From the President Dearest Wedding Couples, We are thrilled to usher in a new wedding season, and welcome you to Western Montana! Let us make your dreams reality by not only providing inspiration, but also helping you find the right vendors for the job. With the challenges 2020 brought, and the ever changing pressures of a double workload in 2021, our vendors have not just survived the turmoil, but even thrived! Our vendor members have continually proven to be some of the most respected, hard-working professionals in this market. How do I know? I personally have worked in the wedding events and service industries for more than 15 years. I have been proud to see our members continually make space for the newcomers and veterans alike. Everyone is welcome here, and the purpose of our Association is merely to learn and grow with one another, and to promote each other when we can. Despite everything the last two years have thrown at us as individual businesses, the Association has also still perservered, because our members are tough and dedicated. We’ve created a fresh new website for you to browse. We also hosted a brand new event, called “Engaged,” where a real couple married publicly, and you, our newly engaged friends, were welcome to attend it all and see our vendors while they work! Our well-respected Montana Made Wedding Fair happens in the fall, and then of course, there’s this magazine! It’s a lot for our group of member volunteers to pull off, I’m so proud of our efforts. I hope you, our wedding couples, enjoy the fruits of our labor and find the perfect vendors to make your wedding dreams come true! Fresh dreams and vision for the future is what continues to push our member’s creative boundaries and make the Western Montana Wedding Association the best in the West.

What to know about tying the knot on public lands
M
ontanans love their public lands -- there’s no doubt about it. So why not celebrate your love on the land we love so much? With over a third of the state being in public hands, there’s plenty of room to roam, explore and celebrate all that lies under that big sky that seems to stretch on forever. You are my greatest adventure CARRIE ANN PHOTOGRAPHY
The possibilities for a great wedding are endless, but there are a few things you should know before planning your big day at one of the beautiful places we all share. First off, you should always call the office of the state agency that monitors the state or national park or land you want to host your wedding upon. Employees will be able to provide details on permits required as well as rules and regulations. Glacier National Park, for example, currently allows a maximum of 30-person weddings due to the COVID-19 pandemic and anticipates that rule will stay in effect throughout the 2022 wedding season. Some locations only allow 15 people and group sizes include the wedding couple, guests, officiants, and photographers.
18 | Western Montana Wedding 2022
Those looking to wed inside the Glacier’s borders need to apply for a wedding permit as well as special vehicle permits. There is a limited number of locations where Glacier allows weddings to be held. Peak season in Glacier is mid-May through October, so plan a winter or spring wedding if you’d like to ditch the crowds. Also keep in mind: having a permit does not close that area off to other visitors. A national park wedding is not for the faint of heart. Weather can interfere with plans, and there’s no guarantee the park can reschedule or change your permit if the weather gets dicey. Brides, grooms, and wedding attendees should be flexible and all come prepared for whatever mother nature decides to throw their way. In Montana state parks, all event-planners must fill out a special use permit application
See https://fwp.mt.gov/stateparks/fees-and-general-information for more information. As is the rule with most aspects of wedding planning, apply early to get your dream location!
Fire season in Montana is still stunning DAVID CLUMPNER PHOTOGRAPHY
If all of these rules sound overwhelming and having amenities at your disposal sounds more your style, there are many wedding venues that take advantage of Montana’s magnificent outdoors without the headache. The Izaak Walton Inn located an equal distance between the east and west entrances of Glacier National Park offers a unique venue in Essex, Montana. The historic property is accessible by rail on Amtrak’s Empire Builder train, and guest accommodations include cabins, a lodge and repurposed luxury-rail cars. The Izaak Walton is also the perfect venue for a winter wedding with maintained world-class Nordic cross country skiing trails. The Glacier Park Lodge is just minutes from Two Medicine Valley in Glacier National Park. Built in 1913, the historic lodge is elegant and rustic in measure. The architecture features towering Douglas Fir timbers. The gardens are also spectacular, offering stunning views of Dancing Lady Mountain from the hotel grounds. They offer several outdoor ceremony locations as well as an outdoor pavilion along with 162 guest rooms. The Great Northern Resort is just a mile from the West entrance of Glacier National Park. Your guests can enjoy a complete Montana vacation experience. From staying in a cozy cabin to spending time on the river white water rafting or enjoying a fly-fishing adventure, your wedding will be a Montana dream your guests will never forget.
These views never get old DAVID CLUMPNER PHOTOGRAPHY
Get lost CARRIE ANN PHOTOGRAPHY
Any one of these Glacier venues comes complete with genuine Montana hospitality and will give your guests a true Montana adventure. “If a couple decides to choose a venue like Glacier Park Weddings at the Great Northern, your limits will be much greater than being inside the park. Our venue can hold up to 160 people comfortably,” explained Cathi Beers. “Visiting the park quick and easy for yourself and your guests. If you want to get those epic wedding photos, you can always book your photographer for a day before or day after shoot throughout the park. Or, you can take off during cocktail hour and get some shots on the shores of Lake McDonald.”
19 | WesternMontanaWedding.com
WILDERNESS WEDDINGS If you are trying to plan a wedding in the Glacier area, Beers suggests reserving all of the crucial vendors as soon as you can. “Our valley is very small and with the influx of visitors the past few years, a lot of venues, coordinators and caterers have been booked solid. The sooner you make a decision on a location, the better. The smaller details like color schemes, decorations and dresses can be
made later. The venue, the rentals (tables/chairs/heaters/bars) and the coordinators are the core of a wedding and should be secured first” Beers said “One ‘must do’ for people traveling to Glacier National Park is to pack a picnic, take a drive on the North Fork Road to the Polebridge Mercantile and purchase one of their legendary huckleberry bear claws. After you have visited the Merc, head
into the park for a short drive to Bowman Lake and enjoy your picnic on the lakeshore.” With so many rivers, lakes, forests, meadows, waterfalls and other beautiful places to choose from, you’re bound to find an unforgettable place to tie the knot, no matter what. Most of us live in Montana for the incredible access to outdoor spaces, and it’s no wonder so many of our weddings reflect that.

