From the desk at T Bar…
March 30th, 2014 will mark the 10th Anniversary of the “Best of the Breeds” bull sale. For the past nine years, this group of breeders have supplied the Parkland region with herd improving sires adding value for all who selected their bulls at “Best of the Breeds.” As market trends changed, these young breeders (after all these years they would say they are seasoned breeders) adapted and improved their programs using the latest genetics to supply the best product available. The bulls selling are selected from the top of each program, produced especially for this sale, none sold prior or picked over, so that you are assured of the finest quality and selection. The “Best of the Breeds” bull sale is a one-stop shopping event. It combines the most sought after breeds by feeders and packers. The Continental breeds through Charolais, Simmental and Gelbvieh will add performance and pounds at weaning, while the British side through Red and Black Angus add calving convenience, marbling, carcass values and their famous maternal characteristics. All bulls are ranch raised, grown out on a high roughage diet in an effort to have your purchase sound and long-lasting. Since all the breeders use A.I. in their programs, you are assured of selecting from the most current genetic combinations available. The bulls are semen tested and veterinary inspected to assure soundness and fertility; due to the proximity of the breeders, if there is a bull wreck in the pasture, they are as close as your telephone. We have entered a new era in the livestock industry...an exciting era where high profit margins are endowed on every producer who weathered the past ten years of stagnation. The North American cow herd must be restocked with young, highly productive females, but since gestation remains at nine months, this rebuilding phase will not occur over-night. Even with the impending shortage of slaughter cattle, we must start thinking maternal, therefore study or view the mothers of the bulls you purchase. Since these breeders are in your local area, visit their farms, view the bulls in their natural environment and see their mothers...it will be well worth it in years to come. If time does not permit a farm visit, do not hesitate to call any of the breeders and ask them about the bulls, their mothers and your requirements...they will give you an honest assessment. The “Best of the Breeds” sale is an event that everyone should attend and add a bit of extra added value to one`s program. Come early and view the bulls...the ladies host a marvelous noon lunch complete with refreshments. Those who pick up their purchases sale day receive a special discount, so bring your trailer. Plan to be with us at Parkland for this tenth anniversary. If we, at T Bar C, may be of assistance, prior to or sale day, feel free to give Ted, Shane or myself a call, we will be pleased to assist you with your selections.

Welcome to the Best of the Breeds bull sale 2014. We are offering our first calf crop sired by the 2013 National Champion Bull SLC Outback 142X. This year’s pen of bulls are very uniform. The Outback sons are moderate in stature, deepsided, thick butted bulls with a nice hair coat. If you are looking for a bull to use on cows to produce replacement females and feeder steers or a bull for heifers, we will have a bull for you. We will be hosting a Bull Pen open house Sunday March 23 at 1PM. Come walk through the bull pen, look at their dam’s and sisters and get an idea what the Gelbvieh breed is all about. If you can’t make it that day, feel free to stop by any time and we will be happy to show you through the herd. Admiral 32A is a bull that will get a lot of attention. He was part of our show string at Agribition this year and represented our program very well. He is very structurally correct with a puppy dog temperament, good testicles and beautiful long wavy hair. 32A has a very moderate 80 lb. birth weight, weaning weight of 794 on Oct. 26 and a yearling weight of 1131 on Jan. 25. His adj. 365 is 1368 with an Adg. of 3.59 lb./day. He accomplished all that from a mama raising her first calf. His dam was sired by BLB Wrocker 20W,who is the grand sire of the 2013 Futurity Bull Champion owned by Fladeland Livestock. 32A grand sire is Rickards Red, who needs no introduction. His dam and grand dam are both moderate dark red cows with neat udders and an abundance of milk. His pedigree is really cool, with the likes of Outback, Rickards Red, Holman, FRL Legacy and the great ATC 259H female. He will add something a little different to a breeder’s program. Check out his EPD’s ,CE 7,BW -0.3. Homo Polled test pending.

