w w w w aa aa practice in architecture and design
WWAA was founded in late 2007 by Natalia Paszkowska and Marcin Mostafa (both architects educated in Warsaw). By 2010 they had been joined by Boris KudliÄ?ka, whose professional background was predominantely stage and exhibition design. The very first projects include Polish Pavilion for Expo in Shanghai in 2010 and Cultural Centre in Warsaw (both as a result of winning a competition). Since then, WWAA has managed to carry out many projects both in strictly architectural field, and on its not-so-well defined borders, such as exhibitions, temporary pavilions, stage design and installations. The practice is also involved in research and study projects, especially within its mother city.
REBEL ONE
Type: housing Design: 2011 Construction: 2013 Size: 7962 sqm Client: Soho Development Location: Warsaw, Poland Cooperation: Konkret Architekci Team: Marcin Mostafa, Natalia Paszkowska, Iwona Borkowska, Andrzej Hunzvi, Michał Kielian, Konkret Architekci: Piotr Puncikowski, Małgorzata Majzel, Dominika Tomaszewska, Małgorzata Lewandowska, Wojciech Kluk, Piotr Zmarzłowski, Michał Dezór Photos: Daniel Chrobak
Rebel One is the first building to be designed and developed as a part of the Soho Factory complex in Warsaw. Rebel One elevations, the outpost of the new investments in the Soho area, refer to the architectural motives of industrial relicts of it’s neighborhood.
The character of the front elevation could suggest that the building was not adapted for living purposes, at the same time changing the perception of the whole development. The brick itself used as a finishing of elevations is an extremely traditional material. However, when used with new technologies, materials and motives it takes on a new light. Grey and dark colouring of external walls was contrasted with intense colour of the main internal walls and ceilings finished with a coarse-grained plaster. To maintain the proportions of the building and allow the maximum view, the balustrades of the loggia are made of glass.
SDK CULTURE CENTER Type: public Design: 2008 Construction: 2013 Size: 2100 sqm Client: The City of Warsaw Location: Warsaw, Poland Cooperation: 137kilo, Michał Nocuń Team: Marcin Mostafa, Natalia Paszkowska, Jan Sukiennik, Maciej Kleszczewski, Wojciech Piwowarczyk, Anna Zawadzka Photos: Juliusz Sokołowski, Jakub Certowicz Prizes: Mies van Der Rohe Award (shortlisted 2015), Architecture Prize 2013 Polityka Weekly
The final form of the Cultural Centre was determined by two elements: the first, the situation and an urban context of the object, the second, its function defined by the programme. The existing, original cultural centre was also a source of inspiration, together with the adjacent ecological, educational farm and a survived country house at 7 Tarniny Street. The whole programme consists of two, interconnected buildings, however, each of them can function separately. The basic part of the project and the main entrance
into the building are placed on -1 level, which is accessed by amphitheatrical staircase from the entrance square. This submerged basin functions as a stage during theatrical, open-air performances. Its warm, wooden flooring looks inviting as a place for playing and relaxing between various activities. At the same time it can be easily disassembled for the maintenance of rain collector passing beneath.
KAMION CROSS

Kamion Cross is the second constructed within the Soho Factory complex in Warsaw. The leitmotiv and the characteristic of the second building constructed in the Soho area is space – external and common. Those two elements have always been an area for an unfettered expression of residents. Anonymous balconies gained an individual character by decorative style of barriers or the existance of garden furniture. The idea behind the concept of the design is an attempt to set some boundaries for the uncontrolled actions by introducing a series of balcony accessories. Seater sets, tables, plant pots, bird feeders – they all complement surrounding the building barriers and transform into an ornamrnt giving a facade a distinctive character.

The outside structure of the pavilion and its reflection in the proposed arrangement of its inside functions impose on the visitors taking and following a route which is consistent with the logic of the building. The entranceway – an interlude between an inside and outside body of the construction, is accessible from the square marked out between the pavilions. The partial roof created by the fold in the building, allows for arranging an open-air restaurant as well as for providing the queues of visitors a shelter from the elements. The entrance opens onto the hall containing the information centre, a restaurant and a shop. Next the visitors proceed to the main, full-height exhibition area of the pavilion. It is the space painted with the light filtering through the cut-out patterns of the elevation creating a ‘chiaroscuro’ effect. Consequently, the interior of the building will create a background for scheduled performances and presentations, e.g.directly connected with depicting the life of a typical Polish city.
BELVEDERE RESTAURANT
Type: interior design Design: 2012 Construction: 2014 Location: The Royal Łazienki Museum in Warsaw, The New Orangery Team: Boris Kudliĉka, Natalia Paszkowska, Marcin Mostafa, Jolanta Szybiak, Dorota Wilczyńska Cooperation: Mateusz Morski, Małgorzata Niedzielska, Michał Bartnicki Landscape Design: Abies – Landscape Architecture Barbara Kraus Galińska Photos: Rafał Kłos
The interior of The New Orangery, a 160-year-old building situated in The Royal Łazienki Museum complex in Warsaw, is a space combining the function of a palm house with its collection of exotic plants with that of Belvedere Restaurant which within the last few years has become its integral part. An important design objective of this project was finding a compromise in the way these two different functions will relate to each other in one space. A primary component of the space arrangement is a perforated structure made of steel (Corten) that constitutes a frame for climbing plants. A green wall which became a background for exotic trees in the Orangery is hiding cosy balconies, ‘nests’ of a sort. The main space of the orangery is divided into three levels. The first one is a floor level – the main passageway of the interior. The floor is finished in tiles of two various shades of grey imitating a garden path. The second level is created by an elevated platform, rising above floor level by around 50 cm, which makes an integral link with a bar, a cloakroom, toilets and food and beverage facilities.