DISH ON DESSERTS
The Dish on Desserts All you need to know about cake and so much more French Macarons have grown in popularity JOHANNA B DOCUMENTARIES
F
or so long, wedding desserts have been all about cakes. Sweet and versatile, cake is a classic, excellent choice for wedding day fare. Cakes that are delectable in both taste and presentation, making for both a picture-perfect and perfect tasting treat. Miniature huckleberry pies CARRIE ANN PHOTOGRAPHY
Along with wedding catering in general, cakes have evolved over the years. Gone are the days of the white wedding cake with a Barbie like bride and groom topper. Cakes have evolved and are nothing short of a work of art in both design and taste. The design is often as unique as the couples themselves with custom painting, marble tones, ombre, naked, geode and geometric. There are even half and half cakes to portray both the bride and the groom’s taste, but keeping it simple is also a showstopper. For those who aren’t big fans of cake or those who just want to provide a greater variety of desserts, there are countless other options. Many couples offer dessert tables, where guests can choose from an array of sweet treats. Cake pops, cupcakes or mini cakes are a
28 | Western Montana Wedding 2022
great option for couples who don’t want to forgo the tradition altogether. These are great additions to any dessert display and are a great way to add a lot of different flavors. Designer cookies in an array of shapes, sizes and flavors can be customized to incorporate the wedding color palette, date, monogram or even the bride and groom’s pets. They can even be incorporated into the event as place cards and favors. Pie also pairs perfectly with weddings and offering a variety is always a crowd pleaser. Less likely dessert alternatives can also include things like fresh fruit and cheese grazing boards or ice cream sundae bars. As common as cake alternatives have become, most people still want to have a cake for the newlyweds to cut. Some traditions are just worth keeping!

