use paper menus, discard them after each customer use. Implement procedures to increase how often you clean and sanitize surfaces in the back of house. Check restrooms regularly and clean and sanitize them based on frequency of use. Make hand sanitizer readily available to guests. Implement staff health screening protocol based on public health recommendations. Promote PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) products, gloves, and masks. Promote single use products, such as pre portioned condiments, wrapped straws, and disposable menus. Consider automatic paper towel and soap dispensers, auto flush toilets, and hands free door openers. Ensure the person in charge is Food Safety certified and their certification is up to date. Provide food handler training to refresh employees.

As we return towards indoor dining, designing the right space for indoor dining will help ensure guest safety, as well as encourage diners to visit your establishment. With the demand for safety protocols, and to meet regulations, you will need to rethink your current dining layout to provide proper social distancing, but still maintain a sense of intimacy and warmth for your guests. Create a diagram of your floor plan layout with entrance, exit, kitchen flow, tables, chairs, and if applicable, outside dining floor plan. Are there different layouts for different days? Are you able to create space for small gatherings? Think ahead before completing your plan by reviewing provincial guidelines. Are there any possible obstacles that might get in the way? Test the process by making sure your staff understands the workflow and their responsibilities.

IT IS PROVEN THAT GREAT PHOTOS SELL FOOD. IF YOUR FOOD LOOKS ATTRACTIVE ON YOUR WEBSITE OR SOCIAL FEEDS, IT’S NATURAL THAT MORE PEOPLE ARE GOING TO WANT TO COME AND FIND OUT FOR THEMSELVES. UNTIL THEY CAME ACROSS THESE PHOTOS, THEY MAY NOT HAVE EVEN HEARD OF YOU, BUT ONCE THEY SEE YOUR DISHES, THEY ARE MORE LIKELY TO BECOME FUTURE CUSTOMERS.

Smartphone camera quality has advanced greatly, but you still need to bring some photography savvy and skills to the game. Through learning and practice you’ll develop a good eye for what works best for you. Here are four basic considerations for attention-grabbing images. Lighting – Use natural, diffused light or an evenly lit space whenever possible. If lighting is an issue, photograph your dish in an illuminated light box or attach a ring light to your phone (they’re not just for selfies!). Layout – How you compose photos can add emphasis and drama, influencing the viewer’s reaction. Try various styles like the rule of thirds and centering. Be aware of what doesn’t belong – that pretty cocktail doesn’t look as appealing with a bar mop in the background. Perspective – Experiment with different angles to see what works best for each dish. Does an overhead shot make that towering salad look flat, while a 45-degree perspective adds drama to a bowl of steaming soup? For video, the popular overhead style may feel instructional when you’re trying to convey the excitement of a dish coming together. Editing– It’s always worth taking a few minutes to correct and enhance photos before sharing them. You can adjust shadows and brightness, enhance colour, crop for stylistic effect, and add filters for a cohesive tone. You can use an editing app or the tools built into platforms like Instagram.

TAKING YOUR OWN PHOTOS DO'S & DON'TS DO NOT use a flash (if possible), especially in low-light. It creates strong shadows and harsh highlights. DO use natural light, whenever possible. Otherwise, use soft, warm-toned light. DO NOT take photos from angles that grossly distort the food. DO take photos from natural angles, with the food as the focal point. DO NOT ignore plating. How the food is arranged, and the choice and placement of the garnishes is extremely important. DO be aware of the color and light within your photos. Use garnishes that brighten the color palette of the dish.

The menu or marketing option you would like to use – menu page, pop up shop menu, carryout/delivery menu, buzz card, poster, table tent, social media graphic. 5. Menu text as a word document with any updates/changes to your current menu 6. PDF version of Current Menu 7. Images (high res) you want included & identify what they are 8.