Here is another exciting Outback son. 7A is a ¾ brother to 32A. His dam is also a Wrocker daughter. Wrocker is the sire of BLB The Rock ,the sire of the 2013 Bull Futurity Champion, Flad Rocm Socm owned by Fladeland Livestock. 7A goes back to one of our foundation females BBB 281F. She raised many herd bulls and very productive females including 7A’s grand dam 137M. 137M is a Holman daughter who has become the next great dam in our herd. His dam 11Y has a picture perfect udder. 7A is a very structurally correct bull with a lot of eye appeal. He is moderate in stature, deep sided, thick butted, with a lot of testicle development. He has a moderate birth weight of 88 lbs. WW of 843 on Oct. 26 and Y.W of 1179 on Jan. 25. His Adj. Y.W is 1332 with and Adg. of 3.69. All this from a first calf mama. Homo Polled test pending.

This guy is thick. 20A was my pick of the pasture. He was slated to go to Agribition. What a thick good haired easy fleshing bull. He has a wide rear leg stance which will translate into a wider pelvic area. These Outback sons have all inherited this trait. His dam is a Stacker daughter going back to JRI PLD NEW ENHANCER. His daughters will be moderate with very nice udders. Definitely a herd sire prospect. He is the second highest gainer at 3.69 ADG.

Our only black bull in the pen this year. 6A is a fancy Outback son going back to 4X. Her sire RPS 82U sired very productive neat uddered females. This cow has raised 2 calves both which topped the pen. Her heifer calf last year sold to Meng Cattle in Troy, Kansas. She comes from a family of top producing black cows. They are very fertile always calving in the first cycle. 6A was always a standout in the pasture and is now a standout in the bull pen. He is definitely a herd sire prospect, not just for his looks but also for the family that stands behind him. He has a moderate BW of 88 lbs., WW 840 on Oct. 24, YW 1155 on Jan. 26, ADJ. 365 1227lbs. What a meat machine. 35A is the youngest bull in our pen. Born April 4 at a modest 90 lbs. He weaned off at 728 lbs. actual, YW of 1100, ADG. Of 4.1 lbs./day. His mother is a Pabst daughter with a lot of milk and nice udder suspension. She has been a very consistent producer for us year after year. 35A has as much maturity as the bulls 2 months older than him. He will sire both scale bending steers and money making daughters.

Black Ridge Angus Welcome to the Best of the Breeds Bull Sale for 2014. First and foremost we would like to thank all of our past buyers and bidders who supported us over the years.
Black Angus
The bulls this year were once again raised on mother’s milk and grass until weaning. We are very happy with the bulls weights and performance as shown by the adjusted 205 day weights as the bulls have recieved no creep feed. The bulls were weaned in late September and into October and were fed a hay, grain and supplement diet until after Christmas when they graduated to an oat silage ration. Sires represented this year include the AI sire from the States, RAF Wideworld 920; you will remember his bulls from last year and they were a pen of stout, growthy, masculine bulls. We are also offering sons from our own herd sires; Peak Dot Resolute 37W, Black Ridge Powerstroke 14U, SAV Mandan 0623 and his will be the last year of SAV Net Result 7504 natural calves, as before breeding last year he got sick and we had to sell him.
John, Bonnie & Family
We hope you will appreciate the offering. Please feel free to stop by anytime to look at the bulls, their sisters, dams and sires. And make sure you have time for a coffee and a visit. Please feel free to visit our Facebook page “Black Ridge Angus Farm” to find more pictures of the bulls and updates. We apologize for the lack of pictures this year, but with the cold weather and wind, we have been unable to find time to take them.

The dam of this bull is one of the first to calve every year, a very fertile hard working cow. We have sold three other bulls out of her at this sale to Lyle Davis, Dwayne Flaman and Ryan Caragata. This bull had a 855 lbs. weaning weight this fall from just milk and grass. This is probably one of the best sons of our old herdsire SAV Net Result 7504.
One of the top calves in the pen out of RAF Wideworld 920, his dam is a heavy milking good uddered cow out of the Peak Dot Ambush 180N bull. A bigger long sided bull, with some frame.