What makes for a uniquely Montana wedding

beautiful day, she said.
“I feel like in Montana, you can just be free to be who you are a little more than in other places,” she said. “So, you can really embrace who you are in the moment.”
Cattle Springs owner Jamie Sievers couldn’t agree more. There’s a ton of talent in Montana’s wedding industry, making it easy for couples to choose local. No matter where one goes in Montana, there’s sure to be amazing scenery. And you can’t beat a Montana sunset.
It’s also about using the time, talent and resources of vendors in your community. At Flying Horse MT, she said couples usually use locally sourced decorations and Montana-made items that are unique to the area. A Montana wedding is about highlighting the breathtaking scenery surrounding us, located in an area easily accessible by car or plane. Her venue features 360-degree views of the Bitterroots and the Sapphires, which always makes for a 36 | Western Montana Wedding 2022
“I feel like it makes you feel like you’re connected to nature,” she said.
“Just having the sunset anywhere you are is amazing,” she said. “My venue is set up to take advantage it.” Emily Madieros, owner of Velvet Bride, is one of several incredible wedding dress vendors in Western Montana who caters to each bride’s unique style. Shopping at Velvet Bride is available by appointment only, so brides
receive personalized, one-onone service. There are so many benefits to shopping locally, she said. All of Velvet Bride’s dresses are sourced from the United States, so they didn’t experience the same shipping delays many other shops dealt with earlier in the pandemic. Madieros has close, personal connections with many dress designers, so if a bride has a question about a dress, she can call or text that designer and get a quick answer. She’s also on top of all the current trends and can help you find the perfect Montana wedding dress. Montanans tend to go for a rustic, bohemian look over a big, extravagant gown. Being a small business owner, Madieros said she’s passionate about every person who walks through her shop’s door, not just profit margins.
“Of course, being in Montana and loving our Montana brides, my biggest goal is that everybody that comes in here is leaving with something they love,” she said. Noteworthy Paper & Press, a Missoula business offering custom wedding invitations and gifts, also aims to provide the same personalized experience to every client. The shop offers full access to a team of designers with years of experience who work to keep things relevant and on trend, custom sales manager Raven Streissguth said. For Montana-based weddings, she said couples usually pick designs that play on the state’s beautiful scenery, with many choosing mountain or outdoors-based invitations and save-the-dates. When it all comes down to it, the outdoors, nature and freespiritedness all represent a Montana wedding. “We get a lot of outdoorsy couples where it feels uniquely them to illustrate themselves through those designs,” she said. Another great way to incorporate a local flair into your wedding is by including Montana themed gifts for your wedding party or guests. Kristen Sackett from the Missoula Downtown Partnership offers advice for couples wanting to send guests home with a piece of Montana.
“There are so many great local businesses in Western Montana that have unique items for weddings that give an authentic Montana vibe. Montana is a unique place all in its own, so steer away from traditional favors or gifts you can get at any wedding and find items unique to the area. Huckleberries are a must have when in Montana during the summer months, and there are many local businesses who create huckleberry items such as jams, chocolate, and popcorn. The scenery is amazing so you could also find a local photographer to order prints from or an artist that offers Montana landscapes.” While you are busy with last minute wedding preparations make sure your guests are enjoying Montana to the fullest. In the months leading up to your wedding send a guide to the area, a calendar of local events, and a list of your favorite local breweries and restaurants. You can take it one step further and make suggestions of your favorite dishes or beers. This thoughtful touch will be much appreciated.

Planned adventures are a great way for family and friends to get to know each other in the days leading up to your wedding. “Montana has outdoor recreation and hiking trails around every corner, said Sackett. “Be sure to look up hiking trails and river recreation recommendations for group hikes or outings. We’ll get you and your guests there and home safely.
Using local vendors, giving Montana themed favors and planning fun ways for your guests to explore Big Sky County will be added touches that make your wedding memorable and uniquely Montana.

