Welcome from Wilbar Cattle Co. The ‘welcome’ might be the hardest part of putting the sale catalogue together. There’s a lot we want to capture in it – acknowledgment of all that’s happened in the past year, a bit about how the bulls are raised, new genetics and, most importantly, gratitude to our customers and supporters that have gotten us to our 27th Annual Tools of the Trade bull sale. 2021 was a bit of a record year for us. We were blown away by the results of our bull sale. Kylie and Owen had an incredibly successful year showing their heifers, taking turns winning the buckles and banners everywhere they went. Our promotion of Wilbar Greenlight 839H saw him go undefeated in his age division, make the final 5 & 10 in the Supremes of Farmfair & Agribition and become our highest ever selling bull at $34,000 for ½ interest to Dudgeon Cattle of Ontario, only to die unexpectedly in early December. But our year did not end on that sad note, it finished off with an incredibly successful Opportunity Knocks female sale. So, here we sit, staring down the barrel of 2022 with optimism, new goals and evermore gratitude for each of you who take the time to consider or invest in our program.
Bryan, Tracey, Kylie & Owen
We have put together an impressive set of bulls for you. The black pen offers the incredible second set of South Point sons and the first group of Custom Made sons. Our black choice offering pairs those sire options with the impeccable Wilbar Mayflower 409E. In addition, you’ll see a repeat performance by Executive Decision as well as a new sire group from the Alta bull, RBM Rave.
On the red side of things, there are unique and impressive outcross options. As a breed, Red Angus is hungry for new bloodlines and we’ve been working at turning some black genetics red. It’s a long row to hoe, but we are not willing to just go with the first red one that shows up. The reds coming out of our outcross program need to be of the quality to advance our program and yours. We hope you agree the lead off red bulls offer a lot more than just some different bloodlines on their papers. Senior herdsire, Motivate, has returned another impressive group to the sale pen and his son, Inspiration, blew us away with what he brought to the table. The always reliable spread bull, Element, has a high quality trio of sons and new sire, Glenfiddich, sired consistent calving ease options. As in previous years, the bulls have been developed on a forage based diet with longevity in mind. The ration contains cereal silage, brown oats, tub ground hay and the Bullseye protein/mineral supplement to ensure proper growth & development. We find this ration promotes overall health, hair growth, foot quality, fertility and libido. The commercial heifers on offer are a uniform, quality group from our spring calving program. These cattle summer up north, near Choiceland. They are all out of straight Angus or Red Angus cows and our own bulls. The feedback we’ve received over the years about the quality of these heifers is extremely positive. The bulls are sire verified, fertility tested, carcass evaluated and performance tested. Our goal is to provide you all the information required to make the best selection to fit your needs. Please come by ahead of the sale for a tour of the sale group, their mothers, sisters and the commercial heifers. Coffee’s always on and the beer’s always cold. We look forward to seeing you sale day, but once again, the sale will be on DLMS and we or any of our sale staff would be happy to look after you in the event you can’t be here. Thank you,
Bryan, Tracey, Kylie and Owen Willms
From The Desk At T Bar Welcome to the 27th Annual “Tools of the Trade” Angus Bull and Female Sale on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, presented by Wilbar Cattle Co., at their ranch headquarters just east of Dundurn, Saskatchewan. Wilbar was established in 1963 and this multi-generational Angus family has been supplying high quality bulls for decades. Over the years, they have built a powerful, prolific cow herd based on the propagation of dominant cow families. In this new generation, Bryan and Tracey have incorporated embryo transplant into their operation with outstanding success… you will find this exciting success as you go through the sale offering. The Wilbar program is predictable in production and dominant in show ring circles. The 57 yearling bulls are powerful and exciting… headlined by the first sons of new added herd sires. The Black bulls feature the first sons of “Custom Made”, a large lineup of sons by the North American Champion “South Point”, sons of the proven and exciting “Executive Decision” and sons of the out-cross “Rave”. As you go through the outstanding black offering you will find many breeder quality opportunities and the Reds are full of uniformity in type and quality with several exciting herd bull prospects in the group. Genetic diversity is abundant… the new “Black Ink” and “Red Blood”; “Motivate” and his son “Inspiration”, “Elements” and the first sons of “Glenfiddich” … a dynamic pen of bulls! The eight age-advantaged bulls are both Red and Black, grass raised and designed to cover more cows and rough pastures. These virgin bulls are always held back for their customer service ... should an unforeseen problem arise. The commercial females are made up of thirty April/May born heifers, straight-bred Angus sired by Wilbar bulls. This female offering is ideal for adding a uniform package of highly maternal females to your replacement pasture … females of this quality will be difficult to obtain in the months to come. Feel free to stop by the ranch anytime prior the sale and preview this outstanding lineup or give Bryan a call and discuss the bulls that will fit your breeding requirements. Plan to be with us in Dundurn, Saskatchewan for your “Tools of the Trade” whether it be with us in person, online or on the phone. We have graded the entire offering so feel free to give any of the T Bar C Team a call and we will be pleased to assist you in a professional and confidential manner with your selections.

