Committee Welcome....

On behalf of the Alberta Charolais Association, we would like to invite you to the Alberta Select pen Show & Sale. As always, we have incorporated our AGM along with an always exquisite banquet supper and awards. What an exciting time to be in the cattle business; and even more exciting to be in the Charolais breed! Market prices are at an all-time high, North American Herd number have been steadily declining, resulting in big demand for our red meat market. Now is the time to capitalize. With the decrease in numbers, supply has to be met with few numbers, and there is no denying the advantage that this great breed brings forward. Producers are in search of hybrid genetics to bring more dollars to the table, which is exactly what we as a Charolais breed are providing. The Alberta Select has been building into a standout/no miss event, and this year will be no exception. It honestly is the “BEST OF ALBERTA” all under one roof. An opportunity to take in and analyze some of the newest up and coming herd sires available in both bull shows, along with a relaxed pen viewing throughout. We have once again made the $1000 4-H credit available to AB/BC members that attend our great even to be used for any live lots in one of the best sales in Canada, the Alberta Select. Also, up for grabs in a $10,000 “Pick of the Barn” raffle, so don’t forget to purchase a ticket from any of the consigners or committee members. There are also vendors coming for a trade show so be it a purse or shiny white heifer, we have your Christmas shopping covered. If you are after the first Charolais to start your herd, or some new genetics to freshen up your program, it is here. Don’t miss out on some great cattle, hospitality, and even better people. We are looking forward to seeing you December 8-9 at the Westerner Park in Red Deer.

From the desk at T Bar... Welcome to the 2023 edition of the Alberta Charolais Select Female Sale, December 9th at the Westerner Park, Red Deer Alberta. The Alberta Charolais Association is one of the most progressive in the nation. Throughout my travels selecting this outstanding lineup, I was truly impressed by the enthusiasm that these breed leaders showed when opening the gates to their front pastures. 2023 Alberta Select is outstanding and dynamic in every division whether it be bred females with early services, the fancy competitive heifer calves, the picks, flushes, embryos, and semen. The genetics are diverse, combining the proven predictable with fresh and new… designed for the new owners to build families around. The phenotypical quality is awesome and futuristic. Plan on spending a fun filled weekend… watch the bull shows and don’t forget to purchase your “pick of the barn” tickets. The 4-H incentive is one of a kind, these breeders are great believers in juniors… our future. The sale offering is filled with unlimited opportunities for all types of operations, be they established or just starting.

BW: 82 lbs. WW: 805 lbs. Welcome everyone to the 2023 Charolais Select Female Sale. Spruceview Charolais is very honored to be selected to once again exhibit a couple of high quality heifers that will be outstanding in any operation. Lorne was a very strong believer and supporter of the Select Sale. Last spring Lorne was already going through his herd and selecting females to contribute to this sale. As it is well known Lorne was a phenomenal cattleman and his keen eye for quality and genetic superiority was outstanding. SVCH 731K will not disappoint anyone. She has matured into very well built easy doing heifer. She has lots of natural muscling and is built broody but still carries a feminine look. 731K also has an exceptional hair coat and has a smooth stride with a strong set of feet and legs. She is out of a real hard working, performance cow Lorne purchased from the Springside dispersal. Her dam has a beautiful udder and 731K is starting to develop teat placement and an udder that should turn out phenomenal. If you’re looking for a cow that will go and produce a tank of a calf this one will do it for you year after year. Al’d on April 21st to D R Revelation 467 with no bull exposure. Blood was drawn at 45 days and confirmed bred. She will additionally be ultrasounded prior to the select sale for bred confirmation.

BW: 82 lbs. WW: 720 lbs. It is very easy to recognize why Lorne would choose this female to be offered in this year’s Select Sale. Spruceview Charolais has for generations produced high quality Charolais cattle and it is hard to choose a favorite between these 2 heifers on offer today. 64K is very much like her sister, 731K, although she possesses some different traits to satisfy a variety of cattlemen. 64K is sound made, has lots of hair and is well bodied. She is a little more feminine with finer structure if you are looking for that princess quality but is still very functional. This heifer has a naturally quiet calm demeaner and is proving herself by maturing into a well built sound female. 64K’s dam also was obtained from the Springside dispersal and did a phenomenal job on her calf as a first time mother, she is also very hard milking with a docile personality. I can see this young female turning out just like her dam and also raising high quality sound offspring. 64K was Al’d on April 21st to D R Revelation 467 with no bull exposure. Blood was drawn at 45 days and confirmed bred. She will also be additionally ultrasounded before the Select Sale for pregnancy confirmation.