This younger bull has some good performance when he weighed in at 675lbs in the middle of September. Last year our high selling bull to Rafter Seven Ranch was out this very cow, and she has raised another good one. This bull is out of our old walking herd sire and was on display here last year. This cow has had three calves and all three have been top of the pen cattle.

Twin Heritage Farms Red Angus
We are proud to be a part of the 10th Annual “Best of the Breeds” bull sale. Welcome and thank you to all previous buyers and bidders for your interest in our program.
The cattle industry has rebounded nicely since the first sale 10 years ago and the future looks promising. Markets are extremely strong and cattle producers are seeing some long overdue payback for their years of hard work and dedication. At Twin Heritage Farms, we feel as though our breeding program is going in the right direction to help you take advantage of the strong markets. We have put together an impressive group of top performing bulls and we couldn’t be more proud of the consistency and uniformity of the offering. We have a large number of bulls on offer from our feature herd sire, Red Howe Hustle 13X; exclusive genetics to Twin Heritage Farms. His sons are Allan & Ann - 306-849-4638 good footed, strong topped, wide based, easy fleshing, and have excellent testicle development. Study them well as the birth weights are moderate and the performance is abundant. We also have a few sons from a new herd sire, Red SSS Game On 170Y. These are the top performing kind and ones to watch for sale day. Whether you are looking for a yearling or two year old, we have a sound selection for your appraisal. Please bid with confidence as all the bulls have been developed with longevity in mind and are fully guaranteed. We have catalogued the bulls by herdsire grouping. We wanted to lead off the catalogue with a guy that we think is pretty special. He has a lot of the good things that we look for in a herd sire; depth of rib, excellent foot and testicle development, nice front end, strong top, and a moderate birth weight. He also moves extremely well and definitely caught Chris’s attention when he was out at the farm. His dam is one of our favorite cows and is a beautiful uddered Zama Pine daughter who is an Elite cow with the Angus Association. 25A is a feature bull and possibly one of the best we have raised. We were amazed when he stepped on the scale and almost rang up 1400 lbs on February 1. The cool thing is that he likely will be the heaviest bull come sale day, but is sporting an 85 lb birth weight. Sentes Farms
Red Angus
Sentes Farms is a 5th generation family farm operated by William and Lucille Sentes and their two sons Mark and Paul along with their families. Throughout the years of experience we have concentrated on the production of high quality animals, including both bulls and replacement females. We continue to do well with our replacement females at the Canadian Western Agribition with our Red Angus cross Simmental heifers. Along with this we were pleased to be presented with the Commercial Breeder of the year award from the Saskatchewan Simmental Association. Our bulls are raised ranch style, are fed out of the corral on mainly a forage diet during the winter and do not get any special treatment. We have been in the business for many years and we have a very strict cull policy. Our bulls do not get their feet trimmed. With a herd size of close to 800 breeding females we have zero tolerance for bad feet or bad udders. We do very little clipping, essentially only the head, so what you see is what you get. We have a wide range of styles and birth weights that can meet the needs of almost any beef program. Whether you are looking for replacement females or a new herd sire, we have what you are looking for. Feel free to stop by the farm anytime or get in contact with William, Mark, or Paul Sentes, for more information. Phone (306) 746 4482, (306) 746 7258 or email at sentes9@gmail.com

“All Two Year Old bulls must be picked up sale day or delivery will be made immediately after the sale” 14
Dogpatch Acres Charolais
Well the 10th annual Best of the Breeds Bull Sale has seen a complete 180° turn a far as the cattle industry goes. It is an exciting time to be a cattle producer. This year is the first in a long time that we have been excited to see our cattle cheques, with plenty of calves topping the $1,000.00 mark! As you recall, last winter started early and dragged on and on. Our calves were about 5 to 8 lbs larger than previous years right across the board, however did not cause any calving issues. I believe this is attributed to better quality feed and a lot more of it last winter.
We are very pleased to have on offer an exceptional pen of bulls this year. Most are sired by the Agribition Champion PCC Sudden Impact. His calves offer length, depth and performance while maintaining calving ease. We have a few bulls off Pleasant Dawn Rio 136X. This bull is versatile and can be used on cows and heifers. He offers calving ease and the performance we demand. There are also a few calves sired by bulls new to our herd. All the calves were weaned and weighed on October 22, 2013. The cows spent the summer
at John Perrot’s at Naicam. I want to thank him for managing our herd this summer and his expertise shows in our calf crop. Lastly, we stand behind our bulls. If there is a problem, we are there to remedy the situation. We are thankful for your continued support and will work hard to ensure you are happy with your purchase.