He might be the youngest bull in the black pen this year but you’d never guess looking at him. This is Owen’s bull, one that he’s very proud of and to be honest, so am I. The muscle, spine, depth, width and bone structure are all impressive. His gentle disposition reminds us of his gorgeous dam that hails from our productive Mayflower cow family. She is a donor cow that has 2 other sons in the sale that are all features. The granddam, 507B is also a donor cow and mother of last years $20,000 high seller to Everblack. He is one of the top indexing bulls in our offering scoring 121 at weaning and 113 at yearling, ranking him in the top percentiles of the breed for performance. Come see for yourself folks, he is impressive! Terms: Offered as choice with Lot 2. Buyer has the option to choose 50% possession & 50% interest in both bulls OR 100% possession & 50% interest in one bull. Call for more details.

His stride is powerful and comes with ease on a well structured foot and leg. Juncture is proud in his stance, demanding your attention. The dam, 409E, is a maternal sister to the $20,000 Wilbar Executive Order 835H and has 5 sisters already in production here at Wilbar. A full brother to lots 2 & 3 sold to Darcy Frankl, SK last year. A sire hasn't proven his own worth until he out produces himself. Well in 45J's case, I think South Point has done it! Terms: Offered as choice with Lot 1. A stout made ET son of South Point. His dam was the high selling heifer calf in the 2019 Keystone Classic sale in Brandon, Mb. Selling to Glen Gabel Angus. We retained a flush in 714G and this is how we ended up with this bull. 714G later sold as the high selling cow in Glen’s dispersal sale to Twisted Sisters with a full brother to 40J selling as one of the high selling bull calves to Hall’s Cattle Co. We think the South Point/Rewind combination really works well to create very complete cattle with calving ease, maternal and performance. Don’t mind the birth weight on this guy as his recipient dam is known to add a little birth to her calves. I would say he’ll calve closer to what his EPD tabulation says. Top 10% for calving ease and top 20% for birth weight.

Highly regarded as one of the best sons of the famous Natural Law, Executive Decision has won our vote. He caught our attention as a yearling bull at Agribition where he was the stoutest, easiest fleshing bull that packed as much natural muscle into a moderate frame as we’d seen in some time. After securing the only semen sold that year we sampled him on a wide variety of cows and heifers including flushing both black and reds. The results have been monumental. He calves great on anything, they grow rapidly and filter to the top of both the bull and heifer pens. Females exhibit similar make and look to the Natural Law cattle but are possibly a little softer made. The Decision influence will be heavily used in our herd for years to come. They are the right kind.

FLUSHMATE OF LOT 19
Resolution is a flushmate to Wilbar Executive Order, our high selling black bull last year for $20,000 to Everblack Angus, AB. He exhibits a lot of similarities to his brother. Super long bodied, big topped, thick quartered, perfect footed and extremely hairy. When you analyse not only the structure of this bull but the maternal background as well, he is definitely breeder quality. His Elite/Premier dam is one of our top donor cows with 2 daughters in our donor pen and another 4 producing in our herd. If you were to ask anyone of us at Wilbar for our top cows, 507B would be on everyone’s list. We calved 3 flushmates to 22J this spring that will likely join their dam in the donor pen.

