9TH ANNUAL SIMMENTAL BULL & FEMALE SALE

SATURDAY,MARCH 22, 2025 AT LEEWOOD RANCH MANNVILLE, AB - 1PM MST

Welcome from Leewood Ranch

On behalf of everyone at Leewood Ranch we invite you to our 9th annual Leewood Ranch Bull & Female sale. Thank you to all our customers over this past year and to all our past customers over the last decade.

We also need to give a big shout out to our hired hands Shea and our immigrate worker, Sara. There is no way I could calve out 480 cows and grain farm 1000ac without these two. Shea started with us 3 years ago and was told she can’t quit for 60 years (I was also told that by Laramie.God help us when she runs this thing). Shea can do anything on the ranch but sometimes I have to give her a “let daddy do for you” lol. Sara helped us calve in 2022 and came back in the fall of 2023 to help harvest. So she is part of the family now and doesn’t get any breaks on getting roasted or scared.

This will be the first calf crop off our two black blaze herd sires MAVV Hollar Back 13K and Sun Star Knockout 48K. Both have sired sons with performance, correct structure, vigor and a few white strips as a bonus. We also bought a share back on one of our 2023 high sellers, Leewood RS Loverboy 38K, this will be his first crop of bulls off our first calvers. A very easy calving sire that adds performance and the daughters are top of the pen also. The Fullblood pen is smaller this year with 75% of the fullblood cows having heifers in 2024. A few bulls sired the new but old bull Leewood FF Josey 7E, a bull we bought back from a customer as a 5 year old. Josey bred for us this spring and then made his way south to Golden Dawn Farms in Iowa. This year we have a very big selection of low birth bulls and several I think will work well on heifers.

We have only sold purebred heifers once before and decided to pick out a few this year to sell alongside the commercial heifers. There should be something for everyone come sale day.

We hope to see you MARCH 22 at the ranch!

LEEWOOD RANCH 9th ANNUAL SIMMENTAL BULL & FEMALE SALE SATURDAY, MARCH 22, 2025 @ 2 pm MST

Colt, Shannon, Cole, Laramie-Lynn and Coy Arnold
Debbie Arnold
Sara and Shea

On behalf of Colt and his family, we invite you to the most honest raised bulls you’ll see all throughout the season! Big sire groups and a whole bunch of Bulls created from 1st calvers, accentuates this bull pen.

Colt and his family raise “ranching” cattle. If you want seedstock that work, in the real world, have a big, and long look here please! In the summer months, these cattle run in vast pastures that the Arnold Family have access too.

Also, the performance once placed on a regitimated, but still a responsible, feed program, they naturally gain, is a virtue of the program. Colt has it bred into him to, and lives by this, to have bulls that last for a long time for the customer base. These people have been bull customers of many others from their own experiences! Their own commercial cowherd provides this info to them.

Some registered heifers, with long living ancestry, will also be offered. These are just the teasers to the 80+ commercial heifers sorted by color and size for your herd or bred heifer sale will be offered.

Please join us with the Arnold Family’s annual bull & heifer sale on this Saturday style sale. If you have any questions, please let me know, or need buyer assistance, hence, in your absence, call our cell phones listed.

All bulls will be semen tested before the sale. Bulls are tested for sperm motility, morphology and are also subjected to a physical exam. They are checked for any scrotal, penis and other physical problems that would affect their ability to breed. Any bulls failing these tests will not be at the sale. Any semen deferred bulls have been tested and have been deemed by the vet to mostly likely pass a semen test at a later date. These bulls usually fail, due to age or weather problems.

POLLED TESTING

A select number of bulls will be Homo Polled tested. Homo polled = no horns on any Calves Hetero polled = 50% polled calves on horned cows

COLOUR TESTING

Some black bulls will be tested for colour expression. Homo black bulls will not sire any red calves. The fullbloods and a select few red bulls will be diluter tested. Bulls testing diluter free can be crossed with black cows and will not give you any grey calves.

Abbrev. Description Units

YW- Yearling Weight (WW + PWG) MCE- Total Maternal Calving Ease

BWM- Birth Weight Maternal Milk –Milk

EPD Breed Averages Spring 2025

The bull feeding program is built to maximize forage utilization, gut health and as a result quality sperm production. Nutritional status of a bull, particularly from the previous 60-days can affect the semen quality being ejaculated today. Sperm production is a continuous process and proper nutrition is critical to maintain peak fertility and longevity of bulls. Bull calves are generally developed on grass with their mom’s on a quality mineral program.

Once bull calves are weaned, they are slowly moved onto a balanced TMR. The bulls are challenged with a forage-based TMR to help them develop and express their genetic potential. This is important for consistency of maturation and puberty of bull calves. Sampling and analyzing forages are important for properly balancing the overall

The Bulls were weaned later than usual this year and were put back on grass until early November. In November they were started on a TMR ration consisting of triticale silage, cereal straw, rolled oats and mineral/protein supplement from Bullseye Feeds. The purebred and commercial heifers were weaned in early November and put on fall grazing until Dec 15th. They then started on a TMR ration.

HEALTH

All bulls will be vet checked, scrotal measured, weighed and semen tested. All sale cattle are on a full heath program. Our calves receive vitamin AD&E and Selenium at birth. Around a week of age calves receive the vaccine Bovilis Nasalgen. Before being turned out on grass calves are given Vira Shield 6 + Somnus and Covexin Plus. At weaning bulls are given Vista Once SQ, Vision 8 Somnus. Any questions on health protocols please contact Leewood Ranch.

ration. Forage quality and digestibility are important for maximizing ruminal health. Matching suitable protein sources with proper starch with the available forage sources is key to promoting lean muscle growth. The addition of organic minerals are used to ensure proper immune function and overall health of bulls. All of these factors contribute to semen quality and conception within a herd.

If you have any questions about the nutrition program, please feel free to reach out. Buy with confidence knowing the bulls have been developed on a balanced nutrition program.

Best of luck on sale day!

• 30M is top 5% for CE and top 5% for bw and like his brothers still has power to add the lbs

• The Fast Money calves all have that vigor and get up and go. I worry about 70lb calves at -30C but we put a toque on them and they go.

• If you have a big group of heifers to breed grab them both

• 6M will be a powerful herd sire that can make great females but still add pounds to the steers come fall.

• Dam is Great Grand dam to LWR 57M

• Full sister is our top fullblood first calver. Very good uddered and just a power house female

• All our Josey Daughters have good udders and have been good producers.

FULLBLOOD AND PUREBRED HEIFERS

These heifers are fed beside our replacement heifers and will be in good condition but not fat. We really focus on our cows to have correct structure with good udders that are easy doing and highly fertile. In 2024 we bred 104 heifers for 60 days and had 2 open. I’m hoping these heifers can last for years for their new owners, so we won’t be pushing them.

HORNED FULLBLOOD

• Dark red granddaughter of the great Anchor ‘T’ Barbi 46K cow

• We had a few people ask about buying this heifer off the cow but I had her marked for the keeper pen.

• This heifer will be the type I’ll probably regret selling