Wow! What a way to start 2014! Prices for calves, cull cows and slaughter animals are through the roof. Records are being set in every auction mart in the country, and Char-cross calves are leading the way! Now is the time to cash in. Don’t leave money on the table. All you need is a good, easy-calving outcross bull on your good commercial cow herd and let the money from those extra pounds flow into your pocket. The time is now to invest in your next herd bull. Remember more pounds at weaning means a lot more money in your pocket! We look forward to seeing all our past customers on March 30th and to meeting some new faces. We stand behind our cattle for as long as you need us. See you sale day!

Moderate, thick, and deep best describe this quiet son of 104Y. Here’s a bull that will be awesome on some good red females. Look at that low birth weight. Easy calving for sure!

Forden Fairview Farm Simmentals
Welcome to the 10th Annual Best of the Breeds Bull Sale. We would like to take this opportunity to extend a big thank you to all our customers for their support of our breeding program over the years. It is the opportunity to work with you year after year that make this business rewarding. We’ve been raising Simmental cattle since 1976 and bred about 100 purebred & fullblood females each year. At FFF, our focus continues to be raising bulls with performance, natural thickness, maternal strength, calving ease and most of all a quiet disposition. Again this year there is a large contingent of bulls off Double Bar D Legend 87W, our Polled Full Fleckvieh herdsire. Fleckvieh cattle are increasingly more popular with commercial cattlemen as they put more pounds on your calves. With more cattlemen calving Mar/Apr/May, Fleckvieh bulls allow you to calve later and still have big steers to sell into the fall calf market. Also this year is a greater selection of bulls off NLC Upgrade, a homozygous polled, homozygous black AI bull from Genex that puts lots of hip and rib in his calves. Our top red bulls are again off SVS Redstream whose sons were the top selling red bulls at last year’s sale. All bulls are Express Verified as our cows receive Express 5 pre-breeding. The calves receive Pyramid FP4 Presponse plus blackleg vaccination in spring and Pyramid FP4 Presponse plus Fermicon7/somnugen in the fall. All bulls will also receive vaccination (2x) of fusogard for prevention of foot rot. We’d like to invite everyone to our Bull Pen Open House at the farm March 22 & 23 from 1-5 PM. This is a great opportunity to view the bulls in their environment as well as walk through our cow herd to see the maternal strength that comes along with these bulls. Feel free to call/text Lyle (306-290-5953), Farm (306-835-2645) or email us(forden@sasktel.net) for more information. Lyle, Leanne, Carter& DeclanForden Ken &TwilaForden

There is performance on both sides of this pedigree. We often create the red blaze bulls by using Legend on our red cows but thought we’d try the reverse with using Redstream on some Fleckvieh cows and it really clicked. When visitors stop in to look at bulls they can’t help but examine Rambo as he is extremely thick, moderate framed and the quietest bull in the pen. His dam is a consistent producer that has left us many females in our full fleck program. He was the top ranking bull at yearling time and I’m sure will tip the scales down on sale day.
Non-diluter.

Here is a powerful herd bull prospect. Razor is the result of another Redstream x fleckvieh cow combination. He weaned off his dam on Sept 30th at 945 lbs. He displays serious thickness across his top and down into his hind quarters. One has to appreciate the spring of rib on these Redstream sons, not to mention their testicular development.Razor was part of our string in the Stock Exchange and Bull Pen Alley at Agribition where he had many friends. The EPDs on this bull for WWT and YWT are in the top 25% and 20% of the breed respectively. Non-diluter.

