Perfect Outdoor Living Outdoor living spaces span a wide range of complexities. A new area can be as simple as a clever hardscape design featuring a cozy fireplace or firepit. But when you truly want to create a seamless transition from the comfort of your living room to the beauty of our subtropical climate, it requires careful construction planning, lifestyle considerations and smart design. Croom Construction’s recent renovation of a John’s Island home is a perfect example of bringing indoor comforts outside. “We did so much more than add a new porch. We actually increased the size of our client’s living room,” said Charles Croom, Owner/ Vice President. The beautiful vaulted ceiling added dramatic height while a large gas fireplace and natural stone flooring created a sophisticated, yet casual, outdoor living room. Just steps away are the new pool and spa with stunning landscaping and outdoor lighting.
BEFORE. Croom Construction transformed a dated pool deck into a beautiful outdoor living room with large covered porch and a new pool and spa.
The new covered porch is a natural extension of the living room with vaulted ceiling, fireplace, and stone floor.
Protecting valuable furnishings in an outdoor room can be a challenge. So Croom Construction installed attractive and concealed roll-down screens, which enable the homeowners to enjoy their outdoor living room almost any time of day. And new, easy-to-use, roll-down storm shutters not only create a storm barrier, they provide the security to utilize quality furniture without the need to move cushions, electronics or furniture indoors during inclement weather.
All the comforts of home, room for family and friends, protection against the elements, and seamless transitions from the kitchen, living room and pool is the picture of ideal outdoor living. For a personal consultation, contact David Lyons at 772.562.7474.
smartmove #33 To avoid rot and moisture intrusion, stained wood doors exposed to direct sunlight should ideally be re-varnished every 12 months. It prolongs the door’s finish. Waiting until the stain fades increases restoration costs. For a personal consultation, contact JC Choquet, at Precision Painting & Waterproofing at 772.567.1221.
smartmove #40 Roofs should be inspected regularly, especially in Florida. Leaks can develop and repairs can be expensive. Early detection is the key to minimize cost and damage. It’s also essential that only professionals inspect your roof. Inexperience can cause additional damage and broken roof tiles. Refinishing with Precision Thanks to Precision Painting & Waterproofing (PPW), the John’s Island Beach Club recently underwent a fresh restoration. During the three-month project with an 8-person crew, Precision re-varnished wood doors, repainted the stucco and trellises, and refinished all of the aluminum work, including louver paneling and rails. The Beach Club remained open throughout the process. All waterfront property is prone to fast deterioration of paint and stain, especially its windows and doors. Varnish on wood doors provides UV protection, but as the doors are exposed to direct sunlight, the UV protection naturally breaks down. Once that starts, the wood is introduced to moisture and potential wood rot. “John’s Island Beach Club refinished beautifully, and we are especially pleased with the stain work,” said JC Choquet, PPW General Manager.