BW: 91 lbs. 205D Adj WT: 785 lbs. Here she is!! Take a look at those epds!! A genetic masterpiece.... Capitalist is the outcross herdsire we selected out of the North Grove program in Minnesota. His first set of calves are very consistent, full of performance and have a spectacular phenotype. Watch for a pen of 3 Capitalist sons in Red Deer! We mated Capitalist with the stand out 53D cow – a daughter of the great donor 302N. 53D has had 3 herdsires showcased at the AB Select in recent years including our lead off bull last year. A maternal sib to 322L is the powerful young donor Circle Cee Design 11H who turned many heads last year on the show road over the summer for the Murray girls. Lady Liberty stands for freedom, inspiration and hope – the perfect name for a heifer with a big time future! Watch for a video on www.circlecee.com in the near future!

BW: 94 lbs. WW: 720 lbs. 58L is really correct in her skeletal structure. She’s a seamless blend of femininity, soundness, and power. This bigger framed heifer is extended through her front end and long spined. The Sippin’ On Fire cow family has really worked well for us. 58L is a half-sister to ONL Sippin’ on Fire 8H, who was Champion Bred Heifer at Agribition in 2021 and was purchased by Elder Charolais, where she has gone on to make a really nice cow. 58L is just the sweetest girl. She would absolutely make a junior project, she’s a doll to be around! We offer our own Junior Incentive program. Give us a call or find us on Facebook @ Daines Cattle & O’Neill Livestock to learn more about our junior incentive, as well as to see updated pictures and videos.

When we were picking a bred to consign to Alberta Select 100K came to top very easily. 100K’s pedigree is stacked with maternal power houses, going back to the two original Charolais cows that started it all for us, JIL 123Z and RPJ 298Z. We could write a book about what these cows have done for our program and others. These cows have been both predictable and highly profitable – the kind you want to build a program around! A full sister to ONL 15F sold to Aces Wild Ranch of Texas in a previous Alberta Select Sale. 15F has a really good Ruger son in the bull pen this year. 100K is carrying an extremely exciting service to the increasingly popular WIA Backwater Jack. We used Backwater Jack a little bit this past year and have used him even more going forward. One of our Backwater Jack bull calves, out of a two year old cow, was Reserve Champion Bull at Olds Fall Classic this October. Well bred, good looking and carrying a service to an exciting sire – 100K is 100% worth taking a good look at! AI April 1st 2023 to WIA Backwater Jack 060P. pick of the legacy bred heifers

FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER here at Legacy Charolais, we will sell a registered female out of our herd! We have always believed in setting our customers up for success, and this bred heifer pen is an excellent opportunity for us to do so. We feel that the herd is strong and we can offer to sell pick of our 2023 bred heifer pen. There are 40 heifers to pick from. Sire groups including Legacys Game Day 45G, Cays Outlaw 2G, Pleasantdawn Prada 604B and Cays Connect 31F. Current sisters to these heifers are actively producing and doing a fantastic job. Most of the heifers will calve between the middle of January and the middle of February. We bred the majority of our heifer pen to LAE Laredo 102J who has proven himself to be a successful heifer bull, not only bringing calving ease, but producing us very marketable offspring. There is only one exception in this pick, which is Hayley’s 4-H heifer. She cannot go as there are still negotiations as to who actually owns her. We look forward to this new venture for us here at Legacy Charolais. Buy with confidence, we are very proud of this set of females. Please know that we are happy to assist in any way we can, our door is always open and coffee is always on. We look forward to working with whomever purchases this pick. BW: 85 lbs. This heifer could very well be my favorite heifer we’ve ever raised ourselves, she’s a LILY! She’s got a really pretty head, feminine fronted, deep bodied and is really hard to fault. The hair coat, her presence and what looks like a perfect udder coming just adds to everything I like about her. Her dam is perfect uddered and is going to be a big part of the progression of our herd in the coming years. This Trust x10H cross really worked good for us, if you were at the Alberta Charolais tour this summer you would have saw Lily 338L with her flushmates. We just had a Redemption bull calf this fall that looks incredible, 10H is a no miss, real deal. Lily’s pedigree needs no introduction, the most sought-after genetics in the cow families on both sides of her pedigree. Lily is very quiet and easy to deal with and would be great for any Junior wanting to go showing. Banners are littered in her pedigree.