HOMOZYGOUS POLLED. Bauer is one of the few Louisville sons in the sale. These will be
the last of the Louisville sons on offer as we sold him after 6 seasons. When we sold him he still had the best feet and legs we have ever seen in a herd bull. Louisville sons have extra length and solid performance. If you are looking to produce blazed face calves for the market, this bull will do just that as the blaze is very strong in this cow family. Non-diluter.

Double Bar D Legend 87W 75% FLECKVIEH. Kronos is dark cherry red with eye appeal and style. He is long, deep, thick and wide topped. Legend himself is very heavily muscled and he passes this thickness onto his calves. You can tell which calves are Legend calves as they display natural thickness and width from a young age. This bull has really small scurs but will still throw polled calves and you won’t see them on heifers. Kronos was the second highest gaining bull on test and second ranking bull at yearling time. Marcus. PowerPlay is not the biggest in structure but is well made and structurally sound. His low birth weight and calving ease numbers put him near the top of the breed for calving ease and birth weight EPDs. His dam always calves trouble free and has a nice tidy udder. He is non-diluter so you could breed him to some black cows and get those blazed faced calves that carry a premium in the market. Non-diluter.

Appollo is a soft made, soggy bull with lots of middle. Over the years we have found that using Legend on our Tank daughters makes some real good bulls and excellent replacement females. Legend adds performance while Tank daughters are excellent mothers with perfect udders. The dam goes back to our Erica 11E cow thatis the foundation of our red program at FFF. There have been nearly 30 females in our herd at one time or another that go back to his cow. Non-diluter.

HETEROZYGOUS BLACK. Cattlemen here is a unique opportunity for your next herdsire.
A ¾ fleckvieh bull that is black. Right from birth this bull was a stand out. We often joked that we could serve dinner on his back as a calf as he was that wide. Being that he is a twin, he’s not the biggest bull in the sale but he is thick butted and wide topped. He goes back to our 58K cow that has left many females in our herd and had top bulls in this sale. A maternal brother sold to Dean Benko of Punnichy in last year’s sale.

HOMOZYGOUS POLLED & HETEROZYGOUS BLACK. This is the last black son
off our great Louisville bull to sell. Easton combines Louiville, Tank and a fleckvieh influence dam. The result is a bull that has length, good spring of rib, overall thickness, calving ease and lots of hair. His dam comes from the strong maternal pedigree of our Supreme Lady 21F family. These females are loaded with fertility, femininity and milk. Expect it to be hard to part with Easton’s daughters.

Mr NLC Upgrade U8676 HOMOZYGOUS POLLED & HETEROZYGOUS BLACK. This bull is a son of Genex’s
NLC Upgrade bull from the states. These Upgrade sons are true curve benders as they are born easy and on their own and have some of the best performance we’ve seen in black bulls. We are very impressed with the depth of body, square hip and fullness of quarter on our Upgrade bulls. On the Dam’s side, if you’ve been following our sale for a few years you will know what we think of our Explosion (red payoff) daughters. They are awesome! Deep bodied cows with excellent udders and lots of milk. This bull goes back to our Erica 11E cow who has had the most prolific impact in our herd of any cow. Torro was part of our black pen of bull at Agribtionwhere they placed second in class.

HOMOZYGOUS POLLED & HETEROZYGOUS BLACK. Maximo is another Upgrade
son off a first calf heifer. Some cattlemen say the most powerful genetics come from first calf heifers and I can see why. His CE and BW EPDs are such that you could use him on heifers yet his performance EPDs are in the top 20% of the breed. Maximo is a pen favourite with visitors at the farm and I expect the same on sale day. Also part of our pen at Agrition that were second in class.

HOMOZYGOUS POLLED & HETEROZYGOUS BLACK. Diego is a powerful bull that is
long spined, square hipped and deep bodied. His actual weaning weight on Sept 30th was 902lbs. His dam is a Louisville daughter with a perfect udder and goes back to our Erica 11E cow that I’ve mentioned a few times! Also part of our 2nd in class pen at Agribition.