REHEARSAL DINNERS
Rehearsal Dinners A more intimate affair
Rehearsals lead the way to a smooth wedding day 5 CROW PHOTO
P
ractice makes perfect. That’s why rehearsals are an important part of getting ready for your big day. Rehearsals give everyone the chance to get down the aisle and make sure they’re on their A game for the real wedding. The wedding officiant, the couple, and the wedding party will all get the chance to make sure they’re in the right places and doing the right things, and it helps iron out all the potential kinks in the ceremony. After the rehearsal, dinner is typically served, and the festivities begin. The dinner serves as a kickoff event and gives those closest to the marrying couple the chance to socialize and get to know each other in a more intimate setting. It is an opportunity to honor the bride and groom one final time
46 | Western Montana Wedding 2022
before they take their vows. It also gives the couple a chance to thank their families and the wedding party for their support and for being a part of the wedding. Rehearsal dinners can be more formal or less formal, but they shouldn’t include everybody, and they shouldn’t be anywhere near as elaborate as the wedding, explains PlumTree Events owner and wedding planner Erika Sherek. Depending on the type of wedding celebration you are having, this is going to set the tone for your rehearsal dinner. If you are having a very formal wedding ceremony and celebration, your rehearsal dinner is more likely to be on the more formal side itself. Having a plated meal at a restaurant or venue is the norm. But if you are having a more relaxed
wedding celebration where your goal is to have a big party, your rehearsal dinner is going to be a bit more laid back. In some cases, we opt for the term “Welcome Party” over rehearsal dinner. Especially if you are having a destination wedding where all your guests are coming in from out of town. You want your out-of-town guests to feel like part of the celebration from the start. Traditionally, the rehearsal dinner was put on by the groom’s family and that’s where the mother and the father of the groom would do speeches. These days there aren’t any set rules about who hosts the rehearsal. It could be the couple, a member of the wedding party or another family member. Invitations are sent out shortly after the wedding invitations to give guests time to make travel
plans. The guest list usually consists of the wedding party, immediate family and anyone else taking part in the rehearsal. All of these people should also be allowed a +1. It’s not uncommon to invite any out-of-town guests who have traveled in for the wedding. This is a great way to thank them for making the trip and an opportunity to spend time with people who you may not have much time to visit with at the reception. Not surprisingly, couples are starting to make these traditions more their own. For those that feel like they have to follow a more traditional format with their wedding, the rehearsal dinner gives them the opportunity to break with tradition. These dinners are meant to be a small, intimate affair mostly for immediate family and only the closest friends. Sherek said she occasionally works with couples whose families have never met before, and the rehearsal gives them an opportunity to meet and mingle for the first time. The rehearsal dinner is also a great opportunity for the couple to give out gifts to parents and the wedding party. The event offers an environment where gifts and thank-yous can be exchanged more intimately. Including the bulk of wedding speeches at the rehearsal dinner can cut down on the speeches at the reception, getting everyone out on the dance floor that much sooner. Sherek said Montana rehearsals tend to be more on the casual side, with families all meeting at a brewery or getting together to play board games. One of the most pressing decisions to be made for the rehearsal is: What will be on the menu? While some couples opt for a more formal event, others plan more of a backyard BBQ kind of event. When planning the menu, couples should take into consideration what they are serving at the

“The first thing I ask when someone calls to inquire about rehearsal dinner catering is what is your wedding menu? If you are serving prime rib, you should opt for something completely different,” she explained.
The rehearsal dinner is a great opportunity for a Montana-style BBQ, a live-action taco bar or an Italian-themed menu. Serving the meal family style encourages guests to interact and gives the feel of a large holiday gathering.”
“Wedding menus in general have evolved to include more variety, and rehearsal dinners are no exception. It’s your opportunity to share what you love with your family and friends. Wedding food doesn’t have to be boring,” Glenna said.
As with your wedding menu, adding Montana food is always a good idea. Offerings such as bison, huckleberries, Flathead cherries and Dixon melons. Include beer and wine from your favorite local brewery or winery.
Your out-of-town guests will appreciate getting a taste of Montana, and it will serve as a great conversation starter.
Sherek sums it up with, “It’s kind of a kickoff to the wedding weekend. We’re going to party until brunch on Sunday.”

