FUNDAMENTALS DIGITAL MEDIA VISUALIZATION & PRESENTATION

CERULEAN CERULEAN

WITH THE USE OF 3DsMAX

//YEAR 2 “introduces the use of computer as a 3D design tool and help visualize effectively on presenting ideas and concepts in digital mode.”

CERULEAN IS A DORMITORY, WHICH CATERS TO FOREIGN STUDENTS WHO ARE STUDYING IN TEMSEK POLYTECHNIC (TP). IT’S A DORM WHERE IT CAN HELP STUDENTS TO FEEL RELAXED ATER A LONG EXHAUSTING DAY IN SCHOOL.

THE SIMPLE GEOMETRIC SHAPES OF CERULEAN SUCH AS SQUARES AND CIRCLES MAKE CERULEAN MINIMALISTIC AND SIMPLISTIC AT THE SAME TIME. THE COLOUR SCHEME THAT WAS USED IN CERULEAN IS MOSTLY ACHROMATIC WITH A TINT OF TUQUOISE. CERULEAN’S COLOUR IS MAJORITY WHITE BECAUSE IT CREATES AN ILLUSION OF A WIDER SPACE ON THE INSIDE.

HENCE, EVEN THOUGH THE SPACE IS SMALL, IT WILL FEEL LIKE THE SPACE IS WIDE. THE TINT OF TURQUOISE REATES AS A CONTRAST WITHIN THE ACHROMATIC COLOURS AND CREATING A CALMING EFFECT.

THE EXTERIOR OF CERULEAN IS MADE UP OF BRICKS GIVING IT A STRONG FAÇADE WHEREAS THE FURNITURE IS MADE OF WOOD, WHITE DIFFERENT HEUS. WOOD GIVES OFF A SENSE OF TRANQUILITY AND CALMNESS, HENCE CONTRAST TO THE STURDY BRICK FORM.

FORM EXPLORATION //YEAR 1 “this subject focuses on the sculpting of the building form. it addresses issues pertaining to spatial concepts, resolution of geometry and form-function. it helps the development of spatial design vocabulary amongst students.”

// PROCESS MODEL

DURING THE PROCESS, I DECIDED TO EXPLORE MORE ON THE MEDIUM OF MATERIALS THAT I WAS USING AND THE SUITABLE COLOUR AND LIGHTING FOR MY MODEL.

// FINAL MODEL AS FOR THR FINAL MODEL, I STILL PLAYED WITH THE DIFFERENT MEDIUM OF MATERIALS BUT STICKING TO ONLY ONR HUE ON MATERIAL- WHITE. DUE TO THE TALL AND ANGLED ELEMENTS, IT CREATES A SENSE WHEREBY WHEN A HUMAN IS STANDING IN THE FORM, S/HE WILL FEEL INTIMIDATED. THEREFORE, THAT’S WHY I CHOSE BLACK, WHITE, DARK BLUE AND A RATHER DIRTY GREEN FOR MY FINAL COLOR SCHEME.

MODEL MAKING YEAR 2

CONSTRUCTION & CONSTRUCTION & DETAILING DETAILING

“explains building construction elements, through comparing the structural and non-structural function in order to provide a better understanding of the constructional framework of building and the parameters within which interior space can be altered and manipulated.”

// FINAL MODEL

‘I’ BEAMS SUPPORTING THE FLOORS.

THRUSTS SUPPORTING THE FLOORS IF THE ‘I’ BEAMS ARE NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO SUPPORT THE UPPER FLOOR.

STAIRS IT’S DESIGNED SO THAT IT WOULD BE EASIER FOR PEOPLE FROM THE FIRST FLOOR TO GO STRAIGHT TO THE THIRD FLOOR WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE SECOND FLOOR.

@ GEYLANG BAHRU INDUSTRIAL ESTATE BLOCK 81, #01-04

FLUSH FLUSH

PROJECT //YEAR 2 “introduces concept development as a seamless process of design from the inception of a design idea to the resolution of design process, focuses on the physical developmental evidences of design process.”

MY CLIENT IS AN AMERICAN BUSINESSMAN, WHOSE EXPERTISE IS IN FOOD & BEVERAGES, WANTS TO INTRODUCE HIS FAMILY’S ICECREAM BUSINESS TO THE LOCAL SINGAPOREANS TOGETHER WITH HIS PARENTS. BEING IN THE MIDDLE OF ALL THE INDUSTRIAL ESTATES AT GEYLANG BAHRU, IT TENDS TO GET RATHER HUMID IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY. TAKING THE HUMIDITY OF THE AREA INTO CONSIDERATION, IT WILL CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR MY CLIENT TO SETUP AN ICE-CREAM PARLOR BUSINESS IN THAT UNIT.

MY CLIENT WANTS THE CONCEPT OF THE ICE-CREAM PARLOR ITSELF TO BE SEEMED AS THOUGH IT IS VISUALLY AND PHYSICALLY CONNECTED FROM THE OUTSIDE TO THE INSIDE OF THE UNIT. DUE TO THE STENCH FROM THE KALLANG RIVER, IT WILL AFFECT THE CUSTOMERS AND HENCE AFFECTING THE BUSINESS OF THE PARLOR. IN ORDER FOR THE STENCH FROM THE KALLANG RIVER TO NOT OVERPOWER THE SCENT OF THE ICE CREAMS, IS TO ALLOW MINIMAL AMOUNT OF OPENINGS ON THE GROUND FLOOR. AT THE SAME TIME, IN ORDER TO SHOW THE VISUAL CONNECTION BETWEEN THE INTERIOR OF THE PARLOR AND THE EXTERIOR, THERE WILL BE FRAMELESS GLASS PANELS PLACED ON THE FRONT FAÇADE.

NOT ONLY THAT, AT THE BAR TABLE, THERE WILL ALSO BE WORKERS WHO WILL BE COOKING THE WAFFLES FOR THE CUSTOMERS AND A FEW CUSTOMERS ARE ABLE TO SIT IN FRONT OF THE WORKER TO OBSERVE HIM/HER AT WORK. NOT ONLY IT SHOW THE PHYSICAL CONNECTION BETWEEN THE WORKERS AND CUSTOMERS, BUT ALSO, BY COOKING THE WAFFLES OUTSIDE INSTEAD OF IN THE KITCHEN, IT WILL OVERPOWER THE STENCH FROM THE KALLANG RIVER.

AS FOR THE RESIDENTIAL AREA, I DESIGNED IT ON A MEZZANINE LEVEL SO THAT THERE WILL BE DOUBLE VOLUME AT THE FRONT OF PARLOR, WHEREBY MY CLIENT AND HIS PARENTS WILL BE ABLE TO SEE THE OUTSIDE AND ALSO THE ENTRANCE OF THE PARLOR FROM THEIR BEDROOMS’ WINDOWS. THIS WILL ALSO CREATE THE PHYSICAL AND VISUAL CONNECTION BETWEEN THE MEZZANINE AND THE GROUND LEVEL.
