Greetings from Arthur, Ontario, Canada. The home of us, Elgin and Joan Craig, and our Red Maple Speckle Park herd. We established our herd in November 2015 and have enjoyed the years since as we sure believe in the Speckle Park breed and have wonderful friendships with other Speckle Park breeders around the world.

We welcome you to review this sale catalogue and we hope it reads to you as a true life story of the development of a top quality Speckle Park herd. We used top genetic lines of both females and males from successful herds to establish our own purebred herd. We have attended shows, taken tours and walked pastures in an effort to get to know the overall herd book with a look to the past, recognition of what’s working well currently and the incredible future this breed has here in Canada and internationally. Most importantly, we’ve learned from people who willingly shared their knowledge, their lessons and their dreams. We’ve enjoyed almost 8 years of being Canadian Speckle Park breeders and while our initial goal was 10 years sometimes life presents decisions that have to be made. We can definitely say that we’re happy with the herd we’ve been able to build together in those years. So take a look through the catalogue, come to the farm for a pre-visit if you can, give us a call, ask us for our opinions, meet up with us in Hanover on the 27th of October for a pre-sale herd view and then for sure join us on sale day – October 28th either in-person or online.

We’ve built our herd based on breeding and developing cow families. Our initial purchase of 12 seedstock purebred females from Johner Stock Farm gave us an essential base to grow from. Today we have 6 of those original females in our herd. That speaks highly of the quality and longevity of our first purchases. They are brood cows extraordinaire. Since then, we have been fortunate to make solid purchases from a few other herds to add into our genetics. Several of these females are now brood cows as well with established family lines.

As we progressed, we used the very best bulls we could afford always selecting from sound cow families. This resulted in leading herd bull purchases and optimal A.I. use. Our reference bull listing can be found later in the catalogue.

We’ve focused on developing quality udders, sound mobility, easy keeping animals with the ability to do well on forage. We operate with a rotational pasture program for approximately half the year and the remainder of the year the cattle are in yards close up to the barn and are fed hay. Other overall goals have been performance, efficiency and the production of an end product of exceptional meat.

A Closing Comment – One of the greatest rewards of cattle breeding is to see animals from your herd go on to new owners and make a positive difference in their herd and the success of their own breeding. FROM THE DESK AT T BAR...

Truly a feature event in the Speckle Park breed this fall is the dispersion of the Red Maple herd. Elgin, Joan and family have assembled a fantastic core of cattle for fellow breeders to evaluate that are down right impressive to see in the flesh. This comes as no surprise as the Craig family literally mastered the Holstein world and had one of the most successful dispersals this province has ever seen with those genetics still carrying on topping sales and winning some of the most decorated shows. No different in their efforts towards Speckle Park.

This family takes no short cuts and have built a cowherd out of solid maternal traits that are so evident once you scroll through this catalogue. The emphasis on cow families can be quickly found as well, with the cattle being grown out on forage-based rations only, you’ll love to see how easy doing and well maintained this herd is. Another key thing you’ll witness on these cattle is the disposition. Trained to single wire fences, these cattle are gentle natured and a pleasure to deal with, which again comes as no surprise as this family are true “cattle people”.

Over the years, culling has been a must as they don’t keep or rebreed cattle with anything problematic in any way shape or form. The feet and udders are one of the first criteria’s they look over so rest assured that part is more than taken care of. But probably the most important part of purebred cattle is the people behind them. Elgin & Joan are students of purebred cattle. They understand the business and carry a wealth of knowledge not only in Speckle Park but marketing and creating a product that will go on to turn into a solid investment for their new owners.

As this is a dispersal sale, all cattle sell with no further guarantee. Any known defects will be announced before the cattle are sold.

Certificate of Registration:

Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Speckle Park Association unless otherwise specified. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

Health:

All animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements, cow herd is on a full herd health program.

Insurance:

Will be available sale day. We strongly recommend that insurance is purchased for full value.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Liabilities:

All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The seller, facility owner and sale manager assume no liability legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur. It is understood that T Bar C Cattle Co. (2013) Ltd. is acting only as a medium between buyer and seller and is not responsible for any failure on the part of either party to live up to his obligations. T Bar C Cattle Co. (2013) Ltd. does not assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of any monies between parties and any legal action that may in exceptional cases be taken must be between the buyer and the seller. T Bar C Cattle Co. (2013) Ltd. assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfillment of all guarantees and representations made hereunder.

Rights & Obligations:

The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.

Phone, Wire, Mail Bids:

Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone, wire or mail their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

Delivery:

We will assist in arranging transportation wherever possible. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

Errors:

All announcements at sale time, written or oral, supersede any written material in the catalogue.
