This is their 18th anniversary … and “wow” these breeders are getting serious about producing breeder bulls! In the Gelbvieh division, Blair and Lorie have been the source of breeder bulls and ranchers alike for the past decade. Their lineup for 2022 is impressive… homo polled and homo good! Bulls with muscle and hair, and still come with calving ease and performance John at Black Ridge will tell you despite the hot weather and drought, this might be the best set of bull to date. They feature the sons of Lewis 389G and his son Riot. Strong maternally, they will add pounds at weaning while producing daughters that will fill your replacement needs. The boys, at Twin Heritage have become an official supplier of Red Angus for both the rancher and the purebred breeder. Welcome to the 18th Annual Best of the Breeds Bull Sale. We are very excited about the bulls we will have on offer once again this year. We will have both red and black bulls that will work both on heifers, as well as performance bulls to produce those scale busting steers. Our bulls come from good footed, neat uddered, low maintenance cows. At Goodview we put a lot of emphasis on our cows, so you can buy with confidence knowing that the bull you purchased is from a sound, problem free cow herd. Gelbvieh is a continental breed that has very strong maternal traits such as docility and rich milk that is produced in tight, correct udders. Gelbvieh will add that extra muscle to give your calves the extra pounds you’re looking for at sale time. Gelbvieh calves are born with vigor, which is one of the reasons Gelbvieh influenced females wean more pounds of calf per cow exposed. Use Gelbvieh bulls in your crossbreeding program to get early maturing, long lasting females, as well as sale topping steer calves. We continue to use a high fiber developer program. We wean the bulls off on oats then after 60 days they are pail fed a bull developer ration along with barley silage and grass alfalfa hay. This diet develops a healthy rumen, while maintaining good long-term health. We target a 3.5 lb. average gain to develop good footed, long lasting bulls that will last for their new owners. Jericho is a bull that we were breaking to take out on the road but you can’t take them all. His dam FLAD Fame 23F is deep and long bodied with a beauty udder. The type of cow you want to build a herd around. Jericho is long, deep sided, has a ton of dark red hair and a sweet disposition. HOMO POLLED.

Gelbvieh BLB Jetson 124J is another son of SLC Outback 142X and out of a Dwayne Nelson bred female we purchased out of the Gathering female sale. She also raised our walking sire BLB Hitch 23H. Both her sons style very similar to one another. They are moderate in stature with a huge rib shape and hip width. Jetson has had that herd bull look from a young age and hasn’t disappointed us to this day. Jetson is dark red and deep sided with a lot width over the top that carries into his hip. Sire of Lot 5: BLB GOODVIEW PLD EATON BLB Jet 151J is the youngest bull in our pen out of a first calver. His dam BLB 6G is a very correct female that has just enough power. She goes back to past futurity champion RWG Captain and a Prairie Hills Gelbvieh bred female. Jet was sired by BLB Eaton 35E, a bull we used successfully on our heifers. Eaton sires offspring with a lot rib shape and hair. Jet is very similar to his sire at this age. He comes in a moderate frame with that classy herd sire look to him. Jet is the youngest bull in the pen but boasts a very nice WPDA of 3.66 and ADJ YW of 1361. Jet is dark red with a ton of hair, deep sided and a real nice hip. HOMO POLLED.

BLB Jenner 143J is sired by past National Champion SLC Outback 142X. His Gung Ho sired dam FLAD 50F has done an awesome job for us. Her first calf is walking at Brittain Farms and she now has raised this tank. She raises calves that are small at birth then just grow. Not big in frame but thick and deep. Jenner looks like his sire did at a young age, the type of cattle we like. Jenner is more the traditional Gelbvieh color so if you’re in a cross breeding program and blonde calves don’t matter take a good hard look at him, he is very good. Well as I write this and reflect on the past year, drought is the most challenging obstacle the cattle industry is dealing with at this time. We were fortunate that our pastures lasted as long as they did and we did get some feed but the cost is high. We did some heavy culling of cows and calves so the bull pen is a little smaller this year. The bulls are a very solid consistent pen, I think one can appreciate their performance on drought pastures and no creep feed. We also left them out in the pasture longer as the feed situation at home was very slim. The bulls were developed similar to last few sets of bulls, whole oats mixed, mineral tubs and hay, due to shortage of silage they are mostly hay as we are stretching the silage for the cows. They have been gaining very well on feed and we feel they are in excellent shape to go out and breed. Please feel free to call or stop by at anytime. “Raising Registered Angus Since 1957”

We purchased Bravo, the lead off high selling Black Angus bull from Lewis Farms in their 2020 Bull Sale. Before they sold him, Lewis Farms drew semen and used him in their own herd. He has a great spread of an 80lb birth weight to 1537lb yearling weight and is in the top 10% of the breed for growth. He is hairy, stout, moderate but exceptionally thick with large testicles and he has passed that down to his calves.

A very attractive solid bull full of red meat. His dam has a beautiful tidy udder with small teats, and she herself is a very easy doing deep bodied cow. He will be moderate in frame but he does not lack in performance, a real herdsire in the making. Weaned off at 890lbs in the beginning of October.

