inter in Montana means more than donning snow tires and hitting the slopes. When the snow flies Montanan’s are instantly reminded of familial obligation, the time we spend giving to others and the worry that our holiday meal may not end up quite the way we intended. With all that we have to do between putting food on the table and making sure that everyone is happy, this can be one of the most stressful times of year. Maybe that’s why we turn to the most comforting foods to get us through the short days and long nights. You know what we mean: mashed potatoes and gravy, hot macaroni and cheese, a hearty chili and warm cornbread combination. How about some desert? Maybe some fresh pecan pie strikes your comfort bone? Or possibly you can hear the faint cry of gingerbread men calling you name? One thing is for sure, we all have at least one - or two or three – foods that always help bring us back down to earth when our seasonal stress level rises. Whatever your winter food vice may be - pasty or pasta, desert or delicatessen - the Winter Restaurant Guide will be sure to point you toward your next comfort food fix. We will have you lining up for a second helping as we outline Western Montana’s best places to pick up the provisions necessary to maintain your snow – covered winter spirit.

Hogan’s HoocH

circle square Vodka

Hogan’s Hooch is a blend of barley, red wheat, and rye. Producing Hogan’s Hooch takes about a week, from grain to glass, and each step of production occurs right on site at our Distillery in downtown Missoula. At 90 proof you will experience a buttery nose, lightly coated pallet and smooth warm finish.

Distilled from Potatoes, Circle Square Vodka delights with subtle fruity noise, light pallet and smooth finish. Enjoy one of the country’s few Craft Potato vodkas. Family lore suggests that our paternal grandfather coined the term “Circle Square” in reference to the northern part of Missoula’s downtown that surrounded the Northern Pacific Rail Depot.

t’s a timeless and frustrating struggle. You’re out with a friend or your significant other and simply have no clue which restaurant could sufficiently satiate your palette. And to top it all off, the more time it takes to decide, the hungrier and more delirious you become, making the whole dilemma more and more painful. How could you not know what you want!? Before – when you weren’t hungry at all – you probably could have named at least a hundred things you might like to eat. But the moment your brain receives that warning message from your stomach about your inevitable demise if you don’t eat soon, you lose every train of thought that has ever been in station. It probably doesn’t help that the person standing next to you is facing the same evil. Together you are a hot mess of hunger and indecision. Where will you possibly turn? Luckily, we’ve got your back! No longer stand-by in bewilderment as the pangs of hunger dominate your decision making processes. The Winter Restaurant Guide is chock-full of 2015’s Missoula Choice award winning eateries that will be sure to demystify and satisfy you nutritional needs. So go ahead and grab a burrito at El Diablo, a sandwich at Dan’s Soup and San, or enjoy your very own stack at Paul’s Pancake Parlor. The options abound and are conveniently listed for your choosing.
