It’s a rewarding time to be a rancher. Subsequently, we’ve likely all had a moment where we wished past generations who endured less prosperous times were here to enjoy the excellent conditions of today. Wanting them to be present to enjoy these better times acknowledges that ranching is generational. Earlier generations’ investments of time, effort, money, and knowledge contributed towards today’s success. It is important we invest in our herds today for upcoming generations. A few years ago, we decided to invest in herd sires with a little more frame standing on a solid foot to compliment the hardiness and docility of our herd. Our cows must remain sound and in good condition while wintering in the hills with supplemental feed, calving on pasture with minimal support from us, and rebreeding while raising a quality calf. We also require them to be easy to handle despite spending their lives on pasture with minimal human contact. We purchased HF Two Wraps 12H from Hamilton Farms in 2021 and Northern View Super Duty 102J from Northern View Angus in 2022. Both bulls have been fruitful investments towards future generations of our cattle. Our weaning weights and yearling weights have increased despite the drier pasture conditions of the last couple years. Last spring, we calved out the first daughters of Two Wraps and were pleased with their udders and performance as mothers. They will definitely add some frame size to our herd. We are looking forward to the first Super Duty heifers calving this spring. They are a fancy set who should turn into some broody dams.
As always, this group of sale bulls were born on pasture and remained with their mothers until October 30th without any creep feed. After weaning, they were on a mixed ration of hay, silage, and malt sprout pellets. In June, they went back out to pasture where they stayed until late December. We started feeding the bulls a few pellets in September and a mixed ration in early October as we believe in supplementing declining pasture to keep the bulls developing at a gradual pace. In November, the bulls were switched to their current blend of hay, silage, and a textured grain ration designed for bull development. We are proud to bring this generation of bulls to the sale. We understand the risk involved in selecting a herd sire. We are investing in our herds and future in order to persevere in the tough times and capitalize on the good times. In a world of efficiency, we focus on cattle that will walk soundly the duration of their lives, milk, breed, and maintain their condition without any maintenance. This leads to fewer cull cows, requiring fewer heifer calves retained, maximizing calf production. When you’re shopping Bear Creek Angus two year old bulls, we’ve done our utmost to ensure all of these things in their breeding and we strive for every bull to go out and improve the genetics at your operation.
When the structure, udder quality, and fertility is taken care of we breed for length of body, eye appealing angus character, including an angus head which promotes calving ease, and lots of natural muscle. When selecting a sire, we try to use a bull with the fewest flaws.
Our environment changes what type of cattle work where and on what inputs. Our cattle are raised on ranch conditions and are developed slowly to ensure longevity. Conditions can be harsh in our drought-prone area, cattle need to travel for grass and water, and thus we’ve become extremely harsh on foot quality and fleshing ability as we mentioned above. We solely make our living raising cattle, commercial and purebred, and our cattle work for us because we need them to. And we believe they can work for you too.

75H was lost after his second year of breeding unfortunately to injury, yet his positive impact on our herd will be felt. HEIFER BULL I really like this bull, he’s grown into an ideal herd sire, while being able to breed heifers. His mother is a very good cow, lots of length and body, with solid feet and an excellent udder. We kept a half brother to use in our own program, and this bull has turned out just as good as the one we are keeping.
TERMS OF SALE: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, made payable in Canadian funds immediately after the sale. The right of ownership shall not pass from seller to buyer until settlement is made. As soon as the animal is sold it becomes the responsibility of the purchaser.
BREEDING GUARANTEE: All cattle are sound and sell with a responsible breeder guarantee of satisfaction. In the event any bull 14 months of age or over fails to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, within six months of the sale date, may be returned to the seller at the buyers expense. The seller reserves the privilege of trying to prove that animal a breeder. Full settlement and satisfaction of all claims is the option of the seller (whether return of the purchase price or replacement of the animal with one of equal value.) Any animal returned must be free of disease and in good health.
CATTLE INSPECTION: All carry permanent identity tags corresponding to the sale lot numbers. All shall be available for inspection prior to the sale.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: All announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to any announcements.
DISPUTES: In the case of disputes bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The Auctioneer’s decision in such matters is final.
LIABILITIES: All people who attend the sale do so at their own risk. The owners, Management and Sale Staff assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for property loss or any accidents that may occur on or about the premises.
CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: A certificate of registry duly transferred will be Furnished to the buyer by the breeder for each registered animal after settlement has been made.