Elopements & micro weddings on the rise
G
ood things come in small packages, and that includes weddings. As the pandemic has encouraged social distancing and smaller gatherings, micro weddings and elopements have become increasingly popular. These small, intimate weddings feature fewer guests in favor of a more upscaled, personal experience. Erika Sherek, owner of PlumTree Events, specializes in micro weddings. She says the smaller option is a great way for couples to invest more in the experience of the wedding itself. “Even before COVID, people were tending to have fewer guests and spending more money on the experience, instead of inviting everybody in the world,” she said. Years ago, large weddings helped couples acquire home goods and things they would 56 | Western Montana Wedding 2022
need for their new life together, but many couples simply aren’t interested in that anymore or don’t have the need for a lot of new stuff. Large weddings are great for some and have their merits, but Sherek pointed out that the couple likely won’t get to talk to many of the guests in attendance. Having a micro wedding allows the couple to savor the experience and enjoy their guests more. So many brides and grooms worry about every little detail and miss out on the fun of the day, she said. Micro weddings scale down the list of things to manage so the couple and guests can relax a little. Even when wedding sizes decrease, wedding budgets are generally remaining the same. That allows couples to splurge on décor, entertainment, food
or whatever else is important to them. In Sherek’s experience, micro weddings also encourage the older generations of guests who might have left earlier to stay longer. There’s more interaction occurring, and everyone feels more connected to what’s happening in the present moment. “It seems to me that, when I’ve had smaller weddings, those people hang around longer because they feel more comfortable -- they don’t feel like they’re getting lost in the crowds,” she said. For those who want an even smaller, more intimate, perhaps more spur-of-the-moment wedding experience, elopement is always an option. While typically thought of as something couples do without the permission of their parents, elopement has become a flexible term and can include
parents and typically a very small group of immediate family and friends. Over the last several years Montana has become a destination for many couples wishing to elope from other parts of the country or even outside of the United States. The breathtaking scenery and Wild West persona put the Big Sky State at the top of the list of destinations.
those they really couldn’t imagine getting married without,” said Glenna. They spend their money spoiling those most important to them with a more intimate experience.” Sometimes, less is more, and a micro wedding or elopement could be the perfect way to celebrate saying your “I dos.”
“I would say close to half of the weddings that we cater are for couples traveling to Montana for their wedding,” explained Mindy Glenna from A Moveable Feast catering. “Some have never visited the area and always wanted to. Their marriage gives them the perfect opportunity to.” “Rather than budgeting for hundreds of guests, couples pare down their list and only include

DANCE IT OUT
Dance it Out Fun new trends for first dances Where the world moves slow J. WILLIS PHOTOGRAPHY
O
nce the ceremony is over and the happy couple have said their “I dos,” it’s time to let loose and party! First dances set the tone for the evening, featuring fun, loud, exuberant displays as well as intimate moments between the couple, the couple and their parents, and everything in between. Several cultures have different customs and traditions for this first display, and it looks a little different at each wedding. As with most aspects of weddings, couples are starting to move away from the traditional first dances and branch out into something that feels more unique to them. Search “first dances at weddings” and you’ll get a whole slew of viral results featuring brides performing Beyoncé’s “Run the World (Girls)”

with backup dancers as a surprise for their husbands or a father and daughter breaking out of an intimate, emotional dance to a sad song to perform a dance routine to “Can’t Touch this.” One couple even recreated the end scene of Dirty Dancing where Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey danced to “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.” Ryan Bradshaw, owner of the elite wedding DJ service Bradshaw Media, said, “I Suprising first dances are fun for all DAVID CLUMPNER PHOTOGRAPHY
would say the best first dance I ever saw was to The Final Countdown by Europe. The couple had me introduce them into the wedding like a boxing announcer. Once introduced we played a song of surprise chosen by each of them. The groom chose a song the bride didn’t know about and vice versa. The groom’s song was first. His was a nice romantic song called “Tougher Than the Rest,” by Bruce Springsteen.
People got sentimental. She followed it with “I Wish” by Skee-Lo and dedicated it to the groom. She pretty much roasted him. It was all in good fun with lots of inside jokes. That wedding stands out for sure” While some may opt for a more casual first dance, others like to rehearse and plan. A choreographed first dance can bring an element of surprise or excitement to the reception that elevates the mood of everyone in the room. Kicking off the reception with a choreographed first dance really raises the energy wedding of the whole wedding. Mckenna and Ryan Quick were recently married and decided
to make their first dance extra special. “When you start planning your dream wedding, there are so many factors to be accounted for and numerous lists made to make sure everything is perfect,” explained Mckenna Quick. “For us, our first dance was one of our top ‘to-dos’ on the many lists I had made.” Mckenna had previous dance experience and her now-husband claimed to have to left feet. He knew how important the first dance was to McKenna and suggested that they make it a priority.
“We started looking for dance instructors, and came across a great studio and instructor who was incredibly patient with both of us and we began our ballroom journey.” Over the course of 10 lessons, they learned ballroom fundamentals, the choreography for their first dance and received helpful feedback. “The process itself was incredibly rewarding, knowing we had put in time and energy and now had a fantastic end product that showcased our efforts, as well as a great experience to share with each other amidst all of the wedding planning chaos,” she said.

