GEOMETRIC INSPIRATION BOARD
G E O I N S P I R A T I O N My final major collection entitled ‘Transform’, aims to be inspired by sculptural and adaptable textiles informed by origami, architecture and innovative material technologies. In this project I have drawn visual inspiration from architectural forms as I am interested in the way light moves through linear structures, and the intersection of structures forming buildings and spaces. Exploring possibilities of transformation, I have researched ideas surrounding collapsibility and shape adapting structures. This project will build a dynamic sportswear collection to showcase engineered ‘trompe l’oeil’ prints and digital embroideries manipulated to enhance the body.

Key references included Pauline van Dongen’s Skynfeel long jump suit (fig 9) made using polyisoprene material to hug the figure creating an aerodynamic design. Flaps at the arms are designed to open during the jump to create lift flying further through the air. This design feature inspired my own use of laser cutting to increase air circulation during movement for cyclists.
This three layer laser cut design comprises of a blue stretchy scuba, a reflective material to increase road visibility and echo the triangular shapes engineered to muscle groups on the back. The third material is a black power-mesh for added comfort and breathability.
Developing my ventilated design to extend down the length of the athletes back aided by graphic projections onto the mannequin to envision scale and placement.
Ventilation features:
!Orange neoprene laser cut flaps are designed to open during movement giving the wearer more air circulation to the arm to cool them down.
!Laser cut reverse applique design on arm panels made using a blue power-mesh underneath increases breathability.
Here I have resolved my laser cut designs mimicking the muscle shapes on the back of the body for increased air circulation through creating ventilation and enhancing the look of certain muscle groups across the shoulders.

SPEEDO GRAPHIC DESIGN FOR S/S 21 ➢ During my time working at Speedo, I was briefed with creating graphics that were edgy, psychedelic in nature and conveyed the need for fast dynamic movement. Aimed at the young adult to teen market I started playing around with Graphics that could portray this concept in playful ways. Distorting logo placement under water and lines on a page creating ‘glitch’ effects, I was able to transform the look and feel of typography.
SPEEDO GRAPHIC DESIGN FOR S/S 21 ➢Here I have introduced new elements of colour into my artwork to add a sense of energy and pop against the darker backgrounds. These colours can then be introduced into swimwear or sportswear digital prints.

SPEEDO GRAPHIC DESIGN FOR S/S 21 ➢During my internship with Speedo, with the design team at Pentland Brands in Nottingham, specifically working on the Summer 2021 Speedo ranges. I was thrilled to be supported in taking a creative, physical design approach; using paints, marbling, photography through water and projection to create an exciting archive of material of which to bring forward into print designs. This made the process much more personal, using my creative license, I was able to input my passion for handson design to develop the graphics whilst responding to the range boards produced and approved by project managers.

Inspired by the Adidas ‘4DFuturecraft’ trainer. I have designed a trainer with a 3D printed shock absorbent sole that mimics how the body and foot react to force and accounts for the massive changes in foot size, making it perfect for runners.

Inspired by heat dependent structures; the fabric will begin to grow, expand and shape around the neck and head when the temperatures drops to protect the wearer from the cold.