Here are two flushmates out of Executive Decision. They are big, hairy and rugged. We liked how the Decision bull worked on our blacks so much that we thought we’d give it a try on the reds to incorporate the growth, stoutness and maternal punch he offers. The sisters to these flushmates are outstanding. The donor dam is currently getting flushed again to our new Quarterback bull. She is from the same cow family as our Crackerjack herd sire that highlighted our sale a few years back. The birth weights on these two bulls are a little misleading as they are both out of recipient dams that can give a little birth weight. We would expect these bulls to be safe on larger heifers or cows. Both are Red Carriers.

This bull has a different twist to his pedigree. He was an attempt of mating two black/red carriers in hopes of making a red one. Obviously, we failed on the red part but were successful in creating a stout made, very capacious stud of a bull. If you like moderate framed, low maintenance cattle, then this is your bull. He is a grandson of what we think is the best son of the famous Natural Law. Throw in our Brndina and Scaara cow families and you’ve got a stacked pedigree. This bull tested HOMO Black (no red gene) so you will get all black calves out of him.

We went back in time a bit with this ET bull. He is sired by the Benfield Substance bull who is the grandsire of the now popular Sitz Stellar bull in the ABS stud. They offer a powerful look with loads of body and shape. The foot quality on the Substance progeny have always been top notch. 15J’s dam, 476S was one of our very best back in her day. She produced a bull called Wilbar Eastwood 200X that sold to Geoff Anderson as our high seller that year. Eastwood is still regarded as one of our favorite female producing bulls to ever be used in our program.

More importantly his actual data might even be better than what shows up on paper. Light birth wt. and above average performance there after. And on the cow side, the Princesses rank at the top – there’s not a lot of them as they seem to produce more bulls than heifers, but they are tanky, good footed and sound uddered. We score this multi-purpose bull quite high.

Here is an elite calving ease bull with all the data and pedigree to back it up. After coming into the world at a moderate 83 lbs he hasn’t looked back turning on the jets and performing with the power bulls of the pen. His dam has produced well with every mating thrown at her. Her first calf sold Clevelands Farm, SK and another through the Brooking Invitational Sale to Connor Douglas, AB.
It is again a pleasure to be working with the Willms family at Wilbar Cattle Co. The Wilbar brand is very well known in the purebred and commercial sectors as they present a solid set of Angus bulls and genetics every year. The sale bulls on offered are slowly developed on a high protein, forage-based diet balanced to maximize the bull's genetic potential and promote lean muscle growth. Rumen health must stay a priority throughout every stage of the bull's development. The Wilbar cowherd utilizes an organic mineral package throughout the
MATERNAL SISTER OF LOT 27
year, which is essential to the health and longevity of the sale bulls on offer and the reproduction of the cowherd. The nutrition and development of the bulls and the entire cowherd are continually being monitored to meet environmental and season conditions to compliment the animals' overall health. If you have any questions about the nutrition or sale bulls, please feel free to contact me. Best of luck to the Wilbar crew on sale day!

It seems as of late, the Red Angus breed has been in search of an alternative pedigree, something fresh or new. At Wilbar we are always trying to be just a little different from the mainstream. Well, we’d like to introduce you to Red Wilbar Infusion 814J. This bull is outcross top to bottom. He is sired by one of the stoutest bulls in the land, Duff Black Ink. After touring the Duff herd and witnessing how powerful and big ribbed the sisters to Black Ink were, we knew we had to try him. Flip to the bottom side of the pedigree and you’ll find our very productive Brndina cow family which includes two powerful donor cows in 617Y and 638S. Throw in black bulls like Barstow Cash and BC Eagle Eye and you’ve got a brand new Outcross pedigree. Infusion 814J is massive in his muscle design, big ribbed, big hipped and moves like he knows he’s a herd bull. He has 2 beautiful sisters in production. We think he’s definitely a breeding piece and look forward to working with our new partners.