TIPS & TRICKS
Tips and Tricks How to not panic in the weeks leading up to the big day So much love in one room 5 CROW PHOTO
T
he weeks and days leading up to your wedding can be stressful, but they don’t have to be! We talked to Western Montana planners and vendors about how to do your homework ahead of time to ensure your day goes smoothly. This is what they suggest:
1. Get a planner! And make sure it is one you trust, emphasizes Erika Sherek, owner of PlumTree Events. This is crucial to a successful wedding. Planners take a lot of the stress off your plate, allowing you to sit back, relax and enjoy your day. Wedding planners are well-connected to vendors and others throughout the wedding industry. They can help ensure all your needs are met, and that you’re getting the best that’s out there. If you can’t afford a planner, designate a friend as a planner to relieve some stress.
72 | Western Montana Wedding 2022
2. Book vendors and venues far in advance As with 2021, vendors’ schedules are expected to fill up quickly in 2022. This is why it’s important to get on their schedules right away. Raven Streissguth with Noteworthy said that while all timelines are operating differently amid the pandemic, it’s generally a good idea to send out savethe-date notices six months in advance of your wedding, with formal invitations coming eight to twelve weeks prior to the event. She recommends giving a vendor such as Noteworthy two to four months advance notice to get invites designed and in the mail. Jamie Sievers, owner of Cattle Springs, said venues are typically a year out in booking, so take care of that first thing.
That timeline could be much more or much less depending on where you want to host. If you’re looking to have your wedding on public lands, there could be permits and other paperwork that need to be filled out prior, so couples should manage their time accordingly.
3.
Go with the flow
Erica Sherek from PlumTree Events recommends thinking of a wedding itinerary as a guide rather than a strict timeline. It’s important to go with the flow, she said. People don’t want to feel like they’re standing around waiting for something, but they also don’t want to feel rushed. If people are enjoying a certain event or component of the wedding and it’s cutting into the next scheduled activity, she recommends letting it happen. Everything will work out, and you’ll get to it when you get to it.
4. Set a realistic budget
If you’re not laughing, you’re doing it wrong 5 CROW PHOTO
One of the first things you should do as a couple is sit down and talk about the budget. It may not be fun, but it’s a necessity. This should be something your fiance and you both totally agree upon..... Planners often see couples frustrated with one another because one wants a venue out of their price range, or they don’t agree on what to invest in. Decide which aspects of the wedding are most important to you, whether it be the photography, the food, etc. and plan accordingly. Weddings are expensive, but there are ways to reduce costs, if you budget and plan early.

