Looking for a business opportunity in Alicante (Spain)- January 2014 14th January 2014

___________ Conference at the Town Hall (Alicante)_________ At the conference we attended in the Town Hall of Alicante…  We had a great and interesting experience as we were explained how to become an entrepreneur and take advantages of the opportunities in Alicante.

Two real ideas for company creation were presented: a manufacturing company of handmade leather covers for I Phone and a small brewery.

They motivated us…  Because they gave us some hope which is really important when you have to start your own company. It is also very important that you have some passion and good contacts.  As they made us feel important as we were sitting in the Town Hall on high chairs.  However, they had problems answering some of the questions of the students.

We would contribute with some of our own ideas…  Suggesting them to expand to other countries and improve their English to work in the international tourism market.  Focusing more in the importance of money when you start a business to finance the idea.  Investing money in promoting and marketing for their new businesses.

___________ Visit to INVATUR (Benidorm) _________ At INVATUR they are working for… 



Offering to associations and companies a platform where they can develop an idea related to tourism. This way, they manage to give entrepreneurs in tourist industry the chance to start their own company.

Improving tourism in Alicante so it will be more attractive for people from all over the world.

Some improvement proposals would be… 

Invest some money in marketing and promotion of INVATUR, so it becomes well known around Spain and Europe.

We think it to be an interesting institution for boosting tourism business because…  

They try to develop tourism all over the year, not only in high season.

They are very careful with the way they treat customers and they make a very good first impression.

___________ Visit to Benidorm _________ As a tourism destination Benidorm can offer…  

The beaches are really beautiful and there are many nice restaurants.

There are many things to see and do other than the beaches.

Some positive changes could be…  

Trying to bring more young people in winter.

Improving public transport.

We would boost these entrepreneur ideas in Benidorm:   

Create new attractive offers and interesting prices for families and young people.

Sell ice creams and create horse races near the beach.

Open a new beach club on the beach.

___________ Visit to Castell de Guadalest _________ About the landscape around Guadalest Castell…  

The landscape and the mountains around are very beautiful and impressive and different from other countries in Europe.

There was a breathtaking blue lake.

We would start an entrepreneur activity in Guadalest village…    

We would offer kayak and hiking and guided tours in the mountains.

More restaurants and coffee places would be a good idea.

Sailing or surfing in the lake or hiking tours in the mountains would be also interesting alternatives.

We would set up a little new shop where tourists could buy souvenirs.

Looking for a business opportunity in Alicante (Spain)- January 2014 In order to promote an economic activity we would change.  

Keep the museum open all the year, even in low season.

Improve the public transport possibilities to get there.

___________ Visit to Central Market (Alicante) _________ What makes this market special is…   

Fresh food and good quality. Big choice. The building is very attractive and well situated.

It represents very well the old-fashion cooking Spanish style.

The flower market outside is also fantastic.

As entrepreneurs, we would promote at this market…   

A restaurant or maybe a wine place or bar inside.

Smoothy stands.

A special restaurant where you can taste the products before you buy them.

Some threats and opportunities for this market are…  

Threats: conventional supermarkets around and fighting potential hygienically problems as all food is fresh.

Opportunities: very big choice, all fresh products, everybody can buy there.

Improve their marketing to tourists, explaining what can be interesting for them.

International publicity.

If we were Alicante’s citizens, we would you take advantage of this event by…   

Setting up a small stand to sell drinks, sweets or food.

Promoting the race and produce merchandising articles.

Taking part in the festival the days before the start of the race.

Looking for a business opportunity in Alicante (Spain)- January 2014 In our opinion, as Headquearts of the VOC, Alicante gets…   

Much attractiveness for tourists and people from other countries.

A lot of visitors come there due to the race and spend much money on hotels and food, therefore Alicante gets money.

In the negative side. Alicante also gets costs because they have to create the areas for people and parking and they have to clean all later on.

___________ Visit to CDT (Development center for tourism) (Alicante) _________ What they do:  

They help unemployed people to get an education for working in tourism: restaurants, bars, hotels. They have very good equipment and financial support from the EU. It is a very well organized place and everybody working there was very friendly.

They have some special facilities such as… 

They have kitchens and chemical laboratories and the establishment is used as a restaurant and as career training.

As entrepreneurs, we could get profit from this institution by… 

You can employ the people from there because they have a good education.

Some interesting changes or improvements would be… 

People studying there should get a better training in foreign languages such as English for international potential customers.
