the second consecutive year, festival of chemistry ‘Everything is Chemistry, Chemistry is Life’ organized by the ACS Iraq Chapter, was held on 26 November 2018 at the University of Baghdad- College of science for pure science/ Ibn- Al Haitham. The event of this year was the biggest since more than 300 attendee, 160 student, representing 12 talented high schools from Baghdad and around, participated in this event and > 25 staff member and 30 students from the University of Baghdad volunteered to organize and mentoring the event. The festival was a hub that provided fun and opportunity for students to experience chemistry beyond the classroom alongside with scientists in laboratory environment. The main goal of the festival was to promote interest of young students in chemistry and encourage cooperation between the ACS Iraq chapter and educational bodies (universities and schools) in Iraq. All attendees were welcomed to the festival by the Dean of Ibn- Al Haitham college, Prof. Hassan Ahmed Hassan, Prof. Taghreed A-Noor, the chair of ACS Iraq Chapter (festival organiser). The festival included a range of activities started with an opening ceremony and followed by an informative lecture about the ACS, which was given by professor. Dr. Taghreed A-Noor. Following, three talks were given by the head of Chemistry department Prof. Mohammed Al-Jubori and senior staff members covering the key branches of chemistry. After refreshments and coffee break, Students’ knowledge in chemistry and laboratory experiments were verified. The student from each school were divided into two groups: one to
demonstrate their laboratory skills via performing some magic of chemistry experiments or those experiments of their design while the second group performed a theoretical examination as a team. The competitions were organized and mentored by Dr .Emad Yosif , Dr. Omar S. Abdullah, and Samir Adday, the lecturers at Chemistry department. All teams exhibited great skills. They put in tremendous hard work to showcase their knowledge in chemistry. At the end of the day and during the closing ceremony, the winners were announced and trophies, medals, and honourable mentions were awarded. AlHariri high school for talented girls was the first winner amongst the other schools. Finally, on behalf of the American Chemical Society, Professor Al-Noor thanked the participated schools’ students and teachers, and the University of Baghdad for agreeing to host the festival and for providing an excellent venue with facilities that show case chemistry. Specifically, Dr. Omar S. Abdullah, Samir Adday, and Dr. Ammar Al-Zaidi for their excellent organisation and attention to detail of the whole event. The organizers consistently receive a range of complementary comments from schools who participated, saying how much their teams enjoyed the experience. للسنة الثانية على التوالي اقيم على رحاب كلية التربية للعلوم الصرفة -ابن الهيثم -جامعة بغداد مهرجان الكيمياء السنوي تحت عنوان "كل شيء هو الكيمياء ,الكيمياء هي الحياة" وبتعاون ودعم من الجمعية األميركية للكيمياء فصل العراق American chemical society- Iraq Chapterوذلك يوم االثنين الموافق 11تشرين الثاني . 2018حضر في هذا المهرجان اكثر من 300مشارك من مختلف التوجهات المعرفية والعلمية وعلى راسهم نقابة الكيميائيين العراقيين ممثلة بالسيد نقيب الكيميائيين الدكتور مهدي السهالوي وعدد من أساتذة الكيمياء من الجامعات العراقية .كما وشارك في المهرجان اكثر من 160طالب من المرحلة اإلعدادية لمدراس الموهوبين والمتميزين في بغداد وعدد من طلبة كلية التربية للعلوم الصرفة -ابن الهيثم. كان الهدف من إق امة المهرجان هو اتاحة الفرصة للطلبة للتعرف وممارسة الكيمياء خارج حدود الصفوف الدراسية جنبا الى جنب مع الكوادر التدريسية داخل البيئة الجامعية .كذلك لتنمية الوعي لدى طلبة المدارس حول علم الكيمياء واهميته على صعيد الدراسة االكاديمية وفي الحياة اليومية .كما يهدف البرنامج الى تشجيع افاق التعاون بين الجمعية األميركية للكيمياء والمؤسسات التعليمية (جامعات ومدارس) في العراق. استهل حفل االفتتاح للمهرجان بتالوة عطرة من القران الكريم تالها النشيد الوطني العراقي وبعدها تم الترحيب بالحاضرين من قبل السيد عميد كلية التربية ابن الهيثم األستاذ المساعد الدكتور حسن احمد حسن واالستاذ الدكتور تغريد النور -رئيسة الجمعية األميركية للكيمياء -فصل العراق .وكما تضمن المهرجان العديد من الفعاليات ابتدائا محاضرة عامة عن الكيمياء وكذلك نبذة عن الجمعية األميركية للكيمياء القتها األستاذ الدكتور تغريد النور تالها العديد من الكلمات للسادة رئيس قسم الكيمياء وبعض أعضاء الهيئة التدريسية حيث تم فيها تغطية معظم فروع الكيمياء وتطبيقاتها في حياتنا اليومية. وضمن برنامج المهرجان تم تقسيم الطلبة المشاركين الى مجموعتين احداهما للمشاركة في أولمبياد الكيمياء (امتحان تحريري) واألخرى ألداء بعض التجارب التي تم التحضير لها مسبقا وفي استعراض عام لمهارات الكيمياء في مختبرات وساحات الكلية .تم التحضير واالشراف على التجارب واالمتحانات من قبل المدرس الدكتور عمر صبيح عبدهللا والمدرس سمير عداي سلمان من قسم الكيمياء كلية التربية ابن الهيثم .جميع المدارس المشاركة بذلت جهود كبيرة إلظهار مهارات طلبتها في أداء التجارب العملية وكذلك في االمتحان الورقي .بعد ذلك تم توزيع الكؤوس الميداليات والشهادات التقديرية على المدارس الفائزة في المنافسات حيث كانت المرتبة األولى من حصة اعدادية الحريري للمتميزات.
في الختام وبالنيابة عن الجمعية األميركية للكيمياء قامت األستاذ الدكتور تغريد النور بشكر الحاضرين من كوادر هيئات تدريسية وطلبة على مشاركتهم في المهرجان وكذلك كلية التربية للعلوم الصرفة -ابن الهيثم على حسن استضافتهم للفعاليات .كما اعرب المشاركون عن سعادتهم واشادتهم بالمهرجان ومدى استمتاع واستفادة الطلبة من هكذا فعاليات والتي تسهم ف تنمية المهارات العلمية لطلبة المدراس اإلعدادية سائلين عن إمكانية تكرار التجربة في المستقبل.