This bull is probably one of the deepest ribbed belly bulls in the pen and he gets that from his mother’s sire. The Bullseye bull was probably one of the deepest bulls we have ever owned. Dam of this guy is a no miss cow, we have retained her first daughter and she was the first heifer to calve this year. This guy is just flat out good.

A cracker of a calf off of a first calf heifer, can’t complain when a first calver weans off calves like this. These Bravo sons are peas in a pod, moderate long, thick hairy with big testicles. We used Bravo in the heifer pen, and we are very happy with the quality of calves he left us, the heifers we retained are just as good as the bulls. This guy started out at 80lbs, has excellent hair, long and moderate frame, and full of red meat too! His dam comes from a old cow family here at the farm.

This guy really pounded down the scales this fall as well being one of the heavier bulls. It was an excellent combination of genetics and we jumped at it. We bought him to produce those females that are the backbone of a herd. Welcome to the 18th Annual Bull Sale. Well hopefully by sale time we are back to what used to be normal and we can see you in the stands at the sale and have a face to face visit. This past summer the calves did exceptionally well despite the drought and weaned off with some really good weights. We are proud to have a consistent group of bulls on offer right from birth weights to weaning and yearling weights. This year we have a really good mix of bulls both AI sired and some from our walking bulls. This will provide you with a great selection to choose from that fits your operation. Whether you require a bull for heifers, a bull for cows, or a 2 year old for bigger pastures, you will find it here. As you can see from the data on the bulls, we focus on calving ease, but still require performance. We offer sound bulls with great hair coats and good dispositions. Not all of our bull calves are selected to make bulls, some don’t live up to the quality we want to sell. This ensures you that we are proud of our offering and stand behind our product. Like always, we keep back some younger bulls as insurance bulls for our customers in case they encounter a wreck. We will have a bull for you to breed with. When we purchased Boulder we knew we would put him together with Miss Marcus “Marcy” for a flush. Marcy is the dam of our Zeus bulls from a few years ago and also the dam of Kingpin who sold to Jensen Simmentals, Kansas for $25,000 in last year’s sale. The result turned out just as we hoped with these two bulls being dark red, heavy pigmented and polled. Boulder’s sons are moderate, stout, smooth made bulls. Slate is a thick made, wide topped bull and is hetero polled. Rocky is long bodied, heavy haired and homo polled. With the maternal strength of Marcy and the Ada 177C cow family, one can expect these brothers to sire some excellent replacement females.

Fairview Samantha 18F We have been producing these Fleckvieh hybrid bulls for a number of years now. We often cross our fleck bulls on our red and black cows but now have used Warrior on some fleck cows for the same result. This cross provides hybrid vigour as the fleckvieh and purebred bloodlines are unrelated. In addition we see added muscle, hair and overall performance and some chrome with the blaze face. Commander is a thick made bull with a big square hip and lots of length. His dam is a beautiful uddered Phantom daughter going back to our Sering donor cow. We are very hard on our fall calving cows as we only want a certain number of them, so have confidence these two bulls are top caliber bulls.

Our Erica (E) cow family is the largest in our herd and the foundation of our red program. Chisel’s dam is quickly proving herself as a top female in our herd with her first two calves and she has another real good Sysco bull calf at her side now. Chisel checks all the boxes for us in a herd bull search and you will drive many miles to find a bull this good.

Broad topped, deep ribbed, with a full quarter is how I would describe Eclipse as a mature herd bull and Stellar is true to this description as well. His dam is another daughter of the 79Y cow and a full sister to the dam of lot 113. I would expect all of these Eclipse sons to sire calves with moderate birth weights and above average performance.

Terms and Conditions Terms:

The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance, unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.

Bidding:

Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. In the case of a dispute, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved in the dispute. If no further bidding is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision on all disputes will be final.

Announcements:

All announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to such disclosures.

Breeder’s Guarantee:

Should any bull fourteen (14) months of age or over fail to prove a breeder after being used on females known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six (6) months following the date of purchase or six (6) months after the bull has reached fourteen (14) months of age. The seller will have the right and privilege of six (6) months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

Exception Guarantee:

In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void.

Certificate of Registration:

Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais, Angus, Simmental, and Gelbvieh Associations. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

Phone, Mail, Wire Bids:

Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone, wire or mail their bids and instructions to the sale managers, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

Delivery:

We will assist in making transportation arrangements outside MB and SK. All costs are the responsibility of the buyer. You may be asked to take your bull early if the truck is in your area. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

Insurance:

Will be available sale day. We strongly recommend that insurance is purchased for full value.

Errors:

All announcements at sale time, written or oral, supersede any written material in the catalogue.

Pedigree Estimates

Pedigree Estimates (PE) are created on the projected mating of the animal’s sire and dam based on averages of the two, creating estimated values that do not hold the same accuracy of actual EPDs issued from the association and should be used as such.

Health:

All animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements.