5.
Wait on the dress
While it may be tempting to go out and buy a dress right away, planners typically recommend waiting until you’ve decided on a venue and date before buying a dress. Season, weather, temperature, and location theme will all factor into what you want your dress and accessories to look like. For a picture-perfect day, wait until these factors have been accounted for before saying yes to the dress.
6. Break rules Couples often get wrapped up in what they’re supposed to do and which traditions they should follow. While each couple is unique and some may prefer to follow traditions to a T, there’s plenty of room to get creative and make your celebration unique.
This is going to be a memorable day DAVID CLUMPNER PHOTOGRAPHY
74 | Western Montana Wedding 2022
Guests will appreciate all the personal touches you put into the wedding, and what better way to celebrate the love you share than by making the event all your own.
7. Lighten your list A common mistake for couples is to invite way, way too many people out of a sense of obligation. “Narrowing down the guest list is one of the most stressful parts of planning a wedding,” explains Jessyka Minudri, owner of Leather and Ivory wedding planning. “It’s a little more complicated than simply making a list of everyone you’d like to celebrate with. At the end of the day, if you have 50 guests or 200 guests, the most important thing is you and your fiancé, joining together as one. Have those around you be the ones that have supported your relationship leading up to your special day and will continue to do so in your marriage for years to come.”
While some may want a huge guest list and big wedding, it may be beneficial for others to narrow down their list. Inviting fewer guests allows you to spend your budget on the things that you really want to make your day special. Do yourself a favor and enforce sticking to boundaries and rules pertaining to plus ones, RSVPs, and guest counts. You’ll be glad you did.
8. Get your skin wedding ready Your wedding day is almost here, and you want to have your skin glowing. Crystal Glueckert, practice manager, esthetician and makeup artist from Bespoke Beauty, has these tips to get your skin looking and feeling great: • Get a good skin routine and be consistent for the months leading to your wedding date.
This will help prevent breakouts and irritation on your big day. •
If you are outside, make sure to use highquality sunscreen and re-apply regularly. Sun exposure can cause more than a sunburn, it increases the likelihood of cold sores and hyperpigmentation. Spray tans are a great option to give you a sun-kissed glow.
•
Don’t pick! If a blemish pops up, consider contacting a skin professional to help you treat it before you take matters into your own hands.
•
Have a makeup trial to avoid surprises. This way your artists knows your expectations and preferences and you can have a seamless application on your wedding day.

VENUE ROUND-UP
Setting the Scene
On the wings of love CARRIE ANN PHOTOGRAPHY
A Western Montana venue round-up
T
he proposal was everything that you’ve dreamed of. You found the perfect dress. You’re expecting a fairytale wedding. Now all you need is the ideal wedding venue. Having a perfect wedding relies largely on the venue. It’s where you will treat your friends and relatives to the most memorable night of your life. Luckily you are planning your wedding in Montana, so there are plenty of great venues to choose from. Here are some tips to help in your search for the best wedding venue: • Decide what type of wedding you and your partner are dreaming of. Is it a wedding on the shores of Flathead Lake? A Glacier mountaintop wedding? Do you desire views of the Mission Mountains or a rustic barn? • Do you prefer a full-service venue where nearly everything is available on-site? 76 | Western Montana Wedding 2022
Or do you want to plan every little perfect detail yourself? When you find the place that checks all of your boxes you will know it. You will be able to picture yourself walking down the aisle. On the flip-side you will know automatically if a certain venue is not right for your wedding. Afterall, it’s the place where you will exchange vows with the person that you love, so it has to feel right. Your wedding is a very important event, so take your time when choosing the venue. You should start looking for a venue a year or more before your wedding date. Wedding season in Montana starts in late May and can run into October and dates get booked quickly. The size of the venue is a very important consideration. If the venue is too large, the wedding will lose its intimacy.
If it’s too small, it will be cramped and uncomfortable. Of course, the size of your venue depends on the number of your guests. So before looking for a venue, you should at least have a rough idea of how many guests you will be inviting. Have this conversation early and have a solid idea before you start your venue search. Don’t forget the dance floor. This is where mistakes are made. If you are dealing with 300 guests, then a 10 by 10 dance floor won’t do. The more guests you have, the larger the dance floor will need to be. If you have a lot of guests traveling for your wedding, be sure to consider lodging and transportation. One of the complaints people have when attending a wedding is the lack of parking spaces. Be sure that the wedding venue you choose has enough parking
for all of your guests. Parking may be a minor consideration; it becomes a major problem when there isn’t enough.
If you opt for a venue that has minimal parking, there are local vendors that offer great transportation options. This is also an
