Major Study Reports New Technology and Innovation Key for HVAC Savings
Chain Store Age Give Overview to Energy Saving Technologies According to a recent article in Chain Store Age, innovation in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning will be driven by cost savings from more efficient energy use and pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The article is based on an extensive research study conducted by Pike Research (www.pikeresearch.com.) The article by staff writers for Chain Store Age reports the nearly 100 page study, "Energy Efficient HVAC Systems," shows that energy addition, regulatory shifts, including more stringent codes and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) will enable emergent HVAC technologies, which in some cases have been available for many years, to achieve market traction at last. "Advanced HVAC innovations can achieve energy cost savings of well over 50% by assembling commercially available components in unconventional arrangements," Pike Research reported. "The next generation of energy efficiency will come through incremental improvements to existing HVAC technologies," said research analyst Eric Bloom in an interview for the article. "But there is a great deal of untapped potential for innovation and the adoption of new technologies, such as geothermal heat pumps, that will transform the way buildings function."

What Does the Future Hold for 2012?
A Variety of Forecasts Reviewed and Compiled for Smart HVAC The various economic pundits are compiling their best forecasts for what the U.S. economy and retail sectors will experience in 2012. According to information received in the Kiplinger Letter, the U.S. economy will grow about 2% in 2012. That is approximately the same as in 2011, and according to the report it is enough to avoid another
recession but not enough to make much of a dent in the overall unemployment rate for the nation. Faster growth in the second half of 2011 has apparently rescued the United States from a double-dip recession, and shows that there was still pent-up consumer demand and enough business confidence to overcome the summer of stock market slump, European financial crisis and the debt limit debate in Washington, D.C. According to the report, "After growing at an annual rate of only 0.9% for the first half of the year, gross domestic product grew at a 2.5% rate in July, August and September. Business investment surged at a 16% rate and consumer spending rose at a 2.4% annual rate - not great, but well above what would point to recession." Read Forecast Here