From the day we found out this bull had a red hide he’s been under heavy watch to potentially be a great one. Intuition 832J is the result of an IVF flush on without any doubt the most beautiful black/red female we’ve produced. Wilbar Jennifer 456G is a big bodied, wedge shaped female sired by Razor who has left us some gorgeous uddered females. If you look further into her pedigree you’ll find bulls that have left a lasting impact in our black herd like Pleasant Valley Lute, Duff Encore and Boyd New Day. The Jennifer cow family is one of our favorites in our black herd and we look to incorporate it into our red herd through a bull like this. His sire is maybe one of the most exciting made red bulls we’ve seen in some time and compliments an already outcross pedigree. Intuition 832J is very balanced and complete in his look. He has good width in his pin set and over his top, tying it all together with a perfect dark foot. His presence is undeniable and to be honest we could see this guy with a halter on him in the future. We hope you are excited about this bull as we are!

Tenet combines two of our favourite young red cows: his dam, 53F, and his paternal granddam, 211E. 53F is beautifully constructed and is as dark as you can make her. She’s a flushmate to Element (owned with J Bar D Red Angus), Drift (owned by B-Elle Red Angus), Expression (owned by DBM Red Angus), and Helix (a high selling bull in 2020 to Twin Heritage) – that’s a lot of brothers working as herd sires. This flush alone earned Brndina 638S her spot as a high income cow, nevermind Double Take (owned by B-Elle Red Angus) & Over The Top (owned by Moon Red Angus)! Tenet’s sire, Inspiration, is earning a reputation for siring phenotype, performance and hair. Add his extremely high quality dam, Helga 211E to the equation and you can count on maternal strength too. He has the quality backed by generations of our very best red cattle. If you are looking for a dark red, sound, long bodied option to raise top replacements or high performing sons, 849J will work on your heifers or cows.

Another Inspiration son that offers performance and attractive look. He’s about as dark as you could make one. His performance data speaks for itself, 108 WW and 116 YW ranking him in the top 2& of the breed for these traits. The dam is one of our top producing Jack daughters who pours her heart and soul into every calf she has, all while breeding back early. Flushmates to 63F have highlighted past bull sales to Auvergne Wise Pasture SK, Mark and Bobbie Dean, SK and Edge Ranch, AB. The granddam 94Z is a CAA Premier/Elite dam and a maternal sister to 872J by Crackerjack is one of our favorite 2 yr olds.

You’ll hear us refer to long bodied cattle in lots of footnotes, its something we strive for. Length is the easiest way to add pay weight to your calves, sometimes it adds some birth weight but it’s a trade off we are willing to take because they still come unassisted. This bull is long as a well rope, super correct and attractive in his structure and one of the highlight cow bulls in the offering. The Inspiration calves are blood red in color with excellent hair coats. 861J had a big weaning weight indexing 110.

A long, smooth made bull. He’s got the build through his shoulder and front end that will excel in the calving ease department. Inspired also brings the style of his sire. His dam is a beautiful uddered Brndina cow and maternal sister to our Element herdsire. This cow family populates a large portion of our cow herd and for good reason, they flat work and survive the test of time.

We really like how these Coming In Hot cattle have done in our herd. Two flushmates to 825J calved this spring including Kylie’s very successful show heifer, 653H, and will definitely carry on their dam’s legacy. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser at the point of sale. Wilbar Cattle Co. reserves the right to collect semen on any bull for in-herd use only, at the seller’s expense and buyer’s convenience. Scrotal circumference, ultrasound data and current weights will be available sale day. All bulls will be semen tested and fully guaranteed. Bulls may remain at Wilbar Cattle Co. until May 1, 2022. Bulls will be delivered to your yard or central points in Western Canada. Wilbar Cattle will also provide assistance with trucking to Eastern Canada and the U.S. All heifers will be palpated for breeding soundness. Please make arrangements to pick up heifers before April 1, 2022.
