INTRODUCTION TO BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION The building and construction industry continues to be a strong growth area in Queensland across both residential and commercial sectors. As Australia’s third largest industry, building and construction employs over one million workers who produce the buildings and infrastructure which are essential for other industries to operate. Skilled workers are employed across both the public and private sectors in engineering constructions, non-residential building and residential building. Industry sectors include construction, demolition, renovation, maintenance or repair of building and infrastructure. A greater need for advanced technical skills in building and construction has resulted in high demand for skilled workers. TAFE Queensland offers a number of hands-on courses in building and construction. We also provide pathways for current construction industry workers to take the next step in developing their own career. We deliver the courses needed to gain advanced building and construction skills as well as the requirements needed to apply for a QBCC licenses for low rise, medium rise and open buildings.

BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION TRAINING FACILITIES Our $80 million industry-standard building and construction facilities allows us to train across a wide range of different trade areas. Our training spaces replicate both commercial and residential settings, providing our students and apprentices a realworld training environment. Our Acacia Ridge campus spans an impressive 10,000 plus square metres and is complemented by eight modern classrooms as well as a restricted height scaffolding training space.


PARTNERSHIPS AND CAPABILITIES TAFE Queensland partners with relevant industry bodies to ensure we continue to deliver training that is aligned with industry trends and identified growth areas. As the building and construction industry continues to evolve, businesses are now requiring more diversified workforces. To adapt to the changing needs of industry TAFE Queensland is partnering with businesses to provide more holistic qualifications compared to traditional specialised trade qualifications. We work with businesses every step of the way from work experience, prevocational and apprenticeship programs, post-trade training, specialised skill sets and product training. This course meets the technical requirements for a Builder Low or Medium Rise licence in Queensland. This course teaches building and construction theory and practices related to low and medium-rise buildings. Students will extend their knowledge to building surveying, job supervision and safety management.

Gain the skills and confidence to manage complex costing and planning tasks for all types and levels of building and construction projects. Learn how to prepare cost estimates, audit project costs, and administer contracts.

Our industry-expert teachers will help students develop project management skills in contract administration, project planning and costing, and resource and financial management.

Gain skills in planning project timetables and material ordering schedules, and learn how to adapt project schedules to delays or unforeseen circumstances. GET EXISTING SKILLS RECOGNISED WITH RPL Students and apprentices who have already completed prior study or have significant work experience can apply for credit transfers or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). FLEXIBLE TRAINING OPTIONS We offer on-campus block training, online, workplace, drop in days, day release, mobile van and mixed-mode training options. We will work to find a training outcome to suit each business’s needs.

On-Campus block training Training is delivered in study blocks of one to six weeks at one of our state-of- the-art training facilities. Workplace Training is conducted and assessed by our workplace training officers in their own workplace. Drop in days Students and apprentices can drop in to a TAFE facility at any time to train with a teacher without needing to schedule it in advance.

Mixed mode Combine on-campus learning with online elements, some blocks, some day release, or anything in between.

FUNDING OPTIONS FOR APPRENTICES AND TRAINEES Free apprenticeships for under 21 Queenslanders, up to the age of 21, may be eligible to undertake high priority apprenticeship and traineeship qualifications for free.
