real life
Ask David Croom and he’ll tell you, “Once a Croom client, always a Croom client, and friend.” Bob and Sandy Barrett couldn’t agree more. Croom is building a new home for the Barretts in John’s Island. Sandy was impressed with how seamlessly we spearheaded the planning stage and worked so easily with their architect. Sandy and Bob are really enjoying the homebuilding process. “You spend an awful lot of time meeting with your builder. You really get to know each other. Charles and David have a way of taking the burden out of decisionmaking. I’ve learned to trust their advice implicitly.” Sandy summed it up, “Croom is simply the best. No, they are the very best.”

Season Openers
Perhaps you’ve just returned from your northern home and are looking forward to “the season” in Vero Beach. If you’re not using Whitehall Professional Property Management to carry out routine preventive maintenance and open your home for the season, chances are you have a few weeks of work ahead of you to get your home in tip-top shape. Whitehall customers have learned that retaining us to take care of everything gives them peace of mind when they are not in residence and saves them time when they return.
“It’s always a pleasure coming back to Vero Beach. The staff at Whitehall makes our life so much easier by having our home 100% ready for our return. All we have to do is turn on the lights!” Jim and Ann Gallagher Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club
Good planning
You can’t stop a hurricane, but you can be ready for it. Batten down the hatches, as the saying goes! This is especially important on a job site where building materials are often stacked outdoors and could become flying missiles. We don’t leave anything to chance. We have an established protocol for handling high winds and heavy rain, whether hurricane force or not. We have a duty to our clients to protect valuable building materials, guard the job site from damage, and secure the structure no matter the stage of construction. Unlike some contractors, residential and commercial, who often have to scramble to find warehousing at the last moment, we have a permanent warehouse. Hurricanes are a fact of life in Florida, but we never take them for granted. We are always ready to make the impact to our clients as minimal as possible.
smartmove #25
smartmove #12 Most people think that exterior paint is only for looks. Paint is, in fact, your home’s “first line of defense” against the weather. When paint starts to wear and flake, trim joints open and stucco cracks occur giving water a chance to intrude. Rot and decay won’t be far behind. In Florida, most homes require painting every 4 to 6 years. Protecting your home from the elements is a smartmove.
Roof leaks can start out very minor, not manifesting for months, sometime even years. Often, by the time they’re noticed, significant damage in the form of rot and mold has already occurred, triggering expensive repairs. To prevent this, the under side of the roof should be periodically inspected from the attic. Detecting minor problems before they become major repairs is a smartmove.
Staff news Amanda Roan, of Whitehall Professional Property Management, completed an annual 3-day Parent Teacher Association (PTA) leadership workshop this summer in preparation for her new position this school year as Treasurer for the County Council PTA and Treasurer for Storm Grove Middle School PTSA, where her daughter Rebecca is a 7th grader. Amanda served as VP of the PTSA at Storm Grove Middle last year, and believes her 11 years as Accounting / Office Manager for Whitehall was excellent preparation for her new responsibilities as Treasurer. Charles Croom completed the 2010 Rohto® Ironman® 70.3 competition May 16 at Walt Disney Resort in Orlando. This triathlon includes 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run. With temperatures hitting 90 degrees that day, Charles quipped, “I was the happiest man alive to see that finish line!”
Dodgers vs. Codgers game hits one out of the park for SRA On April 24th, at Historic Dodgertown, the Little League Dodgers, ages 8 to 11, took on local businessmen all in the name of charity. The Codgers suffered a lot of heckling, but gave it their all. In the end, the Dodgers bested them 15 to 14. Sponsored by Croom Construction, proceeds from the game benefited Senior Resource Association programs including Meals on Wheels, Adult Day Care, and In-home Services and more.
