496 COUNTY ROAD 8, DOURO, ON

WELCOME Welcome to the third edition of the Leahy Select Simmental Sale. We want to first thank all the bidders, buyers, and interested breeders who have carried us to this point. Your support is truly appreciated.

We are in a time of great optimism in the cattle business, which as a young breeder is truly gratifying to experience. With that in mind, we have dug very deep in our sale offering this year, offering fullblood, black, and red cattle from our very top end. This year, we are leading off with a polled Full Fleck heifer which is very right for the times. In our opinion, you’d need to travel many miles to find her better. The bred heifer pen is truly exciting, with services to cutting edge sires such as Mader Big Energy and TCCO Tonic. These red cattle are riding high on a wave of popularity, both with commercial cattlemen and in purebred circles. We have on offer a trio of black heifer calves with bright futures ahead, all backed by powerful dams of note. Whether as show prospects or breeding pieces, these heifers bring a lot of excitement to the table. Rounding out our offering this year are two extra age bulls; stout, long bodied, and attractive in design. The extra age this pair offers will be an asset come breeding season. They sell semen tested and ready to work. New this year, we have added some unique genetic opportunities to the lineup. We welcome back Academy Hill with another strong consignment of well bred and presented cattle, as well as a powerful heifer from Madison Webster, a keen young breeder who has sourced several females from us. Thanks again to Ben Wright and the TBarC crew for their assistance. Ben is quite familiar with our program and is glad to assist with any inquiries. Please feel free to reach out with any questions to either Bernard or myself. We are glad to tour you through the sale offering at your convenience, and share some hospitality on sale day.

Saturday, November 18th at 10 AM EST Closing at 7 PM EST VIEWING All day Saturday November 18th Opens 10 AM EST, Closes 7 PM EST At the farm - Douro, ON

T BAR... FROM THE DESK AT

When we say that the Leahy family has deep ties to the land that they farm, we are discussing two centuries of raising livestock in the rolling hills of the Douro Township. The Leahy farm has gone through many evolutions since its establishment in 1825, with Patrick and his young family being the new generation at the helm of this longstanding operation. To withstand 200 years in the farming and livestock sector, you must be adaptable to the waves of change that are so prevalent within the industry, but also be steadfast in raising cattle for true function and profit. The Leahy’s have a keen eye and mindset to accomplish this, with also a heavy emphasis on longevity and eye appeal for today’s modern market. The offering for the 2023 edition of their production sale is saturated with fullblood and purebred bulls and females that are bred with the Leahy stamp of functionality and eye-appeal, with pedigrees and services that are current and right for the times. If Fullblood Foundation females are on your wish list, I would tell you to examine the Lot 1 open heifer and put an end to your search. Tying natural thickness and explosive growth together with soundness and fluid movement in the well pigmented package, she is an anomaly. If black purebreds are more your speed, there is a Bankroll heifer calf as Lot 3 that as her name suggests, will dance. With a look that will demand your attention and backed by a maternally made yet unique pedigree, she will be a lot of fun to have on halter on the tan chips and then watch her leave you profit in the pasture. Leahy’s have also provided the opportunity to get your bull shopping done early and done right. Both Full Blood and Black White-Faced future herd sires that promise calving ease while not sacrificing thickness, power, and an extra dose of soundness. Back this year are guest’s Academy Hill, who dug deep into their herd to offer a powerhouse bred heifer and beautifully made heifer calf. The red bred female is described as “easy doing and she is easy going.” Sounds like all the ingredients of a herd bull making recipe are there to me. We are also eager to welcome a consignment from Madison Webster of Webster Farms this year. This keen young cattlewoman has sourced females from the Leahy’s over the past few years and has brought to us a powerfully made female with an extra touch of length. I am proud to have known the Leahy family for a number of years, and I can honestly say that they run their cattle in as close to an ideal fashion as you could ask. Patrick is a sharp and astute cattleman with an eye for detail and an upbeat, positive attitude. Of course, I heavily endorse and recommend the offering based on their quality and merit. But perhaps more importantly, I believe that the young Leahy family represents the good of this business.

Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account. It allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots, or someone challenges your proxy bid. This is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number.

If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions, simply enter your username and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions. Select the LEAHY SELECT SIMMENTAL ONLINE PRODUCTION SALE. 2. You can choose your favourite lots in the sale at this time. The program will allow you to open either all sale lots, or just your favorite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list, you will get a text and/ or an email noting this activity. 3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you. But if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again, or moving your attention to a second lot of interest. 4. At closing time of the sale, the entire sale will extend bidding for 5 minutes if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after 6 PM will extend the sale by 5 minutes, from the time of that bid. When no bidding occurs for 5 minutes, the computer will declare the sale finished. 5. Within 24 hours of the sale close, the sale consignor will contact all winning bidders to arrange payment, transfer of pedigrees and delivery/pick up of your lot. If you require assistance with using the new DLMS Farm Gate web site, if you don’t understand how to create a favorites list or proxy bid, or you just plain want to bid via phone, please talk to any of the DLMS team.

She moves freely on a clean jointed set of legs, as her name would suggest, striking the ground squarely with just the right amount of flex in her foot. Her dam was a high selling bred in the Skors dispersal, and impresses us with her mass, easy nature, and excellent maternal ability. In terms of pedigree, we have a unique twist here crossing the structural appeal and showring look of W/C Bankroll with the mass and power which the Full Throttle and Skors cattle were known for. Stout, sharp, and super showy in her design, this heifer comes from a proven track record, and like her mother has an intriguing splash of white around the mouth. Last year, two of her maternal sisters were Junior Champion and Champion Female for the Mastine family at Expo Boeuf, while her two most recent brothers were standouts in our first two sales, selling to Manitoba and topping our bulls last year to Hagermans. On her sire’s side, watch for extra maternal power stemming from Kendra 57B, whose influence is on display throughout this year’s sale.

Her dam stems from the famed FGAF Barbarella 845Y, who produced sale toppers year after year at the Autumn Classic for Car-Laur Simmentals, while last year’s brother is walking the green pastures of Ennismore for Ed Young. Here’s a well balanced February heifer from an excellent IRCC first calver who has knocked it out of the park for us, raising our best black bull calf this year. Moderate in frame, clean structured and smooth moving, Karla is set to follow in her mother’s footsteps as a no-nonsense brood female. Most exciting here is her service to Mader’s Big Energy, the Betts-Darlin’ sensation who captured the championship title at both Farmfair and Agribition last year and is cutting a wide swath this fall again. Limited semen packages were sold on Big Energy last year at the New Year’s Resolution sale and Lots 9 and 10 will be, as far as my research serves, the first service to him to sell. Here’s an opportunity to get in on the ground floor with what is shaping up to be one of the hottest bulls in the breed.
