ORGANIC CITY The forming of urban context is based on the existing territory, relatively not changing, and human activities, changing all the time. Due to the non-stop changing of human activities, the urban context keeps been built-demolishrebuild, in which negotiation happens. Like the organic tissue, growth-perishgrowth-perish rebirth. In the initial forming of a city, people gathering by their habitual behavior, which is collective ideas. It grows like an organic tissue. However, in the development of urbanism, it was replaced by one idea from a certain designer. They always looks so perfect but lakes tolerance and changeability, like a machine. So, it happens all the time a grid system or an omit system is broken in somewhere and form another context, in which the city get release and breath. Therefore, I would argue that an ideal urban design should be coordinating but still keeps flexibility for the users to adapt for themselves.

In the past, the urban forming were driven by politics and economy, like Rome and Paris. Nowadays, it is driven most by economy, like New York and Barcelona. In terms of economy, I think the presentation of the practical urban layout can be derived from shopping field fields. s. A well function shopping field must contain coordinating and flexibility at once, which is exact an ideal city should have. Moreover, a shopping field in certain area directly represents the local habitual behavior.

In order to attend this goal, I will use aggregation which is from Peter Trummer's studio as the driving technique to form the buildings. In this technique, each room is seen as a unit for aggregating. Besides, I will combine the transformation which is from Hernan's studio to do the accommodating and articulation.

In summary, I'm going to develop a new urban fabric like an organic tissue, followed by a certain rule but still keeps tolerance and changeability. It is an urban context keeps growing and any particular field could be modified to fit the activities.

Thesis Proposal _Ta Yu Method of Inquiry -Urban Fabric: The site context is in the connecting area of two grid systems in different dimension. The investigation of shopping fields will be the initial layout to deal with the negotiation of these two grids and comes up with a new urban fabric. -Architecture Morphosis: In terms of the form of the building, I’m trying to combine the aggregation from Peter Trummer and the transformation from Hernan Diaz Alonzo. The aggregation contains urban rules but lake of articulation in terms of architecture. In the other hand, the transformation has fluent space and articulation but not developed in the urban rule. So, the task is to do the aggregation in the urban rules and extend it to the transformation.
