WELCOME FROM ELK RIDGE FARMS

It is with great excitement that I welcome you to our 1st annual bull and female sale! It always amazes me how fast time flies. We have been in the commercial cattle business all our lives, where we run around 350 mainly simm/angus females with my parents and brother. It was 3 years ago that we started putting together a plan to get into the purebred Angus business, and here we are today, getting ready for our first sale.

I am extremely proud of the set of purebred angus females that we have put together these past few years. We have travelled extensively and stretched our wallets to ensure we select the best females for our operation. Quality females are what is required to produce sound and productive herd bulls and replacement females. We strive to emphasize reproductive and maternal traits, performance, and docility in all our animals. Our goal is to have a herd of cows that gets bred on time every year, weans a well-structured, high performing calf, and is easy to handle. We implement strict culling procedures if an individual does not meet our expectations. We have used AI in our commercial herd for several years, and the top end of these cows are quite impressive. As my brother, Trevor, says “you can breed these cows to whatever breed of bull you want, and they will raise you an awesome calf”. Whether you are seeking bulls or replacement females, I believe you will not be disappointed with our offering. There is a selection of calving ease, performance oriented, and curve bending genetics on offer. The mothers of our angus offering are mainly first and second calvers and have produced tremendous calves for being so young. The Simmental cross bulls are from the top of our commercial herd. Their moms and grandmas have earned their way to the top of our list of commercial females by raising big calves year in and year out that sell by the pound. As a result, you can buy these bulls with confidence that they will go into your herd and make you some awesome calves. The females we are offering are right from the top of our calf crop. We should be keeping a good portion of this offering, but we believe we need to promote our brand by letting you obtain some of these females for yourself. They are truly a very special set of heifers. Please do not hesitate to call about any questions you have on any of the sale lots, and if you have the time, stop in, and have a look for yourself. There are few people in the business that have the enthusiasm, foresight, and persistence towards building a program that the Bartkiw family have exhibited. These traits do not only apply to their mindset in terms of purebred livestock, but also to their large diversified farming operation as a whole; they are driven by agriculture through and through. A significant amount of knowledge, work, and sheer trust in the process has led to Wade and his family hosting the first ever sale at the farm headquarters. It is clear that we live in times where maternal merit and cow power reign supreme in building a program and subsequent offering, which makes it extremely exciting to be offering daughters of the royally bred females that Wade has acquired. PEDIGREE ESTIMATES: Pedigree Estimates (PE) are created on the projected mating of the animal’s sire and dam based on averages of the two, creating estimated calues that do not hold the same accuracy of actual EPDs issued from the association and should be used as such. HEALTH: All animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements. GUARANTEE: Each animal becomes the purchaser’s risk immediately after the animal is sold. All animals in this sale will be sold under the terms and guarantees set forth by the Canadian Angus Association with regard to health, freedom from defects and from both reproductive and specific genetic unsoundness. PREGNANCY INFORMATION: All serviceable age females have been pregnancy examined by an

accredited veterinarian, giving an estimated length of gestation. This estimated gestation period shall be used only as a guideline to calving and is not a guarantee of actual service.