Grand Champion female at Farmfair 2016 and was the high selling bred heifer at the Alberta Charolais Select Sale that same year, selling for $23,000. This cow will WOW you with her amazing body mass, thickness and great udder. Her pedigree is a great combination of proven elite maternal power and some of the most sought-after genetics in the breed. Her mother is the legendary Starstruck 559R females, the 2010 Agribition Supreme Champion Female. We have some great calves off her this year sired by Trust, Tr. Mr. Rhinestone and Redemption. Her calves were favorites at the Alberta Charolais tour this past summer in Innisfail. Selling the right to flush 11C. The flush will be conducted at Davis-Rairdan, at buyer’s expense. We will guarantee minimum 6 frozen embryos.

BW: 83 lbs. Fantasy is a good young cow with a lot of potential. This young cow is made right; perfect uddered, big footed, and comes from a very trouble free cow family. She did a bang up job on her Jackpot heifer calf at side and is bred back early to Ruger. Buying a cow heading into the prime of her life will yield a huge return on your investment! BW: 94 lbs. Quite a special offering here! 34Lis one fancy heifer calf but more importantly has the potential to be a front pasture female. Barry and Larissa don’t have a lot of cows but the ones they do are lights out! Her dam 107F is one of our favorites; very trouble free, fertile, and highly regarded at the ranch. Madison 34L being a DutyFree daughter makers her that much more special. Have a little fun on the show road next year and watcher develop into a great cow down the road.

BW: 82 lbs. WW: 620 lbs. After touring the PCC bullpen a couple years ago I knew that HVA Fireball was a bull that we needed to incorporate into our program. With the plan of adding a little punch to our cowherd without sacrificing the things we find important like structural integrity and foot quality. They have exceeded our expectations and we’re finding the females might be the best part. Big ribbed, clean fronted, and super sound are things that 308 brings to the table. Luscious 308L is a female that a junior could hang a halter on and have a lot of fun with or would be a great addition to any cowherd.

BW: 85 lbs. Here’s the results of a heifer’s first calf sired by LT Authority 7229. We had quite a few visitors tour the heifer pen this summer and everyone asked the same question when they spotted this heifer in the pasture - “who is that heifer?” . This was Chris Poley’s pick of the pen so here she is in The Alberta Select Sale. If we would have been showing a bred heifer this fall, 213K would have been in the show string. This heifer has all the potential to make an unbelievable 2 year old show prospect as her udder development and teat size look extremely good. CML Desirae 213K definitely has the potential to be a future donor female. Bred to CML Barndance 65K on April 22, 2023 (preg checked safe to this date). Not too pretty that they think they’re above the rules of the herd, and yet feminine enough that you know there’s still a maternal animal in there raising you those power bulls. She’s another Elder’s Houlio 4H daughter, and I think he’s left us a pretty exceptional group of bred heifers. When we first use a bull, no matter how expensive he was, we breed him to everything to see what he can do. When we get the results like what we see on these Houlio daughters, we know he’s a bull that will also work when the commercial breeder throws him on his cows. Laramie and her dam were at the Alberta Summer tour and if for some reason you missed her that day I almost guarantee you didn’t miss her half sisters in the group of two year olds. We are super excited about our Remington daughters and how they look in production. They are attractive and productive cows with fantastic udders. This heifer is well on her way to matching her sisters, she is super long bodied with lots of hair and is well balanced. If you like her now you’ll love her when it comes time to calve, she’ll be at the front end of the herd in no time.

These half sisters are carbon copies of one another, so identical in design they will be summed up in one set of footnotes. We came across FLC Wheat King on a tour at Billy & Lana Flemings place and knew within minutes we couldn’t go home without owning him, lucky for us Billy wanted to see him used more heavily, thus agreed. “Wheatie” is an own son from the great C2 Kenzie 13B. These daughters are going to be special to say the least, they will be extremely easy doing with phenomenal guts and capacity, attractive skull structures, beautifully put together udders, and second to none temperaments, STAMPED with consistency. Words cannot really begin to describe them properly, so on the Alberta Select weekend stop by the stall, we’ll fix you up a drink, and take a moment to analyze them yourselves.

