Welcome to the 16th Annual Tools of the Trade Bull Sale. 2011 brings on a new and exciting outlook in the cattle industry. With cattle numbers as low as they are across the country and increasing demand, we can be confident that there are very exciting times ahead for those of us that weathered this storm recently. You’ll also notice a change in the structure and location of the Tools of the Trade Bull Sale. For the past 15 years we have had the pleasure of hosting the bull sale with our good friends, the Blacklocks. With new ideas and our herds moving in different directions, we made the decision to have the 16th Annual Sale right here at Wilbar Farms. This past summer we built a “state of the art” sale barn that doubles as a calving barn in the winter. It has been a goal of ours to have our own bull sale at the farm where the bulls are fed all winter. You now have the opportunity to look through the outstanding set of cows these bulls come from. This year, instead of running the bulls through a sale ring, we are presenting a video sale. The bulls will be available for viewing in pens adjacent to the sale barn before and during the sale but will not physically enter the barn during the sale. A video clip of each bull will appear on a projection screen until each bull is sold. This will reduce stress on the bulls (and also ourselves!) by not bringing them into the sale barn. Our commitment to you remains unchanged – to breed functional cattle that will survive in the country’s harshest environments and produce profitable offspring year after year. Although we cannot control the turbulent cattle market, we can however control our place in it - by using bulls that produce the right kind of calves, with as little input and labor as possible. Its not anything new, top end calves bring top dollar, in a strong or weak market. Purchase a Wilbar bull that is bred to calve unassisted, have lots of vigor at birth, wean heavy and gain in the feedlot. The bulls selling in this sale are grown with longevity in mind. They are fed a high roughage TMR(Total Mixed Ration) silage ration that includes a formulated grain and mineral mix that allows the bulls to grow out properly and give us an idea of their potential gaining ability that will pass onto their progeny. You can rest assured that you are purchasing a high quality herd bull that came from the top 50% of a 120 head pen of bulls at weaning time. The bulls are on a strict herd health program, semen tested, enrolled in the Canadian Angus Performance Program and sell fully guaranteed. If you cannot make it to the sale and would like to bid on some of the sale offering we can walk and or talk you through the bulls prior to the sale or have one of our sale staff bid on your behalf. Any sight un seen purchases will not be final until the buyer’s approval of the new bull. If you don’t like him, you don’t own him! Thank you for considering our program. We Will be Selling the Bulls on Sale Day on VIDEO

The bulls will be available for viewing in pens adjacent to the sale barn before and during the sale but will not physically enter the barn during the sale. They will instead, appear in a video clip on a projection screen that will run continuously until each bull is sold. We do recommend that you come prior to sale day or allow yourselves enough time to study the animals closely prior to the commencement of the auction. In our experience attending video sales we felt it was important to study all of the bulls prior to the sale and have an extensive list of potential selections to avoid disappointment. Remember, live bulls do not enter a sale ring. We believe the opportunity to view the bulls in pens outside where they are more comfortable, will ser ve our buyers well. This will reduce stress on both bulls and people. Reload is one of the most unique bulls to enter the Red Angus breed in resent years. He is phenotypically outstanding – moderate framed, thick, heavy muscled with tremendous base width, capacity and volume and an easy fleshing appearance. Reload is unique in terms of his masculinity and breed character and puts it all together in an attractive, structurally correct package. After being crowned National Champion Bull himself, Reload sired the National Champion bull this past fall; a feat that doesn’t happen very often. Our Senior herd sire at nine years of age. Rarely do we keep a herd bull around this long as we are always trying to offer unique bloodlines to our commercial customers, but Tornado 157M was the exception. His progeny have calved easy with modest birth weights on all sorts of cows. He adds an abundance of power and scrotal to his sons and loads of fertility and milk to his daughters. Some sire’s legacy live on through their sons, Tornado’s will be through his daughters; they are some of the most productive cows that we have raised. Some of his highlight daughters have been the dams of the $70,000 Cockburn Ribeye 308U and the $17,500 Howe Finest Tradition 20W. Tornado was lost last summer so this is the last major offering of his sons.

The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.

All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The sellers, facility owner, auctioneer and sale manager assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur.

Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Angus Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone, wire or mail their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

All animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements.