10 herd sires working at 8 operations averaging over $19,000 (Triple C, HEJ, Lazy S, Coyote Flats, Steppler Farms, R and G Macdonald, Char-Maine Ranching, Highway 21) When Hwy 21 was searching for Charolais cattle at the start of our introduction to the purebred business, we researched 100’s of sires and pedigrees. We noticed JSR Estrada working at Char-Maine Ranching and Spruce View Charolais early on as an elite outlier. We felt confident that he exhibited phenotypical and EPD traits combined that put him in the top 5% of all sires we reviewed. Watching the sales of his progeny, many times as “auction rings of 3-5 head” being swept by single producers made the decision easy to approach Char-Maine and Spruce View about partnering with them on this standout. Here is your chance to get in on this proven, reputable sire. PA free.

Highlights: • Chisum X Ledger • Great feet • Gentle to be around • A complete meat wagon with extra length and depth to carry extra pounds • Top 1% WW, YW, Maternal, Scrotal and Carcass Weight • Top 2% REA

• Top 10% marbling • Top 20% milk • With over 225 calves sired, accuracy is guaranteed • Sire of Main Escondido 15K that sold for $57,000 • With his proven track record, their is no doubt in our mind why he was spotted by Lindskovs LT Ranch who bought the U.S. semen rights on this great one and added them to their future arsenal.

First semen to be offered in Canada. Used exclusively and successfully in Canada prior by Spruce View Charolais, Char-Maine Ranching, Highway 21 Feeders, and Saunders Charolais. His bull calves have always marketed as a top sire group in any bull sale and his females easy to retain.

Offering 2 packs of 3 embryos. Selling choice to first buyer. Canada and U.S Qualified. Guaranteed 1 pregnancy out of each package of 3. The stars have aligned.... Your opportunity here all started with our purchase of the Pick of the Pro-Char red factor cows in June at the Sask Royal Charolais sale along with Quicksilver Charolais of Australia for $47,500. What a task at hand!! Pick the best one to take home and keep for yourself. Not an easy feat with 200+ head to choose from, with the unbelievable quality, consistency and depth of the Prokuda program which is also known for being one of the largest and best offerings of red factor Charolais in the world. After hours of looking and careful consideration we landed on Pro-Char Winning Goal 69C. From this point, we were then fortunate to be given the opportunity to work with Pro-Char in the transition of their entire Charolais cowherd into ours at Highway 21. The decision was an easy one. With the acquisition of the entire herd, we now feel it is time to be generous and as well share “JUST A LITTLE BIT” of this new found opportunity. We have been asked by many breeders if we intend to have a female sale now that we have added the Pro-Char herd. Honestly, we want to keep them all for ourselves, thus this is the only SURE way to get your small slice of this iconic transaction. Both embryo packages should either be 100% red factor, or at least a high percentage, depending which one you take. Again, we want to give a huge thank you to David, Kristina, Kendall and Marshall Prokuda of Pro-Char Charolais. In 2025, we will have our first offering of bulls from this herd that we feel was built on “35 years of perfection, professionalism, and exceptional customer service” and that tradition will continue.

Terms & Conditions TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association, unless otherwise stated. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made. PEDIGREE ESTIMATES: Pedigree Estimates (PE) are created on the projected mating of the animal’s sire and dam based on averages of the two, creating estimated values that do not hold the same accuracy of actual EPDs issued from the association and should be used as such. HEALTH: All animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements. GUARANTEE: Each animal becomes the purchaser’s risk immediately after the animal is sold. All animals in this sale will be sold under the terms and guarantees set forth by the appropriate breed association with regard to health, freedom from defects and from both reproductive and specific genetic unsoundness. PREGNANCY INFORMATION: All serviceable age females have been pregnancy examined by an accredited veterinarian, giving an estimated length of gestation. This Estimated gestation period shall be used only as a guideline to calving and is not a guarantee of actual service.

LIABILITIES: All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The seller, facility owner and sale manager assume no liability legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur. It is understood that T Bar C Cattle Co. (2013) Ltd. is acting only as a medium between buyer and seller and is not responsible for any failure on the part of either party to live up to his obligations. Neither does T Bar C Cattle Co. (2013) Ltd. assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of any monies between parties and any legal action that may in exceptional cases be taken must be between the buyer and the seller. T Bar C Cattle Co. (2013) Ltd. assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfillment of all guarantees and representations made hereunder. DELIVERY: Every assistance will be given in getting your purchases home. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. PHONE, MAIL, WIRE BIDS: Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone, wire or mail their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. INSURANCE: We strongly recommend that insurance is purchased for full value. ERRORS: All announcements at sale time, written or oral, supersede any written material in the catalogue.
